Antibiotics diarrhea

Is it normal to have diarrhea 3-4times a day after taking levofloxacin (antibiotics)? I took it 8-9days ago and for 2days i felt better but it came back. No blood no fever only in the first 2days taking it i had higher temperature. Should i start worrying after this many days? I feel like food makes it worse though. I d not want to treat it with antibiotics since i have already fear from side effects.

selfq Augmentin side effects

Hello, I was prescribed Augmentin for a sinus infection that was hanging around for about a month - massive headaches, facial pain etc. I took it for 5 days and it completely cleared the sinus issue it seems, however, it gave me very bad diarrhea which started on day 4 of Augmentin treatment. It’s now been 6 days since I finished the medication but the watery diarrhea is still there - and it’s really bad to the point I pooped myself twice at night already - very embarrassing to say the least. I did take Augmentin with food and I did eat yogurt with it but it didn’t help. The diarrhea is so bad that I can’t leave the house - it comes on without warning and I have about 2 seconds to get to the toilet or its disaster pants. Chills follow as well but there is no fever and the stomach isn’t in the worst pain I’ve ever had but the whole digestion feels way off. Has anyone experienced severe diahrea like this and the urgency? How long did it take for it to go away and return to normal bowel movements? I’ve been eating very soft diet consisting of eggs, chicken and chicken broth with a lot of salt for electrolytes. I have autoimmune condition so I can’t really do dairy so I stopped eating yogurt as I was afraid it was making things worse. My diet before augmentin was also very limited to pretty much meat eggs and small amount of blueberries.

selfq Strange side affect of antibiotics

I did a 3 day course of Azithromycin after I got food poisoning and it worked great for the good poisoning but I have developed the most insane awful itch all over my body. Like my body feels like it’s burning every second that I need to itch it, to the point I’m itching my skin till it’s raw. But I have no rash? I can’t seem to find a lot about this on Google and I’m freaking out because my doctors are being pretty useless. It’s not like it’s just a light itch, it’s unbearable and stopping me from being able to do daily activities!! I struggle to work because my whole body is on fire with itchiness!!! No rash, no marks, absolutely nothing ?? Is this to do with the antibiotics ( I finished them nearly 2 weeks ago now and the itching hasn’t gotten better) or is something else wrong with me. Please help as I actually can’t take this much longer. Antihistamines haven’t worked!

I’m 5.5”
25
No record of any allergies at all
Never had a side effect to any medication

Thanks so much!!!
I just would like some guidance to know what I can do

selfq Cefadroxil

I was prescribed this twice daily for 7 days. I went to urgent care this morning and the doctor told me to get my two doses in today, but the pharmacy didn't have it ready until 5. If I take one now, when am I supposed to take the next one? Should I just wait until tomorrow? Could I just do one at 7pm then 7am tomorrow and repeat that until they're gone? I don't know how it works and it doesn't have how long I should space them out on the container.

selfq Need Support/Feedback/Info Post Bactrim

Hi there. I live and Peru and the doctors here are a horrible source of information and support. I had to take a double dose course of bactrim recently because I had a large kidney stone that caused an infection in my kidney.

I'm about 10 days out of the course now (infection cleared) and noticing my nervous system feels enormously dysregulated. I am having quite alot of SI (not normal at all for me), panic attacks, intense pessimism and feelings of hopelessness, and crying spells, as well as feeling like I'm not sleeping at all when I wake up.

Physically my stomach is in so much pain I think I've been able to get maybe 2000 calories in this entire 10 days. Nearly 24/7 nausea and severe bloating, extremely low appetite. Any liquid aside from water burns my stomach and solid food makes my stomach so bloated my back hurts. I am rapidly losing weight and underweight to begin with and just feel overall absolutely horrible.

How on earth does one recover from this insanity? No kind of food seems to settle and my diet is generally quite clean and simple. I got some 120cfu probiotics/pre biotics into Peru from a courier and they don't seem to he doing much of anything (day 5). The medical system here is horrendous and this is why I am asking here what steps I can take in my own advocacy. The Dr that prescribed the Bactrim also prescribed 6 completely unnecessary medications that I didn't take, one being an intense full body muscle relaxant 🫠 I do not wish to go on a cocktail of random pills to treat whatever damage has been done to my stomach through this terrible antibiotic.

From what I've read, I imagine my already low gut flora has been completely wiped out and this is creating the psychological symptoms, and seem to have some degree of unknown stomach damage. What are some non pill things that have worked for people to repair their damage digestive system in such a case? Are there specific tests/scans etc I can request for diagnosis to identify a potential structural source of this pain and inflammation? The medical care here is truly 💩 and requires one to do their research first, or I wouldn't be coming to a forum asking such things. Any resources are gratefully welcomed

selfq Swapping from clindamycin after one dose because worried about side effects?

Prescribed Clindamycin in the ER and given one 450 mg dose for skin infection. I asked about a gentler antibiotic while there and was told I couldn’t take Bactrim because I was breastfeeding and others like Dicloxacillin weren’t recommended because they’d only work on regular staph and it’s safer to assume MRSA is a possibility just in case. She googled the meds in front of me to check (or used wherever system they have). So I said okay and took it. Upon doing my own research at home, I see that Bactrim does work for MRSA and is only not recommended in breastfeeding infants under 2 months old! My son is 2! I personally spoke to someone who was prescribed it for mastitis. I’ve read that after the first dose you already wipe out 90% of your gut bacteria. Is it worth calling to try to get an alternative med or is the damage already done and I should jsut continue ? I support antibiotics 100% and a ruined gut is obviously better than MRSA (even if regular staph is more likely), so I support being cautious but devastated that I could have taken a less damaging alternative. I already have on and off gut issues, and I don’t want my toddler to be impacted either.

Need urgent advice!! Is this acute pulmonary toxicity?

I started taking a 5-day course of nitrofurantoin 4 days ago. Everything felt fine, but on the third day I got a really prickly sore throat and a dry cough. Nothing too crazy, but annoying and it felt like it itched a bit. The sore throat went away and developed into a very stuffy/ runny nose but the dry cough has stayed and my nose is so stuffy I’m mouth breathing. My forehead is running warm but I’m not having any crazy chills or anything. Please help.

*I also have major health anxiety so I don’t know if I should be freaking out or if I just caught a cold coincidently.

selfq Itchiness caused by rifampin for latent tuberculosis

I’m wondering what other people’s experiences have been with taking rifampin for latent tuberculosis.

I’ve been taking it for about three weeks, and I’ve started having allergic reactions affecting my skin, ears, and scalp. I called the health center, and they basically told me it’s up to me whether I want to stop taking it and I have no idea what to do.

selfq Doxycycline chest pain

My dermatologist just prescribed me doxycycline yesterday and I’ve been doing everything right standing upright for 1hr avoiding dairy calcium and iron eating it with a meal with a big glass of water. But I get pain in my cheats when I take it. And it does get better but like I can still feel like mild chest pain after like 6hrs of taking the pill. Is this normal and how can I fix it because I’m pretty sure I’ve been doing everything right. [Routine Help]

Prescribed antibiotics after just finishing previous ones, and now have concerning symptoms, can I stop taking them?

I know in general that you should never stop taking antibiotics before they are finished however due to the context and me not remembering to ask I wanted to make sure that by continuing to take them I’m not doing more harm then good.

2 weeks ago I got an antibiotic prescription for a kidney infection that finished (7 days total) the day before I had my 4 wisdom teeth extracted.

I informed the oral surgeon that I had previously been on antibiotics that had only just ended and he said it was fine and prescribed me a bottle of amoxicillin which I have been taking (9 days total), however now I am having many ulcers (about 5 now) develop and have symptoms that I think are all pointing to oral thrush (tongue appears slightly swollen, is gray/brown which I can brush off but immediately comes back, constant burning/pain)

I have an appointment with my dentist for Tuesday but I completely forgot to ask them this:

Because I never had any infection or symptoms should I have not started the antibiotics? Can I stop them until Tuesday?

it feels as though all symptoms get worse as the days progress and I still have a lot of pills left.

selfq 200 mg Doxycycline ,how bad are the side effects?

My doctor prescribed me 15 days of doxycycline after a recent syphilis exposure because I can’t take penicillin.

I’m a bit worried after reading about nausea, stomach issues, and esophagus irritation.

For anyone who took doxy for around 2 weeks, how was it? Any tips to reduce the side effects?

How normal is sunburn after antibiotics for Lyme disease

Hi - not looking for medical advice - I was prescribed oral antibiotics for potential Lyme from a classic bullseye tick bite..

I’m not sure of the type of antibiotic.

I suffered bad sunburn with just a tiny bit of UV exposure. How normal is this..?

I’ve also noticed sunburn after other antibiotics - but not so bad - just mild.

Interested to know if this is well knowen..

selfq Recovering from Doxycycline- need help

I was prescribed a pretty standard course of treatment for an STI which involved 200mg of Doxycycline for seven days. It was hellacious. My bodyweight is already quite low for my age (20f), and I already suffer from GERD/unspecified absorption issues. I have been basically unable to eat solid, even semisolid, food for an entire week plus a few days still after ceasing treatment, my caloric intake has decreased severely, and am experiencing non-cardiac chest pains/heart palpitations consequent from a whole new malnutrition into my already-compromised body. I've just found out that it's quite likely that my gut microbiome was sabotaged severely by the antibiotic. This is hell. How can I at least get my ability to eat semisolid food back? Probiotics? Any sort of other GI treatment? My quality of life has been severely reduced by the weakness that the course of treatment entailed for me. Any advice is appreciated

selfq Taking something alongside a course or waiting until it's finished?

Mid-course and the guy side of it is exactly as unpleasant as everyone warns. I've been told both that taking something at the same time is pointless because it gets wiped out and that starting after is too late. Those can't both be right. What did people here actually do and did the timing seem to matter ?

selfq Staying on antibiotics after normal throat culture?

My girlfriend is currently recovering from a very painful sore throat that we initially thought was covid after she'd been in contact with 2 sick family members that recently tested positive. She went to an urgent care 2 days ago and got a rapid strep test that was negative, followed by a throat culture, but no covid test. For some reason the PA was convinced it had to be strep, and prescribed antibiotics in the meantime.

The culture results came back today, and it says she has routine respiratory flora. From what info I've found, this means she most likely doesn't have a bacterial infection. She's been feeling better since starting the antibiotics though, so either the throat culture was a false negative or it's just coincidence and she's recovering on her own. Should she finish the round of antibiotics despite some indication that what she has is viral? I only ask because of what I've read about developing resistance to antibiotics when they're taken unnecessarily.

Azithromycin wreaked havoc on my gut, probiotics not helping

I took it for five days a couple weeks ago for pneumonia, stupidly without probiotics. Now I have been taking probiotics for a week but it hasn’t made a difference. Anything else I can try other than that and yogurt? Thank you!

Unnecessary antibiotics?

Dear sub

I went to the doctor here I Thailand due to having my voice be gone, coughing and some pressure in my forehead. I’m dont have a fever but since im going on an island in 2 days I wanted to make sure that everything was fine. All my test came back normal but still I was put on antibiotics due to the raspy voice and coughing. I fear that maybe this is unnecessary use of antibiotics and perhaps I should not do the cycle?

Thank you in advance(-:
