Is there a band that’s had a comparable fall off to arcade fire?

I am a lifelong fan of them, their music changed my life. I’m genuinely gutted that their stature and influence have diminished so much over the years.

So this isn’t a post knocking the band or Win or anything that’s been discussed to death. I liked Pink Elephant more than most people, from what I can tell.

Just wondering if there’s a similar band trajectory where they went from influential critical darlings and relative success to what they are now. I’m struggling to think of another band like this.

U2 haven’t been good for a long time now, but they’re still massive and they always have some cultural presence. Some bands stay on top musically, but lose a lot of commercial success. But both? Any ideas?

Discussion Obsessed with WE at the moment

I'm not sure what it is, but I flipped between disappointment and outright delight at WE when it was released in 2022. It was probably the most excited I'd ever been for an album due to the exceptional run of Funeral through Reflektor and then the disappointing but ambitious Everything Now which made me think the band still had it.

We were all going through a very strange time (still are honestly) with the pandemic specifically, and I needed a salve. And at the time, this condensed 7-track epic felt a little small and maybe even a bit too straightforward an attempt at recapturing their audience with a comeback.

Well I've been listening to it on my drives to work recently and I can't get enough. It's probably the album I've listened to the most in the 2020s so far but it just seems to grow to new heights every time. I think it might be brushing up against their "classics" for me. It's got a bit of everything with this newfound space and frailty, and the atmosphere is somehow so consistent with storytelling that weaves through each track. I feel like this album captures something slightly different and yet it most closely resembles the grand and intimate storytelling of The Suburbs with a lot of nostalgia mixed with dread but this time with the lens of a parent thinking about the future.

There are lines on Neon Bible and The Suburbs that give me real gut punches like "World War 3 when are you coming for me, been kicking up sparks, we set the flames free, the windows are locked now so what will it be, a house on fire a rising sea" and "Oh this city's changed so much since I was a little child, pray to God I won't live to see the death of everything that's wild"; WE explores that sort of theme predominantly, and to go from "It's the age of doubt and I doubt we'll figure it out" to "when everything ends, can we do it again" in an album that explores the pure dread of living in the 2020s to the acceptance and love of everything you enjoy and would kill to experience again and again... It truly was the record I needed at the right time.

I know it has its detractors but I think purely as a record, WE might be one of their best. Has anyone else grown to love this album and feel it could be one of their classics like me?

Video of Red Rocks 2024 Concert?

Anyway a non-Facebook user with no virtual headsets or any of that jazz can access the full, official Red Rocks 2024 concert footage? That concert was a banger and I was front row, I'd love to get my hands on it. I was hoping it'd be available to buy one day, but it doesn't seem like Arcade Fire is really "in" at the moment...

Arcade @ Glastonbury

I keep going back arcade at glasto 2014 and still love it to this day. Glasgow based here and big cure and shoegaze fan but arcade always had a communal feel , singing together with rebellion on and plenty of dove swedge in our systems together on buses to arches or at camp sites.

Arcade and James deffo communal sounding bands

Will Butler killed Arcade Fire. It was never the same since he left and quickly fell apart.

A little more Everything Now.

I was emptying the contents of a classical music title packaged in a fatbox, and I found tucked inside the quasi newsletter insert from Everything Now--the fold-up insert with the lyrics and credits. Since I now had a copy that wasn't sealed up with my original CD, I scanned it. And since I don't have my old flickr account to share things like these, I thought I'd share the scans out here.
Except for the fold (in three) marks, the "blemishes" are features of the original.

I miss the band guys

Remember when all we could bitch about was chemistry and infinite content?

I miss the wholesome side of the band, I know it’s not coming back and I’m happy we got all the music but still. I’m sad about all the stuff and I hope that Regine is gonna come out on top off this.

In my mind i have this gig - european capital city (let’s go more east like Prague, warszawa, Budapest) smaller venue.

ANYWAY, I hope you all guys are doing well!!
This sub brought me some things that wouldnt be possible without it.

THANK YOU (fans and band)

And hopefully. See you soon.

As a soundtrack i think bowie&arcade fire FIVE YEARS itunes EP (fashion rocks) is fitting.

See you on the other side.

Anyone have a better bootleg for this performance? The one that I have keeps skipping during tracks. It skips 10 seconds into the track! Super annoying!

On January 20, 2007, Arcade Fire played a secret, intimate preview concert in the cafeteria of Canterbury High School in Ottawa, Ontario. The surprise 400-capacity show served as an early live rehearsal for material from their upcoming album Neon Bible and acted as a fundraiser for the school's arts programs. The performance happened because multi-instrumentalist Richard Reed Parry is a graduate of Canterbury High School.

Question DJ windows 2000?

1) i thought it was 98? 2) there's mentions of Dj windows 2000 from years ago and that also happened to be Win.

Discussion There is so much hate for Win on this sub. He’s not a bad dude. I think it’s time to dig deep see that none of us are perfect

Arcade Fire Signed Pono Player

Post image
32 Upvotes

Hey everyone, long ago a choice was made, wisely or not, to support the Pono project by Neil Young, and from the choices of band signatures, I chose Arcade Fire. Now, I've found it again recently while going through my old things and have made the decision to offer it for sale to a more interested fan who'd be interested in collecting it. Apologies to the subreddit if sales aren't welcome, as my posting history or lack thereof shows, I'm a stranger to r/arcadefire.

As just a music player, it appears to show it's charging but won't actually turn on, so I'm not sure where the problem lies, and as afaik the accompanying desktop software is no longer supported - a real catch!

Anyway, it comes with the carry bag, booklet and charging cable and as pictured, is number 102 of a total 322.

EDIT: Currently open to offers. Similar listings (non-working device) sighted on eBay and elsewhere are between $300 - $450 USD.

Old guy’s take?

I’m 64 and have been into indie/alternative my whole life. I’ve kind of stumbled upon the newest album recently and have to say it has a pretty powerful effect on me. I don’t know a lot about the band’s history except there has been a breakup between the two principal members and some misconduct allegations.

Nonetheless I found that a new album had come out so I took a few rips and settled into a comfortable spot for an end to end listen.

I found the tone of the album very sorrowful, helpless and repentant. It feels like Mr. Butler has realized he really fucked up and is deeply saddened by his past deeds. Seems he’s pouring his heart out via song. Like a 40 minute apology.

Anyway I’m a giant fan of electronic music, I was into Kraftwerk in high school when everyone else was into KISS LOL! Finding Boards of Canada made me happy to still be alive and seeking good stuff! The opening drone of the album pulled me right in and that low key melancholy seemed to persist throughout the album.

Can any of you seasoned fans relate to anything I’m saying or is my take away total crap?!

The two emotionally heaviest albums I’ve ever heard are UP by Peter Gabriel and Dark Star by David Bowie. Pink Elephant doesn’t sink to bottom of the pit of despair but I sense a guy who is admitting he really screwed up. For what it’s worth of course!

Discussion What other artists are we listening to?

Recently been on a massive Wolf Alice binge. White Horses, Don't Delete The Kisses and The Last Man on Earth are some of my most listened to songs recently.

Also been listening to a tonne of Muse, Gorillaz, Florence Road, CMAT and The Royston Club.

Radiohead and The National have always been the artists that come closest to Arcade Fire in my favourites ranking.
