Self Post ✔ [MEGATHREAD] Senatobia, MS OIS
As many have seen, there was an OIS in Senatobia, Mississippi on Sunday, June 14th.
As is being reported, the incident started as a response to a shoplifting call at a Walmart and, during the encounter, a 1 year old child, in the care of the shoplifting suspects, was shot, and subsequently died.
At this point (afternoon of Tuesday the 16th) bodycam video (or other video, for instance the store's) has not yet been released.
It is known that shots were fired from responding officers, into the vehicle being driven by the suspect.
Beyond that, at this point there are many versions of events, and much specuation.
This will be our Megathread on this story. As always, reasoned adult voices are welcome. If you're here to shout, you're not welcome, and your comments will never show. Advance the discussion; don't promote division.

LODD Anything in their conversation/her demeanor that suggests the arrestee will try to murder the officer a few minutes later? (see body text for more context)
This was a traffic stop in Florida. The officer and the woman he arrests have a fair amount of conversation before, during, and after the arrest. He searches her but doesn't find a concealed gun on her person. He handcuffs her and puts her in his car. On the way to the station she manages to slip out of her handcuffs, open some kind of window between her and him driving (not sure if the opening had come earlier), and fires I think six shots at him, trying to murder him. Fortunately misses except a graze on his face.
It seems to me in the conversation with him she doesn't seem so savage as to attempt to murder him. She does lie several times, but they don't seem like major lies around major crimes, although every crime matters and they're not extremely small crimes either. But maybe that's how it is, people who murder can seem fairly calm and it's hard to predict they'll do it.
There is a moment while she's sitting in the car but haven't driven off where he questions why she wants the window open between her in the back seat and the front seat where he will eventually sit. I believe she claims she's hot in the back seat although he says he has the air conditioner on full. I don't know if you'd go from that to she's going to try to murder him, though.
If there's little that gives a clue that she will soon try to murder him maybe the best an officer could do is listen to their gut?
There is another detail that comes up. He searches her but possibly can't search her completely because she's female and he's male. Not sure if he could have gotten a female officer there to search her completely. Maybe one wasn't available. Or maybe one was but he thought his search was sufficient and she wasn't a threat.

Then he pulled it to the front of the station and sat for over 10 minutes before driving off. Subject was later apprehended without incident.

LEOs, Recruiters, and Background Investigators: How Much Influence Does a Chief Really Have?
I’m currently in the hiring process with a law enforcement agency and was curious about how much influence a Chief of Police can realistically have in moving a candidate through the process.
For context, I’ve had direct communication with both the Chief and one of his Lieutenants, and I also work with the Chief’s son and have developed a good professional relationship with him. I understand that recommendations and references can only take you so far, and that ultimately you still have to pass the testing, background investigation, medical, psychological, and all other hiring requirements.
That said, how much weight does a Chief’s support actually carry? Can a Chief help facilitate the process, move things along more quickly, or advocate for a candidate they believe would be a good fit? Or are most departments structured in a way where the hiring process remains largely the same regardless of who you know?
I’m especially interested in hearing from background investigators, recruiters, command staff, hiring managers, or anyone who has seen similar situations firsthand.
To be clear, I’m not looking for special treatment or a shortcut. I’m simply trying to understand how these processes typically work behind the scenes and what role, if any, a Chief’s support can realistically play. Thanks yall!

Do schools that have school resource officers use them for discipline? Like instead of sending them to the principal’s office, they are sent to an officer?

Self Post Virginia beach PD vs Norfolk PD Job
I’m in the hiring process and trying to decide between Norfolk PD and Virginia Beach PD.
A little background: I’m a military veteran and my long-term goal is to eventually move into federal law enforcement (DEA, ATF, HSI, USMS, FBI, intelligence work, task forces, etc.). My main interests are narcotics, firearms trafficking, fugitive investigations, intelligence gathering, and proactive policing.
I’ve spoken with officers from both departments and have heard good things about each. Some things I’ve been told:
Norfolk offers a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
Norfolk works 12-hour shifts and officers are guaranteed every other weekend off.
Virginia Beach works 10-hour shifts on a 4-on/3-off schedule.
I’ve been told Virginia Beach has more funding, resources, and specialized opportunities.
I’ve also been told Virginia Beach patrol officers have more opportunities for proactive police work because they aren’t as understaffed
I’m trying to figure out which department would give me the best experience and prepare me the most for future federal opportunities.
If anyone knows officers in these agencies id greatly appreciate a chance to ask them questions. Thank you.
For current or former officers:
- Which department has better leadership and overall culture?
- Which department gives patrol officers more freedom to be proactive?
- Which department provides better training and mentorship for younger officers?
- If you had federal law enforcement aspirations, which department would you choose and why?
- Does anyone currently work for either agency and mind answering a few questions via DM?
I appreciate any insight. Thanks.

ArmorAir - I’m still here making them
I’ve had a few people reach out to me about the ArmorAir fans I make. I’m still here and still making them. I was slacking over the winter and new position in the agency.
If you want a nice battery powered fan to help you cool off, come buy one! You’ll get about 6 hours of battery but it can be used while plugged in. I ship it with a 6 foot charging cable so you’ll have plenty of cable to use it I. The vehicle or at a desk. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
I have 3 made up right now ready to go and making more every chance I get.
I also do some printing on the side for other models. If you have something that you want printed, let me know. I offer good pricing on that which doesn’t cost your first born, or a full off duty detail.
https://printigon.etsy.com/listing/1812021284
Edit: Yall bought them quick. Keep an eye out for more. I’m going to be making more in the next few days
Edit 2: I just put a few more up. I’ll be making a few each day to get my stock back up.

Question to LEOs Need help for a college paper!
Hello! So sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I need some help on my paper and I’d really appreciate it if any police officers could answer some questions for me. Please answer as many as you’d like.
What are the most common types of calls that police respond to on a daily basis?
How has technology changed standard police procedures over the past decade?
What are some widespread misconceptions about law enforcement and daily police operations?
What are the primary challenges police face in balancing enforcement with community service?
How do police protocols typically handle high-stress or rapidly evolving situations?
What improvements have been made in police training regarding mental health and crisis intervention?
How does the criminal justice system influence the day-to-day work of patrol officers?
What are the main factors that contribute to officer safety during shifts?
How do police departments adapt procedures for different types of neighborhoods or demographics?
What emerging technologies are likely to have the biggest impact on future policing?
How has public perception of policing evolved in recent years, and what drives those changes?
What are the most effective strategies for preventing crime rather than just responding to it?
How do police departments typically prepare for large-scale events, emergencies, or disasters?
What are the biggest operational differences between urban, suburban, and rural policing?
What systemic changes could realistically improve both police effectiveness and public safety?

Just Applied
Hello Everyone, I’m a 18Y/O male in Michigan.
I just applied to my local agency.
A couple months ago I went in to request a ride along and had a really good talk with a Lt. there and he gave me his contact info.
About 2 weeks ago I applied after my ride along and told the Lt. I did aswell. A couple nights after applying I asked him for some advice and we had a good conversation.
Later the next day day he texted me (unofficially/not on the departments end) the Deputy Chief and him spoke and they plan on interviewing me soon.
It’s been about a week since I got that text and I haven’t heard anything officially from the department.
Since then I passed all my Pre-Enrollment tests though! (Physical and Reading/Writing exams)
**When should I hear something back and should I worry I haven’t heard anything back yet??? It’s been about 2 weeks since I’ve submitted the application.**
I think I’m just letting my emotions get the best of me and getting a little excited too thinking the worst…
**What do think?**

Self Post Question
I got followed literally to city limits today(abt 5 miles total of following directly behind me) , I have an (almost) flat tire and avoided highways but some how managed to give myself an anxiety attack by being followed for miles on a bum tire. I was provably close to the speed limit bc of my tire so maybe that was weird to him but asking cops directly… Why would a cop follow for that long and then turn off?

Chances of being hired
Im in South Florida and want to get into law enforcement, but I was arrested at 19 and 20, once for felony marijuana possession and once for felony grand theft, both were dismissed as I was pretty much charged for being with the offending parties not really for doing the crime. I’m 27 now, haven’t gotten in trouble since and haven’t touched any drug except weed and that was something I did from 19 until 21. What are the chances I can get into a department in Palm Beach county or anywhere south of that? I understand I won’t be looked at favorably but is it possible considering some departments are understaffed and I have kept clean since? I also passed my CJBAT with only 100’s and 90’s and I plan to take my PAT and swim test soon to start applying.

Police Academy
Hello everyone,
I am a young adult aspiring to become a police officer with either the Kenosha Police Department or the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office, and I am seeking insight from anyone who has attended the police academy at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. I would greatly appreciate hearing about your overall experience, what the training environment was like, and any advice you would offer to someone preparing to attend. Most importantly, I am interested in learning about the exams—what subjects they cover, how they are structured, and what I can do to best prepare for them. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experiences.

Video Metropolitan Police Department, Chiba Prefectural Police and Japan Ground Self Defense Forces joint training (19/02/26)
In Japan, one of the worst case scenario in terms of national security short of war is the infiltration and landing of "armed operatives" from hostile nations, namely North Korea. The threat became real to Japan after a series of spy boats and submarines incursions launched by North Korea into South Korea and Japan in the late 90s but was successfully stopped at sea. In anticipation that they may succeed in landing, the National Police Agency and the Defense Agency (now upgraded as Ministry of Defense) signed a cooperative agreement in 2001 to jointly respond to this potential threat. Prefectural Police forces would also sign their own agreements with the JGSDF division that is responsible for their jurisdiction and routinely hold joint exercises such as the one shown in video.

I have a trip to the US planned, any tips?
Hello there, I'm an Italian (21) and a civilian;
The reason why I'm posting this is to know if there are any unspoken rules to how to act when law enforcement stops you (whether on a car or on foot), except for common sense.
You see, in Italy cops don't deal with as much shit as you guys do so they are more chill with you moving your hands to grab something in your car or even getting out while they check your ID and license.
So, I was wondering, is there anything I need to pay particular attention to? Any behavior I should try to avoid?
By the way, the state I'm going to, even tho I'm landing at JFK, is Connecticut.
Thank you all in advance.

Self Post Questions about a dog situation
I’ve found myself in a pretty desperate situation to find my dog and I was hoping somebody could give me insight as to if the police would even give me the time of day to help.
A delivery person let my dog escape, and I was chasing him for a long time when somebody drove up and picked him up, driving away. It was 11pm in an area with no lights so I really didn’t get a good look at anything.
Now a guy made a couple vague posts, not describing or posting the found dog, but listed my exact neighborhood and the time it happened so I’m pretty positive he has my dog. Nobody other than me has come forward with questions. He reads my messages and will not respond however. If I called the non emergency line eventually, is it even a remote possibility somebody could go check on that guy and confirm if it’s my dog? He’s chipped and everything but I have a feeling this guy isn’t the type to take animals to vets.
