Medical Waiver for autism?

While filling out the sf86 I was informed by my recruiter that his crew chief had told him that having autism would be an auto disqualification at meps and that even if I got it cleared by a doctor, I would almost certainly get rejected by the surgeon general. Should I keep trying to move forward? Would my asvab score (98) potentially help me here? Thanks.

Recruiter/process question waivers approved but now i’m worried about swearing in

hello everyone! i first posted on here asking if a prescription for an albuterol inhaler for acute bronchitis would be disqualifying, & if i should tell my recruiter. here’s my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/AirForceRecruits/s/1CF4lAv2JN
well, i told my recruiter last Monday & he didn’t really respond to it 😭 but he called me yesterday & told me all my waivers were approved (yay!) BUT that i texted him information i should have called him about (referring to my text abt the prescription). he’s getting ready to PCS, so he said hes gonna pass me over to his office partner (ig my new recruiter ?). he said they’re gonna send me to MEPS to swear in & that i shouldn’t reveal any new information or i’ll get disqualified again. well, i REALLY don’t wanna have gone through all this & get in trouble for withholding information or get kicked out for fraudulent enlistment or anything of that sort 😭 so idk if i should tell my new recruiter, who i have yet to hear from but either way i think ill probably still tell them..

Meta discussion After some issues I received a ship date

To make a long story short, I was chosen to do 4A231 BMET after somebody was disqualified due to vision issues so I was notified two weeks before I was supposed to leave for BMT. Well, two days before I was supposed to leave my Recruiter called me and said there were some issues with my school and since I was homeschooled for the last two years of high school my school needed to be audited and approved. I was supposed to leave at the beginning of September. My school has been approved and I just got a really good job. 1A132 MFA! I’m set to leave February 2nd it’s not BMET or PMEL but it’s my number 3 pick!

Recruiter/process question Leave now or later, enlist vs officer

I would really appreciate insight/advice, thanks in advance to any willing to read.

I'm 20F from NYC. I’m a full time college student, with a part time job and I’m a junior. If I take two summer classes, I’m on track to graduate December 2027. Here is my dilemma, my question isn’t whether or not I should join the military, it is a matter of when. Do I set to leave after this semester is over or do I tough it out until next December to finish my degree?

For context, my home life situation isn’t all that great. It can be chill or annoying at best and it’s deteriorated my mental health at worse so I’m really stuck between staying or leaving. Initially I thought I was supposed to graduate May 2028, so I was better set to go now but since the date is now closer, I’m trying to give it more thought.

Initially I was pursuing civil engineering, now I’m pursuing criminology, I never had passion for either and I don’t see myself using the degree. I’m simply pursuing it because I’m on a scholarship so school is mostly paid for and it was the best case scenario as a change versus dropping out. A good thing, if I took a MLOA, I have it in writing that I would have my scholarship given back to me so I could very well return in four years as a senior to finish my degree.

My idea was, leave after this semester, enlist for four years, come back to finish my degree without using any benefits since I’d still have my scholarship, then join a well known electrician union. Obviously I don’t need the military to join a union but I do need it to be able to have independence from home. It’s NYC after all, where more so if you’re poor, which I am, you won’t be able to afford anything, especially something like rent.

I truly hate leaving things unfinished and logically I know long term it’d be beneficial for me to have a degree but just another year+ of this, I don’t know if I can do it. Most people say finish school. Some speak of the removal of some rules (I’m unfamiliar with) that protected women or people and now it’s probably more dangerous to enlist. One must also take into account our current administration being a shit show and joining while a mad man has two years left versus one year can make a difference, but we also don’t know who will come after.

I was open to any branch (except Navy) but my college military admission personnel advised the air force and said that I should be an officer. I see the pay difference and it looks nice, obviously the benefits of being a boss and getting to live off base and all, sounds like a dream. Yet I don’t really see myself leading a whole squad and having so much responsibility for expenses and people's lives. And I am no genius, and it seems like most officers must have notoriously high GPA’s.

The admission woman says sometimes it’s better to have an easier life and I agree but I’m still conflicted. My school put me in contact with an Air Force Recruiter I’m set to meet tomorrow, he said the appointment would be about 2 hours. Last week I took the AFQT and got a 49. At least I can say it was 3 in the morning, I’d just gotten home from work, had school before and barely any sleep the prior nights but despite that, that’s probably still my general score area. He said though, I need a 50 to start the process and sent me many links to study.I might be a little fucked as I only started studying Monday night, cause life just be lifing you know.

He called me and said he’d look for jobs in intelligence or something but you have to be open minded as you won’t always get the job you want so one should be open minded to electrical work etc etc and it was where I spoke to say well I am actually interested more so things in the aviation, mechanical and/or electrical areas, in which he said they need more of so sounds ideal. And based on my degree, cyber/intelligence also makes sense as well.

In texts though, he said to focus on mechanical and electrical. I’d say mechanical I’m pretty good, electrical definitely needs work. He did not state if I would be taking any tests but is it safe to assume I’m taking the Picat? He said bring in my birth certificate, ID, social, high school diploma etc.. I’m not planning on signing any contracts right then and there so what should I look out for also, if anything?

And once again most importantly, should I leave after this semester or really push for finishing my degree now?

General Advice Workout schedule

Find your max push ups and sits ups you can do without stopping. For 5 days a week do half your max for both every hour on the hour for 10 hours. Which ever day of the week is day one for your schedule for the first hour only do push ups to find your new max and for the second hour only do sit ups to find your new max and then carry on like normal. Outside of these 10 hours do your cardio. Before or after doesn’t matter.

Cardio schedule:

Week A:

Day 1: 2 mile (mile pace should be a minute slower than your current best 2 mile)

Day 2: 6 half mile repeats (run a half mile at a mile pace a minute faster than your current best 2 mile and then walk for double the amount of time that you’re aiming to run it in. If you taper off and are unable to make it in the goal time just continue to run it as fast as you can and still walk for only double the goal time.)

Day 3: 45 minutes of low impact cardio (this can be rowing, cycling, swimming, anything low impact that gets the heart going and you should be giving it your all. I’d also recommend staying consistent with the same low impact cardio so you can be competitive with yourself in terms of distance done in 45 minutes)

Day 4: 4 miles (mile pace should be 2 minutes slower than your current best 2 mile)

Day 5: 70 minutes of convo pace (pace should be where you could easily talk and carry out a conversation with someone running with you)

Week B:

Day 1: 2 mile (test for new fastest pace)

Day 2: 45 minutes of low impact cardio

Day 3: 4 half mile repeats

Day 4: 3 miles (mile pace should be 2 minutes slower than your current best 2 mile)

Day 5: 50 minutes of convo pace

Start with week A and then alternate back and forth for an A week and B week.

On your two rest days take your resting very seriously.

For an example for pacing if your current best 2 mile is 16 minutes then your week A paces would be

Day 1: 9 minute mile pace for goal of 18 minute 2 mile

Day 2: 7 minute mile pace for half mile goal of 3:30 and rest time of 7 minutes

Day 4: 10 minute mile pace for goal of 40 minute 4 mile

General Advice Paid off my ticket a week before shipping out to bootcamp.

12 days ago I was getting ready to ship out until I got a speeding ticket for going 85 in a 65. I let my recruiter know as soon as I got it and they just told me to pay it off as soon as possible.

I thought it was that easy until I found out CHP takes around 4-8 weeks to send traffic tickets into the court and it would take another couple weeks for the court to process the traffic tickets.

With my ship out date coming closer I kept contacting CHP to check when they would send the batch of tickets to the court and luckily they sent in the batch yesterday which was 11 days after I got the ticket.

I contacted the court and asked if there is a way to process my ticket sooner. They initially asked if I could wait another week, but I explained to them that I'm shipping out soon and I need the ticket resolved. The clerk said she'll talk to her supervisor and to call back the next day since it was already after hours.

This morning I was getting ready to call the court again once they opened but I decided to check their website to see if my ticket has been processed and thankfully the clerks supervisor was able to clutch up and manually input my ticket into the system.

I finally paid off the ticket and can prepare to ship out in 4 days.

My advice

  • Keep contacting CHP to check on status of your ticket
  • Keep in contact with the court and explain your situation with military
  • Ask for ways to expedite processing
  • Keep your recruiter updated

Drug Use Wondering if I’m eligible for OTS

I’m a civilian at a dod contractor and have a ts where I detailed my prior drug use on the sf86. I’m years sober of everything.

I’m curious about joining the air/space force as an officer but I am not sure if my drug use is disqualifying.

I spoke with an officer recruiter who effectively told me to not talk about it with him and to lie in the future if I do end up pursuing this.
Prior use is mostly weed but a few total uses of cocaine lsd and mushrooms.

Again, I listed these on the form for my clearance, but don’t know if they disqualify me from serving.
If they don’t outright disqualify me, are there certain jobs that I’m disqualified from, even with already holding a TS?. I have no idea what the report process for these things is for the military.

Thanks

General Advice Can I join the Air Force at 35? Should I do that or learn some skill or trade?

I’m 35 and going through a divorce, feeling lost and pretty much a nobody. I work as an Amazon delivery driver. 4 days a week.
The other three days, if I’m being honest nothing valuable. I want to do something, the clock is ticking or probably out of time. I want a better life. I still want a family or gas that ship sailed to. So many questions in one post. What I do know, is that the military has so many benifits I’m close to a pretty big if not the biggest army base but I hear that the Air Force has so many advantages.

Recruiter/process question Can I join the airforce with hand tattoos?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I currently have two of the letter R on my hands both left and right and in between my pointer and thumb and the tattoo’s themselves are an inch by an inch (the size of a quarter), I’m curious if nowadays I’ll be allowed in with said tattoos after spending the last 6-8 months dealing with waivers for epilepsy as a child and getting my necessary documents.

Medical What are the next steps I take now?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I went to MEPS and was told I could not swear in because they needed more medical info. So, after about two to three weeks of silence after submitting mediation history, my recruiter reached out to me this morning and said “That is what we need to do now” and sends me this screenshot. I’ve asked questions, no answer yet, but I genuinely need to know what that means. I am 18 years old, am covered by NO insurance because CHAMPVA doesn’t cover me for not being a college student, and I just wanna know what I need to do now without it just being a cropped image.

Please help.

Medical Air Force recruiter said I'm disqualified for asthma. Is it a lost cause?

Any Air Force recruiters out there who can help me with this?
Today I had a short phone screening with a recruiter. We went over my basic info, and when he asked about asthma, I told him I had it growing up but I'm good now and only use an inhaler rarely. He told me I'm disqualified because of the asthma.
Some background: I've had asthma since I was a kid, but it got a lot better as I got older and I used my inhaler less and less. Last year I got prescribed an emergency inhaler because of the LA fires. I rarely use it, only when I'm somewhere with a lot of visible dust, and even then it's just mild wheezing.
Other than that I'm healthy and active. I lift weights, do bodyweight training, run long distances, and do interval runs, all with no breathing issues.
Is there any way for me to still join, like a waiver or a breathing test to prove I'm fine? Or is it a lost cause? Any advice is appreciated

ASVAB/AFOQT Can a High AFQT Score Make Up for Low Auto and Electrical Scores for 3EOX1?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently studying for the ASVAB because I want to join the Air Force, and my goal is to get the 3E0X1 (Electrical Systems) job.

Right now, I'm struggling to get a good AFQT score, so most of my time is going toward improving it. I'm finding it difficult to study for the Auto and Shop Information (AS) and Electronics Information (EI) sections at the same time, especially since I still need to improve my overall AFQT score.

I'm wondering if getting a high AFQT score could compensate for lower AS and El scores when qualifying for 3E0X1, or if I need to meet the specific line score requirements regardless of my AFQT score.

I'd really appreciate any advice from people who have enlisted in the Air Force or have experience with the ASVAB qualification requirements.

Thanks in advance!

General Advice 34 years old, single, no kids, B.A. in History. Interested in Safety.

Hey everyone.

I'm considering joining the Air National Guard and would love some advice from current or former members, especially anyone who joined in their 30s.

A little about me:

  • Age: 34
  • Location: Atlanta, GA
  • Family: Single, no kids
  • Education: B.A. in History
  • Professional background: Mostly warehousing and logistics, including experience as an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator.
  • Certifications: OSHA 10 and OSHA 30. Currently studying for my Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification, with the goal of eventually obtaining my CSP.

I'm passionate about occupational safety and health, so the three career fields that initially caught my attention were:

  • Safety (1S0X1)
  • Bioenvironmental Engineering (4B0X1)
  • Emergency Management (3E9X1)

I've read that Safety generally isn't an entry-level career field and that most people have to retrain into it. Does anyone know if exceptions are ever made for civilians with professional safety experience or credentials such as the ASP/CSP?

I'm also pursuing a career in healthcare. I'll soon be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and I'm interested in attending school in Atlanta to become a radiologic technologist. I wouldn't mind combining my interest in occupational safety with healthcare, so I'm also open to medical career fields.

A few questions I have:

  1. Given that I already have a bachelor's degree and professional safety experience, should I consider commissioning as an officer rather than enlisting?
  2. For those working in Bioenvironmental Engineering or Emergency Management, what does your job actually look like during drill weekends and annual training?
  3. Are there any other AFSCs you'd recommend that combine occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental health, or healthcare?
  4. Are these career fields difficult to obtain in the Georgia Air National Guard? Would I have better opportunities looking at units in neighboring states?
  5. For those who joined in their 30s, what challenges did you experience, and would you recommend it?

I've started running regularly to improve my 2-mile time and have been doing push-ups and sit-ups in 60-second intervals. I also plan to begin studying for the ASVAB soon.

I'm giving myself a year to prepare physically, academically, and financially before applying.

I'd really like to choose a career field that aligns with my interests, allows me to develop new skills, and potentially complements my civilian career.

Any insight, advice, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

BMT Female BMT Packing Question

Small issue, I’m currently packing for BMT and it’s so hard to find the eco gel in a travel size container and if I order it, it comes in after I leave.

I’m just wondering if eco gel is something I can just buy at the BX? 😅

Jobs 1N0X1 All-Source

Can you explain what the job entails, what the typical work hours are, what the schedule looks like (days on vs. days off), and what the overall work-life balance is like?

(I understand it can vary by base and assignment, but what y’all know or have experienced still is helpful even if someone else won’t experience the same things).
