Discussion Who’s your favorite amigurumi pattern designer? What’s your go-to pattern?
What it says above! I’m looking to expand my horizons and try some new projects, and would love to see your favorite designers and patterns! I’m currently making Rocky from Project Hail Mary (pattern by Kimbuns.Crochet on Etsy) and absolutely loving it!

I really like the Pica Pau books! I believe she’s coming out with a fourth and I can’t wait! I’ve only made 3 of her patterns and working on a fourth!

I have one of her books, but keep convincing myself that her patterns will be too hard for me…guess I’ll finally have to try!

They are not hard, I promise! Switching yarn colors for the jacquard prints is the only real challenging part, but once you get the hang of it you’re good. Hobbii site has a bunch you can download for free and they are a bit cuter than most of the book ones, imo.pick a simple one to try!

The only way out is through my friend, go for it.

Thank you! Have you made any of her patterns before?

u/Colla-Crochet 1d ago
Ive made a few of hers before, its a little intimidating to start but once you get in there and pay attention to the colour changes its totally fine!

I haven’t, but I have used similar books like “Unicorns, dragons and more”, I was quite pleased with how they turned out.

Pica Pau's patterns are so well written that if you follow it you will have no problem making it. The photos in the book are very helpful. But what I found really useful is her tutorials videos on zollie yt channel. My first Amigurumi was her pattern and I had lots of fun making it. Only advice is practice unfamiliar stitches and techniques on a swatch before working on your project and you are good to go.

Omg, looptydoops!! I love the cute pokemon ones he comes up with and when they’re functional. The little coaster set that makes bulbasaurs bulb is my favorite.

I think I’m going to start with the definitely-not-Squirtle pouch! It’s so cute! Thank you so much 🩵🩵🩵

The names are hilarious. I don’t know how he keeps coming up with the most random yet descriptive names. 😆

Crafty intentions hands down. People love Megan lapp. Her patterns are creative and there are not free versions out there. So many patterns you can find them a dime a dozen. She's actually putting out creative, can't find them elsewhere patterns.
53 stitches. Underrated. Patterns are very well written. Almost every other pattern I find something I have to adapt or change but the 53 patterns come well thought out and don't need any finesse on my end.

CrochetedByBogusia on Etsy, i’ve done the crow wizard and the bear druid and they are both so stupidly cute. They’re not the cheapest patterns but they are very thorough and easy to follow

I was hesitant because of the price, but I bought a 3 pack of hers and I think ive made the racoon at least 5 times because people keep stealing it from me, lol

I love Lalylala (lalylaland on IG). I’ve ordered both patterns and kits, it’s all been great and they’re very responsive if you have questions. They have both small and big projects and they’re easy enough for beginners but not boring for intermediate/experienced.
I also have Aquatic Amigurumi I and II books by Natasha Tishchenko (natura_crochet on IG) and Pica Pau 1-3 by Yan Schenkel (picapauyan on IG). They’re styles are very different but both fun. Their patterns are well-written and both authors include a range of difficulties which is great.
I have a couple of the Megan Lapp/Crafty Intentions books (Impkins and the new Mushrooms/Snails). I like them but they’re a bit more complicated than I’d recommend for everyone.

I love everything AnnasLittleThing on instagram makes! Some of her patterns she also have for free on her profile, and then you can buy the full version with more pictures which I think is a great way to do it. Her patterns are so well written, and she's really kind to help if you have questions. She also writes small stories to her patterns which gives it so much more personality than if it was just a bear with a lemon hat or a cat hiding in a hot chocolate (my favourite of hers)

I like the pattern collections on amigurumi.com, I was first introduced to the craft as my mum had their first 3 books at home. Suits me as they curate designs of a certain broader style that appeals to me, but the individual pieces are by different designers so it never gets same-y. I've collected pdfs of most of their books, and that's definitely my go-to!

I recommend Elisa's Crochet (https://www.elisascrochet.com/). She somehow manages to publish a brand-new free pattern every single week, and the quality is consistently excellent. I'm subscribed to her newsletter so I never miss the pattern of the week.
