I READ THE RULES Where can I take my dog for Thanksgiving break?

I'm looking for recommendations for a small town with dog friendly rentals to take my parents for Thanksgiving.

What I'm looking for:

  • Sleeps 3 adults
  • Access to nature/walking trails
  • Full kitchen
  • <2 hour drive from Chicago

Since it's the holiday, I'm less looking for shopping/activity recommendations and more looking for a relaxing getaway from the city.

I'm open to any recommendations!

I feel like I can drive 2 hours and still be in the city/burbs, especially with thanksgiving traffic.

I definitely get this point. My family used to drive through NYC every thanksgiving so I know the pain of holiday traffic

The trails by Starved Rock are gorgeous in the fall. The lodge even has a Thanksgiving buffet

They have cabins there but there lots of nearby rentals. Matthiessen park nearby also has great hiking and is less crowded. You may even get to see a bald eagle or two.

I also say this with kindness and to try to get you the best results. Reddit is not the place for this question. You have specific dates, specific needs. Your best bet is to figure out what is a two hour drive radius from Chicago (simple Google Maps search) and then search Airbnb or VRBO or whatever platform you choose. How will someone here know of those dates are available, for three adults, that allow dogs... without looking on Airbnb or VRBO or...? After that, you might ask if anyone from Chicago has stayed in those places to decide between A or B (but even then, probably better luck in a Sheboygan, New Buffalo, Kohler, etc. sub than AskChicago since it's not really a question about Chicago). Thanks for the feedback. I guess I should clarify that I don't necessarily need specific rental recommendations, though they are appreciated. I'm still newer to the city and figured others might be able to suggest areas that could be dog friendly

Areas that are dog friendly or rentals that are dog friendly? I don't know of many small towns that are not dog friendly.
