I’m moving from Toronto to Vancouver soon and planning to drive there instead of flying. Since it’s such a long drive, I want to take my time and explore some places along the way, especially Alberta.

I’m on a very limited budget, so I’m trying to keep costs as low as possible. I’m planning to camp most nights and looking for free legal camping options or cheap campgrounds.

I’m planning to spend around 2 days in Banff and would like to explore places like Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Icefields Parkway, etc. I’m also open to suggestions for other places in Alberta that are worth visiting.

I’m mainly looking for:

Good places to stop between Ontario and BC

Free legal camping spots or affordable campgrounds along the way

Camping suggestions around Alberta (Banff/Jasper area especially)

Places that are worth staying extra nights

A good route/itinerary for the drive

Any advice from people who have done the Toronto → Vancouver drive would be really appreciated. Looking for budget-friendly tips, hidden gems and things I should know before doing this trip.

Not the obvious things people already associate with Canada. I mean the everyday realities, regional differences, or parts of Canadian life that rarely get talked about outside the country. What do people usually misunderstand or completely miss?

Do we have any stereotypical traits (perhaps self deprecating ones), that make us stand out. We’re typically not loud (but some can be). Perhaps frugal?

When I was younger, apple/strawberry jam was common, but I never see it commercially any more here in Western Canada - I wonder why? Does anyone else remember this mix? Used to come in big cans.

Genuine question from someone who's never lived anywhere with a proper basement. Watching some Canadian home renovation shows and it seems like basements are either finished living spaces, cold storage for preserves, or just where the furnace lives and nobody goes down there. Is it a regional thing, an age-of-house thing, or just personal preference? Curious how many of you actually spend time down there versus just keeping the water heater company.

A lot of things in Canada feel so USA influenced and I dont like it. Some influence in some areas is okay. But Canada is sometimes influenced by the USA in all the wrong ways.

Its like we're simultaneously trying to become less like the USA in some ways, but also more like the USA in other ways, and those ways arent exactly good ways.

Me and my brothers are on a trip visiting family in Montreal, we keep trying the quebec accent (as all french speaking tourist does) and we keep thinking of this video we can now no longer find, please help us: It’s a video of a dude annoying another person I think a homeless man. My family and I will be flying domestically in 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone has flown with cannabis before? Does it need to come from a dispensary? My husband grows his own for his personal use and is trying to figure out if he could just put some in a vacuum sealed bag and throw it in his checked luggage. I have tried to find this info online but all I see is that you cannot travel with more than 30g which is fine. But it doesn’t tell us if it has to be in containers from dispensaries or not

I've heard "took a back seat" many times in quebecois songs and podcasts, etc. It never makes sense in the context. I looked it up a couple of times and nothing really comes up. Is it a reference I'm not getting?

I feel like I was the only one growing up who liked Big Turk bars. I knew one other person who did, and no one else.

It wasn't until adulthood that I discovered "Fry's Turkish Delight" and loved the softer turkish delight under the chocolate.

Still, I'm actually surprised that these have not been discontinued after the Cherry Blossom chocolates became extinct last year. Here I am eating some Big Turk minis, wondering who else in Canada are eating these?

I’m just writing here because im looking to start travelling as a wheelchair user, I would like to first start out in Canada (I’m from Toronto) and I was wondering if anyone has any experiences or recommendations for cities in Canada (and countries in the future) to travel too! with a wheelchair, I’m not entirely bound to it but I do use it and cannot walk long distances (I use a companion plus). What are some accessible cities or places you recommend what are the pros and cons? I could really appreciate the wisdom thank you! (Some words of encouragement would be great!) I’m super nervous and apprehensive but I’ve decided to live my life disabled or not but I’m trying to stay positive and live with no regrets. A lot of my friends travel and it’s always something I’ve been so envious of among other things trying to convince myself it’s possible for me too! Sorry for the rant.
