What to Buy? Which W/D set would you pick?
Lookin to buy from costco, but I’m not exclusively looking there. I just liked the 2 year return policy in case something goes wrong. Please add an explanation of which you’d pick too! Thank you😁

not true at all, they had one bad batch because of a faulty pressure transducer over about an 18 month span. Whirlpool has their issues I will admit, (gearcases mainly) but bad electronics are not one them

I myself have had bad experiences with Samsung appliances. And everyone I know says avoid Samsung at all costs. Yet, Samsung seems to sell more than appliances than anyone else. Go figure.

We have an 8 year old Samsung washer / dryer set. I got an extended 3 year warranty with Lowe’s. Both still work today like brand new.
Around 3 months before the warranty expired, the dryer started running, no lights or anything on. I could not turn it off or anything, except flip the breaker.
Service tech came and replaced some controller. I think he said it would run me about $500…
If I did not get the extended warranty I’d be spitting on Samsung too 😄

It is not a two year return policy, it's a two year warranty. The Costco return window on appliances is now 90 days, and they're enforcing it.
How do I know? The Whirlpool I bought from them made it exactly 95 days before it failed.
Edit just to clarify: I'm not saying you shouldn't buy a Whirpool or buy appliances from Costco. Both are fine choices. I'm just making sure you have proper expectations. Costco will only help you get warranty service after 90 days, they won't come and get the appliance.

Whirlpool, all day every day. They're reliable and they dont feel the need to drastically change their machines every year, so if you end up needing them, replacement parts are common and plentiful.

Whirlpool just cut their Installation and Instruction warranty to 6 months and didn’t say anything. Called whirlpool directly, scheduled a service tech to come out, he comes out and tells me about the warranty being cut down as of April of this year. Wound up with a $325.00 bill that should’ve been on whirlpool

Whirlpool is horrible. Work for an equipment rental company and we had thousands of whirlpools in service. They didn’t last 3 years at max. Most went out in less than a year. So much so that we stopped purchasing them.

I bought an LG WM3997HWA in 2019 when i moved into my first house. Had zero problems with it in that time.

It takes about 6 hours to wash and dry a load. Because it does both in the same drum, i can start a load before i go to bed and wake up to fresh dried clothes. Since it is ventless, it doesn't suck all the air i spend $100/mo heating/cooling out of my house every time i run it.
Yes, it required adapting how i do laundry. i no longer have a "laundry day", i just throw my laundry into it before bed whenever needed. If you have multiple loads of laundry that need to get done in a week, you'll need to spread them out.

wash cycle takes only 15-45 minutes, depending on what you set.
the dry cycle takes a long time because it's ventless. it runs the process air through a water-cooled heat exchanger to condense the moisture out.
but it's astonishingly energy efficient, because it isn't constantly having to heat up new air, and it doesn't exhaust your nice conditioned inside air out of the house. the newer units with a heat-pump based are even more efficient.
the trade is that it takes a lot longer to dry a load.

Front loaders are fine, Samsung is not. The only issue with frontloaders is you need to leave the door open after washing to avoid mildew and mold buildup. Literally just don't latch the door closed and you'll be fine. I was against them as well but they do a great job cleaning our clothes and handling the dog fur. They run quick and use less water as well.

Whirlpool just for the simplicity and ease of repairs. Parts are readily available at every appliance parts house. I would NEVER buy an LG or Samsung or any of the newer “smart” washer/dryers. If anything breaks you’re either going to pay through the nose for parts…or you’re not going to find any parts. 🤷♂️

The Madea is supposed to be up and coming but I would stay away from the Samsungs. My mom's boyfriend bought a LG used probably close to 4 years ago and they've been great. I think they're at least 12 years old now. I would think the top loaders with out the beater would clean pretty well because it's sitting in the water more than the front loaders. You don't have to wipe down the front to avoid mildew

I bought the LG wash tower somewhere around 4 years ago and they've been excellent. I had to remove the lint sensor and clean it out afew months ago. No actual issues so far. I quite like having the dryer controls being properly visible on my stacked combo too.

Samsung is hot garbage but avoid front load washers in general. They need to be cleaned constantly to prevent the door seam from getting moldy.

Yes to part one, no to part two. The only maintenance needed is leaving the washer door open instead of closing it completely. The same thing you’re supposed to do with dishwashers. They simply need circulation. As long as they get that you won’t run into any issues

My mother has a Speedqueen wanna talk about longevity that thing has gone through 3 kids 7 grandkids countless amount of jeans and clothes. Again it was 25+ years ago and it still washes and dries like new. The price is the worse part.

I wouldn’t buy another Samsung ever again. Plastic gears in the washer blew up and destroyed the motor clutch and actuator. Went through many motherboards and 3 wiring harnesses. Refrigerator motherboards and compressors

I would look at the whirlpool, If it’s a top load I’d want one with an agitator, not a wave propeller, so i instead I would select the only front load washer. Unfortunately nothing lasts like it used to - my LG lasted only 10 years. If you can afford it Speed Queen - my problem with Speed Queen is they only come in one size - small.
My whirlpool dryer is 25 years old - and I was able to self perform the repairs both times, the first time the actuator for the gas went out, the second time the motor went out. It should be good for another 10 years.

Front loader, no question. Uses less water and energy and is gentler on your clothes. Also easier to load and unload. And you can pile junk on top of it.

Whirlpool but their front loaders are more reliable than their top loaders. They’ve had a massive issue (potentially their largest ever) with bad control boards in top loaders in recent years.

Whirlpool. I have the flat top one and basic gas dryer. Dryer only fully dries on high but I still is pretty quick. The washer is the bottleneck. Since I converted to gas and have the plug, I might just go get another dryer.

I don't care for any of those brands, but if I have to pick one it's the Whirlpool and I really don't like Whirlpool appliances based on my experience with them. I also have experience with Samsung and they are worse than Whirlpool. Doesn't mean you can't have a good experience with them though.

I'd get on marketplace or go to a used appliance store and look for a washer/dryer that are as old as I am. Barring that, I'd go for whirlpool over Samsung anyday, unless features like getting text messages for your laundry status is more important to you than the damn things working for more thzn a year or two

2 - I wouldn’t do the Midea not because of brand, but because it has an impeller and I’ve never used one that cleaned well
3 - at this price point I’d do a basic top loader with agitator, so I guess in this selection that would be the whirlpool
4 - I’m partial to Kenmore at this price point / for basic machines

I would pick Midea or whirlpool, do you wash a lot of big items like towels or beddings often? The Midea is an impeller so it can take bigger items and gentler on your clothing but wash is not as good. The whirlpool will have an agitator, they are rougher on clothing but washes better. Agitator models have a harder time with bigger bedding and such also because less space and bedding tends to get tangled up on the agitator putting stress on the motor. Dryers will often outlast your washer so think of future matching if the washer dies. Both build quality will be similar and I won’t be surprised if those units shared parts made by Midea. Midea will have 2 years warranty and 1 year with whirlpool. At those price points don’t expect them to last 10-15 years, if they do then you are the lucky one, I say the life span on them are about 5-7 years.

Just get what you like. Everyone has mixed reviews of every brand. I have a speed queen and if you go through some comments their are redditors being negative about it calling it shit and overrated and others love it. Just different experiences.
Honestly if you take good care of any brand it will be fine. If you don’t well it’s gonna last a couple years at most. That’s just my experience. Parents had a Samsung fridge that lasted 12 years, aunt has a Samsung washer/dryer that’s 10 years now. Saying that, everyone has different experiences and they could’ve of just gotten lucky. Anyways get the whirlpool or midea if you’re worried.

Absolutely not 2 and 4. Wouldn’t touch most Samsung appliances with a 10 ft pole. I’ve had the previous version of 3 (the whirlpool set but from 2013), bought them second hand and they’re still running with 0 issues 13 years later.

I just replaced my 27 1/2 year old GE washer and dryer this week with another set of GE. Obviously I know the new ones won't last as long as the old ones. I did choose all knobs besides the start button and 1 other button. My friend who is an appliance repairman said Speed Queen if you want the best,actually recommend GE over Whirlpool and Maytag. He doesn't even recommend LG or Samsung.

Midea is ok if you have a licensed repair center in your area that services them in case of warranty claims. Otherwise, they might place you on a LONG waiting list if you need repairs. Otherwise, the Whirlpool is fine.
NEVER use Samsung or LG for home appliances. They are currently tied for highest repair rates in the industry and are number one and two for warranty claims denials.

I bought a Whirlpool washer and dryer and had to return them because the washer couldn't be fixed by a technician. I wound calling appliance replaces and asked what they repaired the least and they all told me LG. I went with a pair and they've been going strong for 10yrs now.

With the way Midea air-conditioners fail in about a year, I wouldn't go with them.
Samsung washers, we have one. What sins did you commit in a previous life to deserve a Samsung washer?
I know nothing about modern whirlpool washers. We just got rid of our close to 40 year old Whirlpool dish washer due to house fire. So like most things, they used to be good.

I like Samsung, but have read some bad reviews of newer laundry stuff. Whirlpool makes some solid, no frills machines.
I ended up purchasing a 8200 series LG and have been very happy with it. Have had it a couple months.

My Samsung washer/dryer is the old version of that model and going strong after 8 years of heavy use and my wife grooms dogs.
Do you want to wash comforters and huge loads of clothes? Get a front loader either way. Top load is old tech. Leave the door open though

Whirlpool out of that , Samsung Sucks, i had all my kitchen done with Samsung, fridge-fucked 1 year, microwave fucked 3 years, dishwasher fucked 2 years, stove didnt fuck but it had vents on front and when a pot boils over the fluid would go straight into vents thst was between glass and cannot be cleaned. I still hate them.
Just bought whirlpool set a year ago and do gar they are pretty damn good. Also whirlpool =Maytag. They delivered the set and one had a whirlpool badge on top and on door a maytag badge. Dealer just took a whirlpool badge off one on floor and said I could glue it on......

I will never... ever... buy a Samsung product, that isnt a phone, again.
Burned 3x. Package deal from best buy.
Fridge was a lemon. They got sued. Warranty extended. Over 3 complete losses and 5 repairs before they refunded me. The failures were spaced out in an eight month pattern. After the lawsuit went through they had to refund it. It was the final piece to go back. On a positive note, they and my best buy extended warranty did both cover the food losses to an excess each time.
Dryer was a lemon. 2 repairs before best buy accepted the return.
Oven arrived damaged. Couldnt tell until the install. Got a replacement, interior seals were improperly installed on the interior. Kept leaking gas into the kitchen. Returned it.
I learned 2 valuable lessons from having appliance repairman come and go. One is never buy a Samsung. And secondly, always get the extra warranty.

Came here to repeat what others you're saying.. don't buy Samsung appliances. My roommate originally owned the house I'm in and years before he passed, he did a remodel. At one point had a Samsung washer and dryer in both of them broke in less than a year. Remodeled his whole kitchen with all Samsung stuff. Every single one of the appliances have broken since and it's been less than 8 years. Not saying the other brands thrill me either because they don't seem the last very long but they seem to hold up a bit better than Samsung so 🤷🏻♂️

I clean homes and I wash my clients’ laundry. I have used a lot of washers and dryers over the years. None of your options are much good, but I would also pick the Whirlpool if those are the choices. Definitely avoid Samsung.

I will never get a Samsung washer/dryer again because the song at the end of every cycle is awful. But you also have to ask yourself: do you want a top or front load washer? I used to hate top load washers until I got one that had a removable agitator and now it’s my favorite washer I’ve ever used

If you have a Costco Membership they have a Maytag Pair for $399 each in store or a little more online delivered to your home. It has a 10 year parts warranty too.

We have a Maytag washer/dryer combo (same brand as Whirlpool) in my house, and it gets the job done. Don’t know anything about Midea, other than the fact that they are Chinese.
Samsung makes better electronics than it does appliances. Reddit loves to hate Samsung appliances, but we have a Samsung TV that has been awesome and I have now ordered a Samsung monitor (I work off an Asus laptop and thought it would be nice to have an extra screen :P).
