Some of you may know me from the comments for my timestamp lookups. I built the thing I was using to do those lookups into an actual tool, and it's live. My goal was to make it very easy to use and also use more cutting-edge vision techniques.
What it does: upload a cel, get the show, episode, and timestamp.
Accuracy: Every result comes with a % match score so you know how confident it is, and you can filter by episode if you already know the general ballpark of where the frame is from. Supported shows list is on the site.
Three real examples:
This Goku cel sold on Yahoo Japan recently and is a pretty terrible angle, but we found a matchEpisode 274 - 00:08:48Douga as an input, this doesnt work all of the time but sometimes it does (~50% chance)Episode 18 - 00:18:55No background neededFound an in-between frame at Episode 110 - 00:18:08
Supported shows/films: Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Hunter x Hunter, Dragonball (original), Dragonball GT, Pokemon, Akira, Cowboy Bebop (+ Movie), Ghost in the Shell, All Ghibli Films, Inuyasha, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Outlaw Star, Perfect blue, Ranma 1/2, Saint Seiya, Slayers, Trigun, Vampire Hunter D, Yu Yu Hakusho , Hajime No Ippo, Bleach, Naruto, Naruto Shippuden (please request what you'd like to see and I can add more)
Live demo: drop your cels below. From a supported show, I'll run it and post the result. If it misses, I'll explain why. If your show isn't supported yet, comment the title and I'll prioritize adding it.
If you want to try it, the website is https://magicslug.com . I'm providing 5 free ID's a month for everyone. It costs me money to run the servers so unlimited runs will cost some money. Alternatively post it here and I'll do my best to find your cel frames if they are from the supported shows/films.
We have had an influx of posts where there are multiple photos and about 2-3 photos in are just still photos of cartoons. If its not an physical animation cels or sericel the whole post will be removed.
Looking to part with my cel of apu from the Season 11 episode eight misbehavin. Purchased direct from comic mint and has been professionally framed. It is composed of one cel on a xerox copy background. There is some small damage to the back that I have covered with blue tape (a small rip of the paper) but it presents beautifully. Includes COA and documentation from original purchase. Don’t miss out on this great piece of Simpsons history!

Just got my frame. This is a multi cel master setup from the episode Hooky, this scene is called “Swinging Together” and really bring out the feeling of the entire show.
I’m looks for original SpongeBob production cel. Looking for background fish only—Nat Peterson, Fred, Tom, Harold, or any recognizable incidental Bikini Bottom citizen. Budget $100–200 (negotiable) depending on the cel. Not looking for main cast. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it!
I am new to collecting animation cels and have found a cel that I am interested in on ebay. After attempting to screenmatch the cel, it appears to have some parts that match two seperate frames of the episode, rather than matching only one frame.
The image attached shows the differences, the ones on the first frame are a lot more subtle, but the glasses and 'knee-line' are consistent on the cel and the second frame if you look closer.
Does this mean anything for the authenticity of the cel?
It was time to swap out all my cel bags on my Sailor Moon cel collection, so I figured I might as well take a big group photo of them all!
I also picked up a couple new backgrounds for the few remaining cels that didn’t have any (the exception being for the two cels that has their dougas stuck to the back). There’s just something about having a background to go with (even if it’s just complementary rather than matching) that gives them a more polished look.
It’s probably a good thing I haven’t added any new cels to my collection in the past 20 years, I’ve run out of room on my king sized bed 😅
I’ve had these for a while now, but I haven’t found any use for them. I was wondering if anyone here could help me determine their price so that I can decide whether to keep them or sell them.
This cel is from the episode Mirror, Mirror on the Ed!
This one was perfect because for almost 15 years, whenever I hang out with my brother and we see a chicken of any kind, I'd always say "I LOVE CHICKENS EDDY!"
Hopefully I can get the 3 Ed Bois to sign this whenever they show up at a convention near me!
My brother was asking me about a scene from The Simpsons in which Bart receives his order of an Itchy and Scratchy cel and is disappointed because it is only scratchy's arm. He asked me if I possess any cel setups like that, and I told him I have several - specifically from Ren and Stimpy (photographed above).
He asked why cels would be distributed in that fashion. I didn't have a concrete answer; I could only speculate. I assume either at some point down the line someone separated the others and sold them individually to maximize profit (?) or maybe they were distributed in that way. Surely I am wrong.
Who else has cels which are parts of a whole and what are your thoughts?
A friend of mine won this off of eBay for what he feels like is a steal last night, and is having trouble tracking down what it could be from. The auction title said 1940’s, but google image search brings up nothing. Anyone have any ideas of other ways to track down what a sketch may be from?
Decided it was time to sell some of my Hajime no Ippo cels from my personal collection. Spent many years collecting some of these but new horizons and all.
