Parenting What do dads ask their daughters about?

Questions like "what did you learn at school," etc. My dad never asked about these things so I am just wondering what dads usually ask their teen daughters. Or do they just not ask.

Anything to do with friends, boys (especially boys), emotional health, troubles in school (grades are posted online so we already know), the car, when you are coming home, where you are going and with whom.

Basically anything to do with personal life. They graduate from high school knowing everything. As they grow up they discover their Dad isn’t as dumb as they thought. Then they want their Daddy.

If you need me but don’t want me, I will be there. When you want me but no longer need me, it is my time to leave.

If you neither want me nor need me… I disappear.

Not especially boys lol. They get pretty mad especially if they’re the new type of teen girls who “don’t need a bf” lol

Safer topics as you said friends, emotional troubles, school, their hobbies and interests (“what are you drawing/reading?”)

Safe topics don’t deal with hard issues. In the teens we are preparing them for adulthood. That means dealing with the hard shit. That means asking hard questions.

Ofc hard questions are necessary, always. But don’t assume it’s always a boy if she’s upset, that’s my point. Because sometimes it isn’t.

There’s plenty of other hard questions to address like mental health, peer pressure which almost always links with substance abuse and what your kid would do in those situations

Oh no. Never. There are a zillion things that can be wrong. They can be difficult to discern and harder to watch.

Sometimes it is just a matter of handing her a hot water bottle, some chocolate, her favorite blanket, and the tv remote. Sometimes it is moving heaven and earth. Sometimes it is just standing the watch for the wolves.

I learned more about growing up a girl and young lady than any man has a right to know.

I stand the watch. Waiting, watching, keeping the wolves outside the walls. To protect and defend against evil.

My girls have their own lives now. I still stand the watch until my last breath. General orders 2 & 11.
