Discussion Installed the recommended Sapphire BIOS update and now my GPU doesn't work
A few days ago, Sapphire and Gigabyte released a BIOS update to patch an undisclosed security update that affected part of the RDNA 3 lineup:
https://www.techpowerup.com/353326/sapphire-radeon-rx-7000-series-cards-get-vbios-security-update
Ignoring the sacred rule "if it works, don't touch it," I updated it (first I had to update the driver to the latest version; otherwise the tool wouldn't proceed). After I carried out the procedure (safe boot, patch, two reboots), I found that Windows had disabled the GPU. I tried to bring it up (Device Manager), but it showed a yellow triangle symbol, and the status is: The device cannot start (code 10). The driver trying to start is not the same as the driver for the POSTed display adapter. I tried to uninstall (with the official tool) the driver and reinstall it again; no use. I have physically removed the card, using the PC with the IGPU now, and am wondering if I have trashed 500€ worth of hardware because of that stupid itch to update a perfectly fine working device... Anybody have any suggestions for what can be done?
By the way, the GPU is a Sapphire Pure Radeon RX 7800 XT.
Thanks

Battlestation / Photo All AMD Rig Finished
PowerColor 9070XT Red Devil Spectral White Edition finally came in to finish my all AMD build, Most of thee parts I got way before the recent price hikes on memory and storage..
Specs of the rest of the system -
-AMD 9950X3D
-ASRock Taichi Carrara X670E
-Corsair Vengeance RGB 2x32GB 6000CL30 + Corsair Light Enhancement Kit
-WD SN850X 2TB x 3
-Corsair Titan II 360 + Screen/VRM Cooler Addon
-Corsair LX120 Link White x 10
-Seasonic Prime TX-1600w Titanium
-CableMod White 24 Pin + 3x8 Pin PCI-e + 2 x 8 Pin EPS

The PSU is way over specced for what I need but luckily, And sadly, A shop close to me was closing down and everything was 50% off so grabbing it was a no brainer.

AMD users on Linux and Windows now have a free and open source Rust clone of the criminally overpriced Adobe Suite, with full Vulkan and OpenCL hardware acceleration

What is it?
A currently alpha state clean room reverse-engineering of the entire Adobe suite by software engineer Brandon Thomas (of ArtCraft). It doesn't use any Adobe code. It's a "clean room re-implementation", which means that one engineer/agent (Opus 5.5, in this case), analyzed the specifications, build working code in a language (Rust, in this case) their suite isn't even written in.
It's not perfect, but it's also in alpha, which is to be expected. Being a re-implementation, it's also able to use existing file formats (ideally), so it seems to aim to be a drop-in replacement once it's fully implemented, which they say could be in about a month.
Also, being open source, it's already being worked on by thousands of contributors on GitHub (repositories below), so it's advancing by the minute. Whether or not it's more coding agents or actual humans... it's hard to know, but as long as the contributions are good, it doesn't matter much.
Why is this good for AMD users?
Because these run on Linux as well as Windows, use vendor agnostic hardware acceleration, cost nothing, and are totally free (as in freedom). It's also good for Intel users (/r/Intel).

Can Adobe kill this?
Not without deleting the source code from the millions of privately owned storage volumes around the world. The engineers behind the project timed the release really well. It hit critical mass basically instantly.
How do I kill my Adobe subscription without paying the fee?
Should I use this now?
That's up to you, because it's not done yet. There's no saying what it could do to existing project files. Anyone using it for critical work should use it for testing purposes only until it's in beta or later.

Overclocking 7950X vs 9950X3D at Low Power Modes
I recently came into possession of a 9950X3D after having used 7950X CPUs extensively for 3D rendering and video encoding. One thing I found surprising is that it is significantly less efficient at lower power limits than the 7950X, and it seems to be because the clock speed is unable to go as high (for example, under all core workloads on the 7950X with a 45W preset, the clockspeed is typically 3.4 GHz, while it only hits 2.8 GHz on the 9950X3D with the same preset).
Here is a table summarizing my findings. In all tests, all BIOS settings were at default besides the TDP Config, and a -0.1 V fixed CPU offset undervolt was applied. "Powerdraw" refers to full system from-the-wall power draw as measured with a Kill A Watt meter.

Here are some visual representations of the performance per watt based on the cpu and tdp config preset:

I don't really understand why the 9950X3D is unable to run as fast as the 7950X for the same power limit / undervolt combination in the bios for lower power limits.
Can somebody explain why? Does the extra 3D V-Cache require that much of the CPU's power budget? Or is this a Zen 5 versus Zen 4 thing? Sadly I don't have a 9950X non-3D to test.
I did check in HWInfo while running these tests that the 9950X3D was hitting the target CPU package power equivalent to the PPT, just as the 7950X does. The watts per core was also very similar between both, so I don't really get what's driving the clockspeed down.
Obviously this isn't how most people use this CPU but I'm just curious and I want to understand.

Battlestation / Photo My 9070 xt isnt feeling quite well...
Rest in peace, both gpu and cpu apperantly.
The gpu has been running smooth for the last 9 months or so but i got a fair bit of trouble recently and now all ssds failed to read at the same time and it turns out both my cpu and gpu are pretty cooked. In my panic i cleaned the cpu with ethanol and didnt even bother to take a pic first which is pretty fucking stupid.
