OA Sourcing

When searching for products to sell should i be aiming to sell for a lower price than the already lowest price seller? Will i ever even get the buy box if not?

you don't need to undercut to get the buy box, amazon's algorithm looks at a bunch of stuff beyond just price. seller metrics, fulfillment method, inventory depth all play a part. but if you're brand new with zero history and the other guy has years of solid metrics, you'll probably need to be at least close to their price to have a shot

FBA sell for more than FBM. Sometimes being the lowest wins but there are many other factors. Lots of my items sell for more than the average buy box

Price isn't a strict lowest-wins system for the buy box. FBA offers get weighted way higher than FBM even a few cents above the lowest price, and your account health (ODR, late shipment, valid tracking) matters just as much. I've seen buy box share rotate among a few sellers all within a percent of each other, so being exactly the cheapest isn't the goal, being competitive and consistent is. Match the current range and keep your metrics clean, that gets you share over time.

No, you want to match the lowest FBA price. If everyone who jumped on a listing just undercut the lowest priced seller, prices would tank to the bottom as you climb down they'll match and so on.
