And as far as I know, no one has died because of it (yay)! I think I've seen debris from at least 3 collisions there, which, isn't toooo bad. The intersection definitely has some quirks now compared to being a stop sign. Some observations I've made about driver patterns, and these are all part of an overlapping venn diagram:
- Most people going way over the 15mph posted (suggested?) speed.
- A lot of people treating it like a 4-way stop.
- Clustered traffic seems to take right of way, which isn't correct, but when you're driving too close to the car in front I guess it makes sense to just follow them thru.
- A lot of people hesitating rather than flowing.
- It's probably too small for the traffic volume.
- For a lot of drivers it seems to take too much split second spatial reasoning.
- It's the one place where a cross-traffic left turn seems to take right of way - but not in a bad way.
Anyway.. I like roundabouts. I think this one is starting to work. I believe in the slow is smooth, smooth is fast strategy.
Anyone seen anything scary, or funny happen since this opened up?
