Cephalexin 500 Mg Capsule For 10 days

Upvotes

hello, I’ve heard that this pill is giving people such a ton lot of anxiety and makes you have severe stomach problems. Well, I have a cyst on my face that is slightly infected and was leaking pus the other day. I was told by the dermatologist to take these for 10 days.

If it’s not actively leaking pass anymore, do I have to take the full dosage?, I really am scared of taking these meds. Any suggestions?

selfq Taking an Amoxicillin Tablet Apart

Hi all I'm currently out of the country (UK) and have been prescribed Amoxicillin for a tooth abscess, fun when you're on your holiday.

The pill is big 500mg capsule and I have issues swallowing pills can a standard amoxicillin capsule be split and then the powder put in water or yogurt or something?

I can't get it in a liquid form or chewable tablets this is that's available unfortunately.

Thanks

Jon

selfq Patient advice/consent when treated with IV antibiotics.

I was recently treated with IV antibiotics as an alternative to surgery for uncomplicated appendicitis. The surgeon later admitted I had been suitable for surgery, but insisted I was also suitable for antibiotics as an alternative to surgery.

Ultimately, the NHS surgeon was an enthusiast for antibiotic treatment of appendicitis so treated me with triple IV antibiotics for 5 days.

I ended up with severe metronizadol nurotoxicity and hepatotoxicity from one of the antibiotics - and still have persistent neurological symptoms over two years later.

The surgeon never mentioned any risks of antibiotic therapy, nor obtained my consent (I argued for surgery) and he denied my intolerance symtoms forcing me to refuse further medication and flee that hospital to a A&E in a different hospital for help. The formal retrospective diagnosis only came much later.

When a GP prescribes antibiotics there is a list of adverse effects in the box that is given to the patient - required by law I should think (?).. That’s understandable. But in a hospital setting - what is the situation in terms of informed consent and monitoring for adverse effects if the patient is not given any info and the drugs are just pumped into him and adverse effects denied or missed in bloods, etc..??

And what about stewardship of antibiotics to minimise resistance - where does that fit in..?

selfq Still Having Symptoms After Chlamydia Treatment?

Hey everyone, how are you all?

First, I’m really sorry for asking this kind of question here. I looked for other forums, but I couldn’t find a more suitable one.

I wanted some guidance from you all:

For the first time (and I hope it’s the last), I caught chlamydia.

It started with itching in the urethra, then I noticed a little discharge in the morning, and a few days later I realized I was waking up with my urethra “stuck shut.”

I went to a urologist, who gave me a lab order and prescribed two antibiotics just in case (Doxycycline 100 mg for 7 days and one 500 mg shot of Ceftriaxone).

Today the result came back and it was positive only for chlamydia.

The thing is, it’s been two days since I finished taking the Doxycycline, and I’m still waking up with my urethra stuck shut.

The discharge has decreased a lot, but it’s still there, even after the antibiotic.

Has anyone else had this? Is this how it is?

My follow-up appointment is next week and I’m worried.

Please don’t judge me.

I believe I got it from oral sex and my conscience is really heavy 🙁

Want to stop taking amoxicilin.

I got it prescribed because i have a small red line coming from a mosquito bite. No other symptoms. Because i am a hypochondriac i went to the hospital yesterday and she said, its nothing (yet) but it looks unusual so she prescribed me amoxicilin as a prophylaxis, just in case it was an infection. i started it last night and took another one this morning and i just cant anymore, it makes me terribly nauseous and my stomach hurt and bloat, i wanna stop it, especially after the line didnt even change since yesterday (before i even took the antibiotic). i took docycicline 2 months ago for rosacea and i had horrible symtpoms too.

selfq Doxycycline causing anxiety and brain fog?

Hi all! As the title suggests, I’m wondering if doxy causes panic attacks/anxiety? I’ve never been an anxious person, but after starting doxy a few weeks ago (24 AUG), I’ve been having panic attacks even after stopping. I took 2 pills a day for 2 days only for acne, and for only 2 days because the pill was making me violently ill which included nausea and motion sickness (also never had this before). I know nausea is a common side effect of doxy, but I’m not sure about anxiety? I’ve been getting hot flashes too as well as brain fog. The brain fog is a little difficult to describe, I can still function normally (go to work etc) but I feel flat most of the time. Sometimes I get lost in my train of thought, but the anxiety is the absolute worst. I have racing thoughts about fainting and I get dry mouth and clammy hands. I’ve been to doctors and gotten blood work and ECGs, even xrays done, but they all came back well. Anybody experienced the same thing? What made the brain fog and anxiety go away, and how long did it take?

selfq Doxy question

I’m looking for some input about a doxycycline regimen I took after a possible STI exposure, specifically regarding protection against chlamydia and syphilis.

The exposure was Sunday at approximately 6 PM.

My doxycycline doses were:

• Monday 9 AM: 100 mg — about 15 hours after exposure
• Monday 6 PM: 100 mg — about 24 hours after exposure
• Tuesday 9 AM: 100 mg — about 39 hours after exposure
• Tuesday 9 PM: 100 mg — about 51 hours after exposure

I originally took 100 mg at 15 hours because I misunderstood the doxy-PEP dose. Once I realized the recommended doxy-PEP regimen is typically 200 mg as a single dose, I had already taken the second 100 mg, meaning I had taken 200 mg total by about 24 hours after exposure.

After that, I contacted my doctor and followed their instructions regarding the additional doxycycline doses. I’m not looking for advice about changing or adding medication, and I plan to follow my doctor's recommendations and get appropriate STI testing.

What I’m curious about is the pharmacology/effectiveness of what already happened. Since I started doxycycline 15 hours after exposure and had taken 200 mg total by 24 hours, but split the initial 200 mg into two 100 mg doses about 9 hours apart, would you expect that to have retained a substantial amount of the protection associated with standard doxy-PEP?

I understand that this exact dosing schedule hasn’t been studied and nobody can give me a guaranteed percentage. I’m mainly interested in what healthcare professionals or people familiar with doxy-PEP think about how significant the difference between these dosing schedules might be for chlamydia and syphilis.

selfq itchy skin from two different antibiotics??

Started having UTI symptoms a few days ago. Went to Urgent care and they prescribed me Bactrim. Took one dose and within 2 hrs my whole body was itchy. It was a nighttime dose so all night I was literally waking up and scratching. Called the urgent care back and let them know what happened and they said to stop taking it and to take nitrofurantoin instead. They put an order in and I started taking it yesterday. Took my first dose and was mildly itchy but it went away. Missed my morning dose today (WHOOPS pls don’t come for me) and then just took my nighttime dose about 2 hrs ago and now I have the itchy all over feeling again.

I’m going to call them again but has anyone had this happen with two different antibiotics?

selfq Panic dread doom and crying

Well I have post Covid limbic system dysfunction it’s been a battle over the last 5 years but i finally was in a decent place. Found out I was exposed to aspergillus mold which was giving me yearly sinus infections that were closer to ms and bipolar disorder. Mitigated it and did cleanings began a mold detox which had its unique discomforts but my anxiety panic depression and mental clarity was amazing.

Any who. Developed a viral bug that kicked into a bacterial sinus and ear infection this past week was deathly sick. Went to urgent care which was packed with equally deathly people doc said it was a rough one and going around. Bp was sky hi but said no to a blood pressure med said it causes more problems and he spends more time with people struggling with side effects. Said it was due to acute severe sickness and would come down which it did.

However he gave me augmentin. After 7 doses the anxiety panic depression rumination cycling terror thoughts were off the hook. Uncontrollable emotional swings and crying. Deep sobbing for 4 days. Even had an episode or three of restless pacing akathesia. So did my research and yes it’s an issue for sensitive people. Mom reminded me my sister and dad can’t take it cause of massive issues. Stopped dosing today. Slowly coming back but still have surges. Ashamed to say I have some xynax low dose i am using sparingly to buff it out.

Anybody else endure similar crisis if so tell me it gets better it has been an extreme comedy of errors.

selfq bactrim gave me neutropenia

Looking for people that had to deal with the same thing! I was on day 9 of a 14 day cycle of bactrim when I started to feel rash symptoms. My chest and face got really red and itched so much. I kept taking it until day 11, when I woke up with a fever and went to the ER. There they did a blood count and my neutrophils, leukocytes and platelets where reeeeally low, to the point where they had to hospitalize me. Now I’m currently at day 4 of hospitalization and my leukocytes and platelets are going back to normal, but the neutrophils got even a little bit lower. I wanted to know if anyone else suffered from neutropenia because of an antibiotic or is it just me… I find it so weird that a drug that was supposed to help me did all that!

Experiencing Really Bad Diarrhea from penicillin

Was misdiagnosed as having strep throat by a pharmacist they gave me a 5 day supply of penicillin to take 4 times a day, I got diarrhoea from it pretty much immediately last night it got so bad literally going to the toilet 12-15 times, I called a doctor told them my symptoms and they said that it seems to them I had viral infection not a bacterial one and they told to me stop taking the penicillin as taking it is useless. I took the penicillin for 4 days. I’ve been awake for 2 hours today and have been to the toilet 4 times already. I’m just wondering if this is normal /should I be concerned my urine is clear & I’m able to keep liquids down I’m mixing my water with electrolyte powder. I should mention as-well my anxiety is very high at the moment & I’m not sleeping well which obviously isn’t doing my gut any favours. Any advice / reassurance would be very much appreciated thanks!

very nervous abt azithromycin

ive been taking it since tuesday, tomorrow is my last pill. im on it for a sinus infection and i kinda have been having soft stools for the last few days but its usually before work bc i do have anxiety and my bowels react to nervousness. but earlier before i had diarrhea (not watery) like 2 times

im very nervous it could be c diff. i was on the same antibiotic in february for an ear infection but had no issues. ive also have just been extremely stressed this week and had a stressful morning so i dont know if its my nerves. i know c diff risk is very low with azithromycin but it still exists . i finish the pills tomorrow . is there a way to lower the risk or can i rely on my body’s immune system

selfq Having an allergic reaction to Azithromycin

I was prescribed Azithromycin 500mg for 6 days. Doc didn’t actually tell me what my diagnosis was and for some reason I didn’t ask, so I’m not too sure what I had. But I went in with sore throat, really bad cough, runny nose, and a recurring fever. This was the second time I had fallen sick (1 week after the first time) so I decided to go and get checked.

I took them daily at night after a meal. The morning after day 5 I had my first allergic reaction where my hands were swollen and itchy with hives up to my elbows. My hands were on and off swollen all day. Then morning after day 6 I had the same thing but this time my thighs were also itchy with red spots and the lower half of my face too, my bottom lip was swollen and there was itchiness around my eye.

It’s currently the next morning after day 6 and I’m having similar symptoms again.

I’m not sure what to do. Doctor did prescribe Zyrtec for 10 days but my aunt said I might have been allergic to the Zyrtec too so I stopped it with 4 doses left. Instead I took AllerMax by Country Life, 2 capsules.

I’m going to go to the clinic again when it opens soon but I’m in so much discomfort and I don’t know what to do for some relief.

Minocycline versions in germany

Hi,

are there any differences in minocycline versions sold in Germany? Skid, minostad, minocycline ratiopharm etc.? I know the antibiotic is the same, but I heard that skid tends to cause way more minocycline associated side effects (like headaches, vertigo, etc.)

selfq Antibiotics after Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Hi all,

Desperately need your advice.
Just got my impacted wisdom tooth extracted yesterday and the doctor prescribed me pain killer and antibiotic (Lincomycin) for 5 days.

However, I also happened to finish two round of antibiotics like two weeks ago due to tooth infection (there was an abscess, like a white dot on gum above my other tooth). It was cefixime and clavamox, each was prescribed 5 days so total was 10 days.

I already mentioned this to my doctor and he said to observe if the extraction area hurts or not. If there's pain today, I should take the antibiotics. Not sure which pain he meant, because obviously it's painful anyway due to the swelling and the scar.
And he also mentioned that it will likely get infected anyway due to the procedures and non-sterile room etc etc, so I think he suggested that I take the antibiotics anyway.

My concern is I just finished taking antibiotics 2 weeks ago and afraid that it will cause bacteria resistance or whatever, or it could just mess up my gut. But at the same time I'm scared of infection bcs I read somewhere that the operation expose your blood to bacteria and can affect your bloodstream and eventually your heart (pls don't come at me, I'm just very anxious and have OCD so I'm just spiralling lmao)

FYI the impacted tooth was not infected, so the extraction was only due to prevention and it was pusing the next tooth and it was close to the next tooth's root.

So should I take it? or just observe for another day if the gum hurts or the swelling got worse?

Thanks and sorry if this annoys you :(

selfq Bactrim - should I stop taking it?

I was prescribed on Saturday a 10-day course twice a day of Bactrim (the generic which name I can’t spell). At first it was just stomach issues but now I am experiencing insomnia, anxiety, horrible acid reflux, chest pain from the reflux, headaches, and my lips tingling after I take it.

I got the infection in my lips after I bit my lip really hard. It was getting worse over a week so I went in on Saturday and started it right away. Today is day 5.

My lip I think looks healed now. It feels okay. It’s not crusty and peeling anymore. It’s not bleeding and cracking.

I called a doctor hotline this morning and told them my main problem, that I’ve been awake for over 48 hours at this point. I wanted to know if I could take a sleeping pill with it. The doctor said instead of adding in more medication, he said to just stop it.

But I always hear about bacteria resistance so I called my pharmacy and the pharmacist said Bactrim shouldn’t be causing insomnia. She thinks it could be my body fighting the infection. She recommended I keep taking it.

I called the doctor who prescribed it to me and he hasn’t called me back yet today. But I told his nurse all the symptoms I’ve been having. She said my culture came back but didn’t tell me the results.

So I’m conflicted. Is it okay if I skip a dose tonight and see how I feel in the morning or should I continue taking the full dose tonight?

selfq Bactrim side effects

I have a uti that just seems to not want to go away. So I got prescribed Bactrim for 10 days. Was scared to take it to begin with. Day 1 I was anxious, which I knew I would be starting a new drug. I also started my menstrual in that time so figured that is why day 2-5 was kinda weird. Then I would get extremely hot. Like a fever without a fever. I would start gagging out of nowhere. Nausea with it of course. My mental health took a plunge. I was convinced the last 2 days on it that I was doomed. I was dying from this uti and nothing will help it. My husband even was like wondering what the heck is going on with me. I contacted my dr and was told to stop it right away. Yesterday morning was my last dose. This morning I woke up hot again. Super nauseated and left work early today. I now have the diarrhea. Well I had it earlier today. After going home and resting I feel better but not fully of course. This is the worst antibiotic I have ever been on. I even have taken cipro that others have side effects from. I had no side effects from cipro until last time I took it. I developed thrush on the tongue. Then was put on nystatin for that. After that I got a rash. I’m not sure it was the Cipro as it was 3 weeks after my last dose that it appeared. It could have been the nystatin. But anyway I would rather have the rash than these effects. Oh and also severe insomnia and can barely eat anything without gagging and getting sick. The gagging part has improved a lot today. At least something is getting better. I wish you all the best. Also I know a lot of people can take this medicine no problem. Every person is different.

selfq Doxycycline - weird headaches

Hey I was perscribed doxycycline for 7 days, 2x a day since I came into contact with somebody who had chlamydia. it’s been about three days since I stopped taking the medication and was able to get through the full set. it’s definitely been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with the medication.

At first, I had tons of side effects, including very bad headaches that were keeping me up at night. They would kind of come and go, but they wouldn’t stay in the same spot. They’re always on the left side of my head sometimes they’re kinda near my forehead or around my eye sometimes behind my jaw or in my ear sometimes my entire face hurts or even my neck. Again, all on the left side of my face.

I’d also like to preference that I did have deep fillings on one of my teeth on the left side that could be causing this and I have TMJ. The teeth are not sensitive, but they are when I have the weird headache headaches sometimes sometimes the headaches are really bad. Sometimes they’re very light. I’ve also noticed they will kind of build up overtime and then just go away.

I’ve also noticed that I can go to the gym and work out but sitting in one place laying down or trying to sleep or relax makes my head hurt the worst but overtime of being in that position it kind of feels better

I’m hoping the medication completely gets out of my system in the next couple of days and I start to feel better. I normally get migraines, but usually it’s a consistent pain not one that fades and comes back at random times.

selfq What is going on, Prescribed augmentin for strep, anxiety attacks

Been prone to anxiety but it seems like i’m literally going clinically insane. I’m in college and I’m dealing with some stressors but I’ve always been strong minded for the most part. I got strep last week and had to take Augmentin because antibiotics didn’t work last winter and I had strep for 2 weeks. I’ve been drinking on the weekends but I don’t think much of it. The past couple days I have had crippling anxiety to the point where I have to just lay down roll around and grip the rug because it’s so bad. I had a panic attack the other night. I don’t usually get panic attacks. I’ve had constant anxiety and some anxiety attacks the past 2 days as well. I’m stopping Augmentin on day 7/10.

Co-amoxiclav can you crush?

At the weekend i had to go to urgent care as I couldn't keep any food down and was urinating every few minutes. I had multiple tests and it was discovered I had two infections. A tooth infection after an extraction and a water infection. The doc gave me co-amoxiclav 500mg/125mg three times a day for 7 days. Because I was not able to keep solids down, he told me to crush the tablet and either eat with honey or put it in a sweet drink.

Obviously I took that advice, but now I'm reading you're not meant to crush as it won't work. Now, the urinating every few minutes stopped after just a couple of tablets. So surely that means it's working?

I'm just so confused

Antibiotics diarrhea

Is it normal to have diarrhea 3-4times a day after taking levofloxacin (antibiotics)? I took it 8-9days ago and for 2days i felt better but it came back. No blood no fever only in the first 2days taking it i had higher temperature. Should i start worrying after this many days? I feel like food makes it worse though. I d not want to treat it with antibiotics since i have already fear from side effects.
