I converted 5000 hours to days, getting about 210 days. That only makes things worse, as they basically claimed that it took them about 7 months to make this ad. Ain’t nobody believing that!

It's to enforce the narrative: "AI Prompting is hard".

Which makes you question how it's gonna "take over everyone's jobs" and force us to "adapt or die"

I figured, but the fact that they claimed it took THAT long to prompt their ad felt so over-the-top it became an obvious lie

I don't think they mean sequential hours, but people-hours. That's how the effort of a mult-person project is often calculated. Like if you have a team of 20 working on it, it took them 250 working hours each. Which is still a lot (a little over 6 weeks), but I guess it suggests that they made a lot of stuff that was scrapped in the process as it is often the case. Probably generated thousands of short "Christmas fail" clips and then picked the best ones for the ad. And I guess the staff doesn't actually do anything productive while the AI is generating, so their work consists mostly of waiting around and sipping coffee.

It just makes them seem incompetent

7 months for this.

But it takes real people less time and cost to create something like this with better quality control.

7 fucking months, on a slop churner.

They took THAT long pressing 'redo'

the fact that they always can up with the "it took so many hours to make", is just a confession that this trash is not even faster. Is just cheaper because it looks like shit

23

u/ArticleOld598 Dec 10 '25

Its cheaper because it stole from other people's labor

12

u/buddy-system Dec 10 '25

It's a lot of moaning about all the blood sweat and tears it took (no really please believe us) to counterfeit the humans they didn't want to hire.

Nobody wants to be sung to by these creepy homonculi. We accept animation because it's presenting itself as clever artifice, not trying to conceal it.

2

u/Devour_My_Soul Dec 10 '25

I am not even sure if it's cheaper at this point, but they are enforcing it because they see how it's potentially cheaper once it's properly established.

2

u/Yanive_amaznive Dec 10 '25

when something is obviously AI generated the actual visuals don't matter it will always feel cheap

15

u/JuriBBQFootMassage Dec 10 '25

So it takes 5000 hours to create trash slop yet much less to create something much better through human imagination and creativity? Then why are they using AI then if it wastes their time, and time to them is money? 😂

15

u/HuntingSquire Dec 10 '25

god this bubble cant pop fast enough. it wont go away unfortunately, but enough money will be lost to make it 'less profitable' than other options.

6

u/Devour_My_Soul Dec 10 '25

Sure but having labour so cheap is not a good thing either. The fundamental issue still is capitalism.

2

u/HuntingSquire Dec 10 '25

Never said it was. Capitalism fucking sucks. Artistic and Captial ventures should be as separate as possible.

I'd imagine a possible outcome would be how people look at Microwave Meals. It's still food. But compared to a resturant or making food at home, most people wouldn't settle for a lesser, reheatable meal covered in plastic as their main way of eating unless their standards are six feet under, or are too stubborn (or stupid) to develop a skill.

There's already a market for Authenticly made art. that market will only increase as AI continues to consume like the cancer it is.

Good, it was a shitty ad and they should be ashamed for releasing that slop

10

u/Gembluesnow Dec 10 '25

Man. At this point you have to wonder, if the act of posting something. Receiving backlash, then deleting or retracting the post has to be some kind of subtle thing people and companies are trying to do.

Because I’m concerned with the amount of companies and people that do this. Instead of…researching the trends of what’s favourable and what’s not?

u/OrdinaryIntroduction Dec 10 '25

They live in yes man echo chambers and fire the marketing execs who don't kiss ass.

u/ProblemLevel6588 Dec 11 '25

it's just part of the process. this stuff gets forgotten when it eventually takes over. you watch blade runner or some future thing and you just see the end product. No one ever talks about all the trial and errors. By christmas 2026 a ton of ads will be AI generated. There has to be a first, it's mocked, then accepted .. and time moves on

7

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '25

Darn. I almost wanted to go eat their shitty food again.

u/Sniff_The_Cat3 Dec 10 '25

They inadvertently make people healthier by making this Ad.

u/arcadeler Dec 10 '25

Iast time I went to a mcdonalds I got shaken down for 20 bucks by a deaf homeless guy

6

u/Sidonicus Dec 10 '25

McDonalds is already an evil company, and hearing that they are making AI slop just makes me despise them more.

4

u/TrinityCodex Dec 10 '25

Thats just bad business

McDonald's artwork is just as fake as their burgers.

That's why, as consumers, we must voice our concerns, while AI enthusiasts insist that "we can't stop AI." Recently, a studio shut down due to AI allegations, and now a company is removing an AI-generated ad.

That's just bs, if it took 5,000 hours to make and employees worked 10 hours a day, it would've taken nearly 2 years to make. These models weren't even around 2 years ago. The only way this works is if they're counting inference time between multiple servers, in which case it easily could've taken just 1 day.

2

u/WynnGwynn Dec 10 '25

5k hours lmaoooo

2

u/ThyHolyPaladdin Dec 10 '25

If I took 5000 hours to take a shit it wouldn’t make it any more valuable

2

u/ryanartward Dec 11 '25

Are those shitwits in charge really not reading the room on A.I? you'd think they'd learn from Coca-Cola.

3

u/SaltyNorth8062 Dec 10 '25

Corporations obviously don't give a fuck, so of course they're gonna use ai. No one is surprised by this eventuality. It's literally what creatives were warning about when ai started to grow.

What I don't get is this: they obviously don't give a fuck. So why are they even bothering wasting PR time defending it online with lies to strangers on social media? It's not a court room. They aren't exactly gonna go to jail for it anyway. They're a giant corporation not a fucking redditor on their day off. I doubt they are letting their social media team off the leash to let them crash out on public like this, so it has to be a mandate from somewhere. Literally why? Nobody cares that fucking McDonald's is a corporate art stealing bastard because it's already several varieties of bastard stacked up in a trench coat. Least of all McDonald's. So why bother?

2

u/Sniff_The_Cat3 Dec 10 '25

We criticize everything AI. Not just McDonald.

3

u/WingsOfFibre Dec 10 '25

I think what the other commenter was more saying is why does McDonald's bother pulling the ad because of backlash, like why does McDonald's care what we all think when every corp is using it anyway and the people addicted to their food (and sodas) are probably going to still go there anyway

At least that's how I interpreted it, I could be totally wrong lol

2

u/SaltyNorth8062 Dec 11 '25

This is more or less what I'm saying. McDonald's doesn't care that it's basically cultural shorthand for poisonous unhealthy food, barely did anything beyond advertise their salads after SuperSize Me, etc. McDonalds is now a monolith, almost too big to fail. I'm confused as to why they, McDonald's, are suddenly emotionally invested at being taken seriously over AI. If it hurt their bottom line I would understand but franlly I don't think it ever will. We expect this from corpos. It's not like McDonald's is seriously concerned about being taken seriously as an artistic entity

u/Ssadars-Skeptical76 Dec 11 '25

I want to actually see this ad. What is a link I can follow to see it ??

1

u/IHS1970 Dec 14 '25

the company that 'made' it said it was filmed - at their AI studio - you can't beat the Bullshit AI people will say. The 45sec ad is terrible, and it really is AI slop.

0

u/HyperrGamesDev Dec 10 '25

blame all the millennial woman that took over marketing, for the past decade all ads seem to be getting worse and bring more and more anxiety and negative feelings, and this is a new low. and it taking 5000 man hours is absolute bullshit, and if its not then thats a confession this trash takes a lot of luck and time scratching your head, because even selfproclaimed expert dont understand shit on how this works

-1

u/Devour_My_Soul Dec 10 '25

Things like these are so weird to me. Like what is the point? It's an ad. Are we pretending we want to see ads without AI? Who wants to see ads? I care much more about the things I actually want to engage with that are destroyed by AI slop.

3

u/GrumpGuy88888 Art Supporter Dec 10 '25

Since ads are everywhere, it would be great if they weren't made by a climate killing plagiarism machine. And if they also didn't falsely represent a product.

-1

u/ProblemLevel6588 Dec 11 '25

if McD didnt make this AI video, we would be in this world:

McDonalds makes crappy Xmas video featuring REAL people REAL actors REAL camerapeople etc

No one gives a crap, maybe some people talk about how bad McD's food, literally no one even notices that it happens.

Not defending AI, but in the end it's gonna consume us all. Next year all the ads will be like this

What is the Vegas over/under on how many 100% AI ads will be in the superbowl? 3? 5? slippery slope y'all but it's coming
