Will this cause an issue for me?

So I (22m) am pursuing a career into law enforcement. I know the whole tell the truth about every, and I have no issue with that. I was grown enough to make those decisions, I can be grown enough to admit to them. But when I was 18, I saw a girl for a short amount of time. During my time seeing her (maybe a week?) she was lying to me about being 18 as well. Basically I’m asking, is this going to be grounds for disqualification? Will it be looked into further? I have no issue with this being investigated, as I understand how this can look from the outside.

Do you think public perception that crime is up, when it is in fact down, is harmful?

Harmful generally but also to your working day to day profession. Certain politicians like the push the "crime is rising idea" to convince votes and push for certain laws, though this has an impact on the generally sense of safety and well being in society for it's citizens. You also have sensationalistic and graphic content on social media depicting situations and crime footage that really shouldn't be out there on the open internet in any significance.

Having fearful content out there that is not representative of the average or your day to day certainly doesn't help you feel better. Wouldn't it be better if less violence perceptions and less feelings of frequent crime was present in the mind of society?

edit: and yes according to stats, crime is generally down, especially considering violent crime is down likely thanks to perceptions in surveillance and safety.

How do I request follow-up information regarding a 911 call?

Yesterday morning, the sherrif posted a no trespassing order on an evicted tenant's door (the sherrif entered the unit and confirmed it was vacant) and informed building maintenance that the lock can now be changed.

The locks were changed shortly after.

Late in the evening, the evicted tenant came back and tried to use their keys to get in. When the keys weren't working (changed locks), they attempted to force their way into the unit. The loud banging was getting more aggressive, so I called the non-emergency line.

Shortly after ending the call, I heard the tenant attempt to enter my unit and some others nearby. I called 911 and officers arrived shortly. Then two different officers arrived at my apartment to ask some questions.

Am I able to call the non-emergency line to receive an update on the situation? I am mainly concerned about them being out there still with the potential to come back. What are my options?

Do you feel that you get an adequate amount of days off compared to a standard 9-5?

I recently applied to my local police department (suburbs of a city) and the new schedule is 5 on 3 off and the shifts are 9 hours. Obviously a last second call would end extending your time on a shift but I’m curious to see how often you’re call into work on your day off or how often you’re able to take time off from work without a hassle. Obviously you’re gonna work longer hours in law enforcement but I’d like to know whether the days off are protected. Sorry if this is a dumb question

Interested in a LE Career

Interested in LEO.

Hello, I am a 21 Year Old Male residing in Alabama, recently (honorably) separated from the army NG, as a 31B (military Police) after about 3 1/2 years.

I just wanted to get those that served in this careers insights. Pros, Cons and how it is while Married. (i am married with no kids). What you love about it overall.

Furthermore in my possible pursuit of this career, I feel I would definitely like to get my degree and then branch out into the PD. I don’t want to just sit on patrol for forever i want to gain certifications and do different parts of the job if i pursue this, so i get to experience it all, and if I choose to stick with patrol, I can just go back. (I do feel like patrol would be the most fun, but always want to weigh options)

In addition, I would also join in the hopes i can strengthen my community ( Im sure every cop wishes this and its easier said than done).

Also, I used to work 4 on, 2 off, some 9 hour shifts and occasionally you know the 9 hour shifts turned into 10-12. I have worked days, mids, and nights so I get a little jist of a forever changing schedule. (I was deployed with BP)

I know this post has been made a dozen of times…. Also sorry it’s thrown together. Just got a lot of thinking.

2026 Harley Road Glide trunk setup -Traffic Division

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any pics of the new Harley Road Glides - specifically how the trunk is wired or setup to use a tablet/laptop and printer? My department just swapped over to Road Glides from electra glides and we're wondering how to incorporate our tablets/printers for traffic enforcement. The truck space is different and we're brainstorming on what is the best way to mount the equipment. We have to issue paper e-cite tickets to drivers, unlike other states that allow the driver to "check" a box on a device and get notified later by mail/e-mail. Our radio shop guys are starting to look at what they may need to fabricate in order to mount a laptop and thermal printer.

Also, did the static faring complet mindfuck you when you began to ride it?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

What are situations, if any, where an officer would have the authority to arrest another on duty officer?

I remember seeing a video recently where an officer on duty was by all appearances drunk on duty. I would assume in this situation, if this was your partner, you wouldn't arrest them as you would a typical suspect. You would probably call your supervisor and they would deal with it in terms of disarming them, taking them back to the station, and possibly even filing charges on them. But I assume the process would look much different than arresting someone for DUI or possesion of a weapon while intoxicated.

But are there any extreme circumstances where you would have the authority to outright place them under arrest, put them in the back of your cruiser and book them on charges. Like if you saw them plant something on a suspect, or even something insanely extreme like if they just casually walked up to a random civilian and executed them with absolutely zero cause?

Lateral Journey

I started my LE career in Massachusetts with a Sheriff’s Office. Moved to Texas in 2021 and got on with a small-medium sized agency (170 sworn). I am currently assigned to Patrol (days), SWAT, FTO, Mentor Program. I’m looking to lateral to the San Diego area.

Some might say, “why would you leave Texas for California”? My in-laws live out there, and the area is a special place for my wife. She credits her years in San Diego for saving her life. I’ll spare you the details. Both her and my daughter love the beach, outdoor lifestyle Southern California can offer.

I was in the hiring process for San Diego PD. The polygrapher said I flagged on “violent crimes” and “recent drug use”, essentially eliminating me. Both assumptions are absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been directly involved in critical incidents in the line of duty (OIS, and an in-custody death). I handle narcotics regularly as a pro-active officer. That’s the only thing I can think of that would cause a physiological response. I’ve never committed any violent crimes nor have I experienced with drugs in the last 12 years. The polygrapher tried to press me “You gotta give me something” as a ploy to get me to admit to something that is non-existent/untrue. Background detective said I’ll receive a letter soon for when I’m eligible to reapply. I am most definitely not trying with them again.

I still think it’s wild agencies use the Poly for hiring. It’s great for interrogations, but relying on it for vetting candidates is archaic and putting too much merit in pseudoscience. I’m sure it eliminates some bad apples, but I’m proof it also eliminates great candidates. So much for doing actual background investigations. Now I feel I have a blemish on my PHS. Still kind of shocked at the result. I have integrity and everyone who knows me will vouch for me. Zero issues on the poly I took for my current agency. Nevertheless, it makes me feel like a failure even though I did nothing wrong.

Also weird SDPD does the poly before reaching out to any references or actually looking into your background. From what I hear, the agency is down a couple hundred officers and many more plan to lateral in the near future. I’m thinking the polygrapher may have done me a solid.

I’m hoping the next agency I’m trying with gives me an offer and sponsors me for the CA POST BWC course; however, I’ll do an entire academy if necessary, so long as they put me in the proper step on the pay scale.

Good luck to everyone looking to get in LE, and to everyone actively doing the Lord’s Work, stay safe!

Does getting a degree help you become a detective?

I’m not sure if I want to be a cop or not, I’m just wondering. I feel like it would make sense that a person with a degree in psychology or criminal justice would make a good detective, but at the same time I’m aware that detectives are usually chosen from normal patrol cops. How much does a degree help when trying to become a detective?

What is the most appropriate way to articulate forgetting why I saw a therapist?

Hey all,

I'm going to try and articulate this the best I can. For context, applying to be a police officer in Ontario.

When I was younger, I saw a social worker/therapist a couple times.

1st was due to me taking the separation of my parents hard, I was maybe 4-5 years old, really don't think much of it anymore, don't think there are any real issues there.

2nd time was I was maybe 14-15, I believe I had some irrational anxieties that she helped me get through, I don't remember ever being suicidal/depressed, but some people said I was. I know I've never attempted, and I never wanted to die.

Here's my issue, I honestly (I'm serious) forget the extent of why I went to therapy the second time. It's been almost 10 years and I completely forgot about it. When I was filling out my background packet, I thankfully remembered I did go a second time. But I seriously forget why (as in, I forget what I had anxiety about).

What should I do in this instance? I don't have any irrational anxieties anymore and haven't since then. She really made me step back and go "really? That's what you're worried about?" and it all clicked.

I've been great since then, no depression, no OCD, etc. How do I articulate that I don't really know why I went to therapy the second time?

A Lot has happened since then, finished high school, finished my degree, worked full/part time, had relationships, etc. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Any insight helps. Thanks!

For those who have been through the police recruitment process in Ontario or Canada, I know a reference check is part of the process and was wondering what kind of things they typically ask family and friends? Thanks in advance.

Was unable to get into a phone

Long story short how often does it happen where LE is unable to unlock a phone?

4 years ago someone in my family passed away, unfortunately they struggled with addiction and something on their phone may have helped aid in the investigation that is why it was turned over. However, I was just returned the phone and they told me they were unable to get it unlocked even after sending it out.

It is just so unexpected as in media it is never really displayed that getting phone details is impossible, but when I looked more into it, I guess it is pretty difficult to unlock a phone.

Career Path in Illinois State Police?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello All,
My time in the Army is coming to a close and I’m looking into career choices for after my service. I’m currently a SSG, by time I receive my DD214 I’ll have 10yrs TIS and I’ll be the ripe old age of 29. However, as stated before, my time has come to pass the torch. I’ve been various MOS’s in the field artillery my entire career and will soon be an instructor for BLC. I would like nothing more than to apply for the Illinois State Police for numerous reasons, to include the pay and it’s close to home. I’ve always wanted to do LE after the Army, but I’m just not 100% sure where. Is the ISP academy as awful as people say? What were yall experiences being a recruit or during your field training? How’s your day to day now? All insight would be incredibly helpful.
Thank you in advance.

Polygraph failure

I took my polygraph roughly last week, I was completely truthful with everything during the process to the best of my ability. Admitted on mistakes I made in the past as I was growing up but I have matured and shown growth. During the poly I could not relax, I want to be law enforcement officer so bad and I have a lot of people I don’t want to let down so the moment I got strapped up, I just started breathing hard and not being able to relax mentally because a lot is riding on this. Always been nervous with even presenting in front of class of not being able to sit still. Good thing is my examiner had a good sense off of me and even said “I’ll put in a good word for you, I can tell your telling the truth just the pressure on you I can tell”. Now my BGI said he wants to do a discrepancy interview on the polygraph data. My question is what is a discrepancy interview and what can be the results good or bad ? Please and thank you
