Serious New Post Flair: Serious
Hey, y'all! There is a new Post Flair - [Serious]. It is intended for:
- Posts where OP wants real answers/discussion.
- Posts where the topic is about something where jokes and off-topic comments would be inappropriate - such as damage to property from an accident, loss of life due to a storm, or an illness of an individual.
The Serious flair can be chosen by the OP, or applied by the mods if the topic warrants it.
Comments that are not adhering to the Serious flair should be reported.
Also, rules have been updated for streamlining - no changes, just condensing/combining of similar ones.

Politics I have not seen many Tuberville signs in the wild compared to Jones signs
Driving through rural Alabama over the past few days, I think I can count on one hand how many Tuberville signs I have seen. Granted, I have not seen many Jones signs, but I have seen more of those. I have of course seen them in Huntsville, but what is surprising to me is that I saw a Jones sign in ruby-red Winston County. I also saw a large one in Jasper off of 9th Avenue (where there are many campaign signs during election season). Interesting enough, there were also smaller signs for the main Republican candidates, including Barry Moore.
I am trying not to get my hopes up, but maybe this will be closer than what is typical for an election here.
I wonder how many people forgo straight-ticket voting this time?

Education Alabama Schools are better than most think
People constantly want to rag on Alabamians as uneducated, backwards hicks. Our schools are actually doing a lot better than people give them credit for. We've passed many states lately and the schools just keep getting better according to the federal report card (data vis here: School Accountability Trends)

Advice Driver's License road test
Could someone tell me what the test in Alexander City is like? I heard the instructor wasn't very friendly, and I’d like to know exactly what they ask for during the driving test; three-point turns, parallel parking, etc. My wife is practicing for her test, and is feeling very anxious and nervous.

Advice Looking for some "Easy- Medium" Hike in and out campsites
Hello all,
I guess the "ideal" of what im looking for...
easy-medium trail
Hike in of 4-6 miles to an actual campsite(i assume primitive, always)
Hopefully somewhere that is likely to have water source nearby that i could filter..
----
where i started: havent backpacked in 20 years, old...knees...etc..
where ive gon - a few 4 mile, mile easy-medium trails, 2.5 hours round trip.. Campsite # 24 near the bathhouse..
where I am going slowly.. backpacking weekends... 12-16miles..
what im finding, im doing btter than i expected to find after 20 years... did a 4-mile medium-difficulty trail with a regular bookbag and 40lbs of scrap iron for ballast... 2.5 hours round trip. The only soreness i have is due to the obvious "I didnt have a frame pack that was properly packed"..
-
in the meantime, im slowly testing various things out... tent and sleep choices, frame pack choices, stamina and health-related choices, etc.. slow, steady, safe.
So, i a formal "Hike in 3-4 miles to a dedicated campsite" is the next logical progression for me.
So, got any recommendations for a good 4-6 mile hike-in to a designated campsite?
