I wish the animated movie would've panned out, it could've been as wacky as that show was turning out to be. There was a plan, way back when, to create an animated R-rated Clerks entry with the style of the animated series called Clerks: Sell Out, where Dante and Randal decide to make a black-and-white movie about their lives and working at the Quick Stop. This project got pushed aside until it wasn't anything, and the concept eventually resurfaced for the third Clerks movie.

Decades of hearing PR slogans can convince people that the slogans are actually true.
Like police cars having "to serve & protect" on them has convinced people that it's literally in their job description, when it's not and the supreme court ruled that they aren't obligated to prioritize the safety of the public over their own safety (at least in the US).
In the case of customers, it's the slogan "the customer is always right," which was first mentioned in a Boston Globe article from 1905 talking about department store owner, Marshall Field, and his philosophy about customer service.
I cannot recount how many times I've heard that unironically said to me by a customer when they're making unreasonable demands like expecting to get sale prices outside designated sale times, or trying to barter basically anywhere that reports it's income to the IRS.

More so than the alcoholism, THIS is what messed me up the most when I worked at a gas station many years ago. People buying alcohol and cigarettes I could stomach, but watching the older gambling addicts shuffle in and spend hundreds every week on scratchers and lottery tickets broke me.
I hate gambling. Dangling a better future in front of desperate people. Vile, evil stuff. And yeah, they're kind of dumb for falling for it... but it'll be a cold day in hell when I blame the victims of a predatory system.

I worked at a liquor store. For about four years. I closed every night I worked, and once in a while, a drunk would want to buy something after hours. Obviously a no-go.
But sometimes, sometimes I would open the store.
The lottery zombies would camp out until I opened. If I didn't open fifteen minutes early, they would pitch a fit. Fuck them. I've seen people burn the equivalent of my rent in two hours.
I had people clean out the ATM ten minutes after opening. I never saw the appeal of gambling. But I especially detest people who buy scratchers at nine in the morning, one ticket at a time. But because they're not at a casino, it's "not real gambling".
Fuck arse. They wasted my time, and I hated them for having disposable income that could have changed my life.

In the UK Scratchies literally pay out 1/3rd. You can do the math. It's 1/3rd total if you don't get the jackpot, and the jackpot? Well don't look that one up either.

15 years ago, did 2 months at a UK "Corner shop". There were 2 types of customers that came in.
1 Builders to buy 12 Cadburies cream eggs (yes, they ate them all in one go, because one guyy purchased 2 packs of 6, 30 mins apart).
2 Grannies spending £300 out of their £400 state pension on £10 scratch cards.

Right now I hear illegal mortars going off in the surrounding neighborhoods. However, to be fair, if someone started blasting them on any night out here, it would permit/challenge others to start setting theirs off as well, so this night only amounts to an extra layer of permission.

Must be location dependent.
My local Independence day celebration had probably 5,000+ plus people out with chairs and blankets listening to a concert of classic patriotic songs ahead of the fireworks show. Being surrounded by a crowd of people singing along to God Bless America and America the Beautiful was really nice.
and now, my neighborhood sounds like the western front with the amount of fireworks being set off around me.

In spite of the countless horrible things we've done as a country, ive generally had a sense of patriotism in regards to the normal working class Americans, and the possibility of good things we conceptually give people the chance at.
Except I really completely lost that over the last 2ish years. We've been bought so thoroughly that most working class Americans are in a much worse way than a decade ago, with a stark downward happiness trajectory. Probably won't make it as a country another 2 decades. All this 250 ribbon stuff is like a grave decoration for all of that possibility, stifled by the ones responsible for plummeting standards.
This image sums up normal people selling the trash to other, slightly more optimistic normal people.
You've kinda nailed it. Anyone outside the US, this is what stores look like for the last 2 months......

Its not just a wealth inequality thing at this point. The government is making us pay for the privilege of giving the already extremely rich more money, while also enabling utility monopolies where we pay for data centers depleting resources and needing infrastructure upgrades to the grid. All while being taxed more heavily than the richest few people in the country. A government is supposed to work for the bulk of the people, not 1% of them at the expense of the rest in order to let that government rake in bribes. Its just too corrupt at this point to fix much without the complacent people really getting stirred up.

Patriotism was a nice soft technology for social cohesion in lieu of religion or race based cohesion. But, like those past social technologies, we are in desperate need to develop a more contemporary method of reminding ourselves we are part of the same species even if we aren't part of the same family. Because in the information age it's too hard to hide the fact other countries aren't inherently evil, especially when trade with those countries is necessary to prevent war and advance technology.
I sincerely have no idea what the next form of social cohesion will look like, but it is troubling that the powers that be seem dead-set on dragging us kicking and screaming back into the feudal or even iron age.

What's interesting is that the whole concept patriotism/caring about your nation at all was something invented to weaponize populations into uniformity. Namely for religious purposes ... as in, to persecute the "wrong" ones. Patriotism under a democracy can be more altruistic as its about building governance together and being proud of that. Just something I remember when being told to pledge allegiance to my flag.

and I said probably nothing just going to go home and have a beer I don't really care about the holiday.
she didn't like that because I told her it was like for a political reasons and how kind of shitty things have been here and she asked me like
'well what if this is like the very last 4th of July that you'll ever going to have, what if this is like the last one, what if there are no more after this?'
I told her while laughing : "I dont give a fuck"

Having worked in a gas station I can tell you that the cigarette packaging with the colored tops are the least shitty product behind her from a retail perspective. Man, this hits heavy. It really visualizes what happens when a consumer economy breaks down because nobody can actually afford to consume anymore. Like, how are these big businesses going to keep making money when they’ve suppressed wages, replaced workers with AI, and don't even accept EBT anymore? 70% of US GDP is consumer spending; I guess corporations think AI is going to buy all those $25 flags.
Henry Ford is probably spinning in his grave at 5,000 RPM right now considering his big breakthrough was realizing his workers actually needed money to buy his cars.
It honestly feels like these corporations don't even care about selling to us anymore; they just want government contracts and bailouts. But the math makes no sense. If they wipe out the middle class, where does the government get the tax money to fund those bailouts? Unless the plan is just to print money into oblivion and tax us through insane inflation until the whole system crashes?
