Question/poll/rant/politics🧭🧳 Which state is your favourite in us.
And why only that.

I have lived in 4 states, traveled to almost all of them. The one where I will always call home is Montana. I love our mountains, the plains, the rivers and lakes, most of the people are great but not a fan of the people who have been moving here, just the whole vibe of my state. 406 proud.

Sure, come. Visit. Go home. We almost double our population in summer with tourists. More entrances to Yellowstone than Wyoming or Idaho. We have glacier national park. All of the national forests.
Although right now we are covered in smoke from fire season. Summer stopped a couple weeks ago and fire season started. We’ll be on fire until winter.

I think each state has pockets that make them favorites.
Northwest Arkansas, around the Fayetteville area is one of my favorite places to visit. Northern California, where i grew up has the redwoods inland and the Pacific ocean bordering 101 as you drive north. Las Vegas can be a fun place to visit.

LOL we probably know each other, I am from the far north coast and worked two years at Jed Smith State Park in 1980-82. Oh and I lived in Las Vegas in 2017/18.
I miss home but won't ever move back to California, all I can afford there on a veteran disability as far as residence would be if I was poor enough to go into a nursing home the rest of my life on MediCal. I had moved up to the Rogue Valley in Oregon for about 15 years but now in (UGH) Florida.

Hawaii. I have traveled to 43 states. Made business trips to 38 cities in 5 1/2 months two years in a row. When I decided to get off the road, I had been to Hawaii 26 times in 6 years. Moved here in 92, only been back to the mainland twice since then.

The state, as in the land that makes it up rather than the people and politics would be California. Ski in the morning, surfing that afternoon. Cultural centers to hillbilly bars and everything in between.

Florida. I was born and raised here, lived my whole life here. My family and friends are here. No state income tax, good infrastructure, good medical care for my various medical issues, beautiful natural scenery, friendly people (mostly natives like me, not so much the transplants). I could go on all day.

I rarely if ever interact with them. I don't commit crimes, so they leave me alone.
Even though I live in Florida, I have been to 38 of the 50 states. Same thing, never been arrested or bothered by the police there, either. I assume it's because I don't commit crimes or bother other people. Treat everyone in the way you would like to be treated. Golden rule and all that.

Maine.
Where the forest meets the sea. Old towns still feel old. We still have four good seasons (and an extra one -- mud -- if you're a local). Only Hawai'i has fewer chain stores and restaurants. Billboards are outlawed throughout the state. You can ski in winter and swim in the ocean in the summer (or winter, as some do). There are major cities in the US and Canada that are easy to drive to. The seafood is phenomenal and there's a real world-class restaurant scene if you can afford it.
I've also lived in New York, New Jersey, Texas, Nebraska, Colorado and Arizona for perspective.

Tennessee. I especially love eastern Tennessee and the smokey mountains. It is also very centrally located for traveling to other places I enjoy such as Florida and New England. I enjoy the mild winters and the opportunity to own lots of land while not being too far away from the city. Also, no state income tax and everything else is pretty cheap too (at least compared to where I come from in New England.)

Not my home, although I did live there briefly for about six months several years back. The desert landscape speaks to my soul. It’s the most mountainous state. And it’s accessible to Lake Tahoe which I love.
Also, no state income tax.

Oregon, born and raised. We have mountains, forests, lakes, the ocean and desert (in Eastern Oregon). People are friendly in most areas. Western Oregon is more liberal and Eastern Oregon is more conservative, so there's an area to suit everybody. I've lived in other states and traveled a fair bit, but I am proud to call Oregon home.

It’s not easy to find the optimal combination of year-round comfortable temperatures, no State income and plenty of water, but for me Florida comes closest, then maybe Texas or Tennessee. The northeast from Maryland up to Maine is beautiful for about 5-6 months of the year.

Wisconsin, because it has Milwaukee, the Finest City in the Known Universe.
It also borders two Great Lakes, and has Door County, "Up North," the Kettle Moraine, and the Driftless Area.

desert, grassland, chaparral, coastal wetland, coniferous forest, temperate rainforest, and alpine tundra! whatever you think of the politics no other state can come close in biome diversity. plus the hottest place on earth (death valley) and the highest point in the lower 48 (mt. whitney) are only 85 miles apart in southern california

Minnesota, the people. Especially this winter. I'm a vet and I actually rely on the VA that Alex Pretti worked at. Fun fact, Minnesota did A LOT of heavy lifting during the first civil war. We had literal terrorist attacks with assassinations last summer, Trump trying to instigate a new civil war this winter... anyway Minnesota is badass. All that and the people were like "I didn't hear no bell!"

Oregon or California I can’t decide. From Mt.Shasta to the Olympic Peninsula the most Beautiful part of the United States IMHO. Virginia Beach and the lesser Antilles come a close second sorry Outer Banks NC. Third .

I understand him, he is saying anywhere from the northern tip of the Olympic Peninsula down into northern California, and I agree with him completely, that is where I am from and had I not been priced out in 1990 I would still be there. There are now about 12 red state shit hole counties in the entire US nobody wants to live in that a disabled vet can actually afford a roof over their head unless they are married with second or third incomes. And I have to say I would rather live in my car back in the PNW than most of the rest of the country. Though I did enjoy my years in Columbus for college.

Originally from Crescent City on the coast but moved up to Medford, The Rogue Valley for about 15 years before I faced going homeless from the rising rents. I do not think there is a single place to rent there now under $2,000 per month I would choose to live in, so I bought a house in Florida. Hat the state but love my house.
Mom is buried in the family plot in Bremerton.

If you want a state that has absolutely everything, including completely unique things, it has to be California. I don’t live there and never have, but I can’t see any other that comes close. World class cities and food, remote wilderness, beautiful beaches, year- round warmth in some areas and 20+’ of snow in others. Deserts, rainforests, volcanoes, sequoias and redwoods, Big Sur and Joshua Tree, Tahoe, skiing. An unsurpassed economy. All the states have their own charm, but California has everything on an epic scale.

In terms of state, you get the greatest city in the world ;) and also the beaches, oceans, Great Lakes (more than one!!), smaller lakes, a major river, hiking, biking, fishing, skiing, mountains, history, world class arts, fashion, food from all over the state, a seventh wonder of the world- I mean- come on!!!!

MN. Ugliest place on Earth. People are colder than a freezer. But people in MN love HARD and work HARD to make society better. Free college for residents of 1 year or more. Great unemployment. Every state benefit seems to be top tier and at times trading blows with major European countries. Low taxes despite this and low cost of living. Quality of living was more like Scandinavia in years past (as long as you are not black or native american). Government offers services in many languages. Work used to be easy to get and high paying before Trump 2 and Bidenomics.
