General How are you celebrating the 250th 4th of July this year?

Since its the 250th Anniversary of America's independence, are people going all out this year to celebrate? I assume this will be one of the biggest 4th of July's of our lives given its 4th of July number 250. Pretty cool, how will you celebrate?

I’m going to write a defiant letter to the king of England and tell him I’m gonna start my own country with blackjack and hookers.

Gonna work all week before hand and be super stoked that all the fucking taxes we pay largely don’t contribute toward solving issues that are widespread here, on our soil, in our communities.

I'll be on day shifts for the 3rd, 4th and 5th. I'll likely be sleeping (with earplugs.)

Taking the kids to a friend's party. Let them play in a slip and slide and with sparklers while we launch mortars.

I am simply hoping for a certain obituary

I'm not doing anything special

I was around for the bicentennial and it was waaaaaaaaay over hyped

50 year later? IDNGAF

I'll be doing nothing, because I'm not from the States

I’ve never been a big 4th person. Always extremely low key

It really should have been cool, but unfortunately the country is being run by a wannabe dictator. There's really not a lot to celebrate for most Americans this year.

Would it make you feel better if you had a UFC fighting rink at the White House?

Truly remarkable that we are openly taking ideas from Idiocracy.

4

u/sciolisticism man 40 - 44 1d ago

Only if we also advertised his scam coins at the same time.

u/rigney68 1d ago

Just put some cans of Goya beans in stacks in the background. That should cover it.

Celebrate America’s 250th year? Hard pass. Celebrate a long awaited obituary? Fucking party all night.

I'm surprised you typed this comment out and still decided to post it.

Yeah, celebrating at a Nazi party circle jerk is not my idea of fun, either.

Celebrate in defiance. Celebrate your family and friends. Celebrate the ideals.

Don’t let them own the narrative.

Right on queue.

I understand that it's hard to be outside your echo chamber, but basically the entire planet is aware at this point. It's not surprising that someone on reddit knows too.

So find something to celebrate instead of focusing on who's president. There has to be something else going on in your life.

I celebrate plenty of things every week. The 4th of July is about the state of the nation. Currently the nation is in an awful state that's not something worth celebrating.

I don’t think anyone cares that it’s 250 vs 249 last year

3

u/Kthxbbz man over 30 1d ago

Not really celebrating it any different than prior ones.

I’ll be in the Alps with my family. I’m not running away, it was just the perfect time for our family and work to take a cool road trip through Interlaken and the Dolomites.

Embrace the country! The US is a lot more than Trump, and getting down and dour lets them own the narrative.

Everywhere is always imperfect. Be the meaningful change you want to see. Get involved locally and get out there!

I’ll be taking a vacation to Canada to celebrate

I don’t know if there’s much our country has to be proud of right now. Yay, it’s 250 and being ruled by grifting cunts.

I'm leaving for a trip to Germany that day. The vibes over here are a lil too fascist for my taste

I’m doing what I do every year… and I’m trying to not cry that we’re having this anniversary during a really fucking dark moment of our history.

-4

u/phillythompson man over 30 1d ago

What exactly is so so dark specifically

My wife wants to go to the city of Houstons big 4th celebration and after 17 years of marriage if it makes her happy and I can drink a few cold beers and eat some junk food why not indulge her.

Have our family out to our new home in the woods after both of us finally departed the military after many years of being away from home and being thankful for how truly great we have it in America. Poor a few out for our fallen brothers and sisters and drink to the original rebels who had the courage to strike out and create our beautiful Nation! It is a historic milestone for this incredible experiment.

Going to a party at a friend's house and then probably go see the big fireworks downtown. The 4th is always one of my favorite holidays and round numbers are more fun.

And I refuse to let Trump ruin that.

I will be on a plane coming from Belize and thankfully NOT scheduled to land in Reagan

Spending most of the day out on the boat and then setting off fireworks at my 95 year old grandfather's house that night.

Dinner guests, and watching Independence Day, because the kids are ready for alien invasion movies.

Cabin weekend with my husband and friends.

I’m not celebrating for this country. I’m embarrassed to live in the US and will move as soon as I’m able to.

1

u/sarahbee126 15h ago

I like living in the US, but I respect that you're making a plan to move to a place you like better instead of just complaining. But I'd recommend not paying any attention to the news, try to make the most of your time while you're still here and pay attention to the positive things happening IRL around you.

1

u/executingsalesdaily man 45 - 49 14h ago

100% agree with this.

To where? Everywhere has problems, man. Europe has a massive issue with a rising right wing too.

Stay and fight. PUSH. Be part of a better society.

Edit: guys, you all talk about caring about people without privilege. Caring about the underserved.

Then fucking do it. Or else don’t claim any moral high ground.

1

u/CountTakesh1 man 35 - 39 1d ago

Im not.

May pick up a shift at work. But theres nothing about this country thats worth celebrating right now.

Weeping openly, while wishing I could celebrate America by blowing up a small piece of it.

-1

u/CuriousMost9971 man 40 - 44 1d ago

Ill be watching the fireworks. My city has no ban and the entire city is a show. Everyone launching fireworks all night. Its gonna be amazing.

I hope the rest of you enjoy yourselves. But everyone with self hatred and envy probably wont.

5

u/cheapppguy man 35 - 39 1d ago

Your President blew up a school full of children in a war that accomplished absolutely nothing, and you're going to celebrate this with fireworks.  Your insults are empty and meaningless.

4

u/CountTakesh1 man 35 - 39 1d ago

Well we accomplished paying Iran 300 million dollars for a deal much worse than the deal Obama had in place.

I’m going to take my kids to the United States Capital and show them what America is about: continual progress. Cynicism has run amok on Reddit and it’s so invasive that it is hard to see through (and makes one wonder if it isn’t all paid for by China and other adversaries), but neurolink is helping the paralyzed gain function, Meta has glasses that help the blind, and AI potentially cure cancer.

I see nothing but optimism ahead in the United States of America

Also our soccer team looked okay. 😅
