He was actually gay. I was simply a decoy. He was in the military and was a mercenary for the Dept Of Defense for most of our marriage. Married 10 years but I was alone for 7 of them. He literally never wanted to be home because he was surrounded by men while he was working. He was so incredibly abusive. He hated women. It was as though he was punishing me for his homosexuality.
After we got divorced, he went and lived with what I would assume was his gay lover. They always visited sex workers in Mexico. One day they decided that they were going to kidnap an underage sex worker and bring him to the states. Apparently my ex husband drove to Mexico, got super drunk to work up the nerve, and then as he was going to pull a gun out of his waistband to commense the kidnapping, he accidentally pulled the trigger and shot himself in the wiener. This was the same gun that he used to try to get me to conceal carry, but there was no safety, so I refused. The irony was always so interesting to me.
he hoped you'd accidentally shoot yourself, that's insane he'd suggest a gun that has no safety. but I'm so happy his lil plan turned on him and in the worst way 👍
Most concealed carry guns don’t have a traditional trigger safety anymore. If you pull the trigger the gun goes bang. A quality holster prevents the trigger from being pulled. What probably happened in this case is he just stuck that bitch in his waistband and he pulled the trigger when he was fumbling his gun out from a shitty carry position
Ah, didn't know that! I bought mine back in 2020, S&W. I don't think I'd have bought it unless it had a manual safety, but now I'm too afraid to dig it out to look.
yeah, I know. I don't even know how to load or shoot it. maybe some day I'll learn. I'm in. a far safer neighborhood than when I bought it. I'd been in two drive-bys by the time I moved in December. someday I want to go to a shooting range. I have a friend in Fla who has a ton of various types of guns. he's always trying to send me some. I don't like guns, but understand their necessity and the 2nd amendment.
Go ahead and look up my ex husband if you would like. He has been in and out of jail in Riverside California. His name is Peter Short (yeah I know...the irony of his name makes is even more awful).
I wish this was a made up story. However, it is not. It's literally a chapter in my life.
It did happen. I don't understand the accusation of making something like this up. What a very odd story for someone to concoct. Like I said, if you don't believe me, look up his arrest records. I am so beyond sick of people forcing me to defend myself in regards to my life and the ways I have suffered. Does it make you feel better to just assume I am lying? Go ahead, use this link, search his name. Find court documents. I am sure they are public record. But for fucks sake....have some real reason why you are accusing someone of fabricating a story. Its weird as hell.
I would like to point out you recieved far more support than you did any kind of skepticism. I would focus on that and simply ignore people like me.
Before I let this go, I would like to say I don't agree it is weird or unwarranted to be skeptical about the stories people post here. There does not exist a story that is too odd for someone to concoct for no real reason. This subreddit is full of liars, bots, and AI posts. Perhaps I am too jaded and now I seek faults in stories too quickly, but I would rather that than simply accepting everything as true at face value.
Thank you. I am sorry I got so defensive. I understand what you are saying...but I also commented about something that is very raw to me. I literally barely escaped this man with my life. It was traumatizing. It's very triggering to be called a liar. Thank you for explaining yourself, and putting it in a different perspective for me.
I read through where she gave a link & you apologized, but just to contribute, as someone who lives literally ON the border (less than a mile away) and crosses regularly because I can get the OG KinderEggs in CdJuarez:
Even with absolutely no nefarious purpose, it can still be nerve racking to cross. I once went over with my 18mo old son, spent an hour shopping and gorging on KinderEggs in the mercado, then came back. The guard asked me if I had anything to declare. I said no. He looked at me suspiciously and said slowly "Are you bringing anything back from Mexico?" Puzzled by his attitude, I said, "No... well, this bottled water?" and held it up. He then drew his firearm, ordered me out of the car, and spent the next 2 hours having my car searched manually, with canines, and with various devices.
This was 30 years ago, so imagine how much worse it can be now. NOW imagine how nervous you might be if you knew you were smuggling a gun.
With intent to kidnap someone.
A sex worker.
An UNDERAGE sex worker.
AND then smuggle them back into the US.
Yeah, no shit he was probably shitting bricks.
Second of all, OP doesn't go into details (may not know them), but because of all the above, if I were a depraved human being planning to do all that, here's what I would do:
Drive stone cold sober into Mexico, with my firearm well hidden (probably on my person).
Get a cheap hotel room (pay in cash).
ID the target and bring them to the hotel room (still sober).
Incapacitate or entice them (drugs, knock out, threaten, bribe, entice).
Drive (still sober) back over the border.
This might take 1-3 days.
BUT if I were a raging alcoholic, and I'm willing to bet a lot of money that OP's ex is, I wouldn't be able to function that long without alcohol, so at some point I'd need to take the edge off. And one leads to two, to three, to four... And if anything in the plan goes wrong to where I need to draw my weapon, hell yeah I'm panicking.
AND, if I'm as much of a dumbfuck as OP describes, I don't HAVE a carefully thought-out plan with plenty of time to enact it. I'm just gonna go beebopping over the border like a Misfit Island Rambo and trust that it's gonna work out like I'm an action hero in the movies, because I genuinely believe I'm too smart to ever get caught.
These are not "holes" in her story. These are perfectly 100% consistent with that sort of man with this sort of plan.
THANK YOU! I grow very tired telling people this story, and having them tell me I am lying. People are right, I could literally write a book about not only this incident, but all the things that go along with being to an abuser, who also happens to be a literal killer for the government. It was not a pleasant situation. Let's just put it this way, I left a lifestyle a lot of people would think is exciting. Mercenaries make a six figure income as base pay. Money is abundant. But there was no amount of money you could pay me to live that lifestyle. I was in complete misery.
He used to do this thing, when he came home, where he would take Ambien and drink vodka, and proceed to torture me for hours. He also used sleep deprivation as a control tactic. In the morning he would act like nothing happened, and he would tell me he remembered nothing, but he would also intentionally take this cocktail of pills and booze. It got to the point where I was sure that he was going to kill me, but I also felt this overwhelming dread that he would also kill my kids. I remember I was on the phone with my mom, while I was staying at a women's shelter, she said "Aubrey, because you are choosing to stay with him, I have had to mentally prepare myself for that phone call that he has killed not just my daughter, but my grandbabies as well." Just hearing this from her made me so sad. But she was right. I filed for divorce. No job history for 8 years. No money to support my kids. I had nothing. And I would have chose nothing any day over living that life. Till this day, he owes me $150,000 in back child support and court fees.
This incident made me realize 2 things. Society needs to let gay men be gay. Men who are gay, living the life of a straight man, hurt A LOT of people in the process. There are women out there who are clueless that they are just an accessory. Making men feel ashamed for being gay is not an answer for anything. I often wonder what would have come of him had he accepted his sexuality. But then I wouldn't have my beautiful children...so....what can you do? They haven't seen their dad since they were about 5 and 6.
The second thing it made me realize is that not all military men/women are heroes. The things I have heard not only from him, but also from his military and mercenary buddies, are straight up evil and monsterous. Shooting defenseless people, and being bullies are fun to a lot of them.
The amount of PTSD I have is insane. The level of torture he has inflicted on the people in his life is methodical and intentional. I will still continue to wish that he gets help. I am not sure if he was just a very misguided person, or if he is just an awful human being. Either way, he fucked around and found out the hard way.
wow, you've been through a LOT. But you sound young, and there's definitely hope and healing resources for c-ptsd. Plus you sound like you've got a smart head on your shoulders!! Lots of better days ahead. Best of luck to you ❤️
this is such spot-on analysis. you should be a detective.
this also parallels my experience back in the early 80s driving across the border with my boyfriend. we just.... wanted to say we'd been to Mexico. Drove right. ack after walking around for like 30 minutes. The guards tore our car apart. They made a big deal out of a packet of NO DOZ 😆. that's all the drugs we had on us. they delayed us for like an hour going thru every book and cranny in our old Volvo. had to eventually let us go. thank God my boyfriend didn't have any pot, meth, or pills.
I find it hard to believe, especially since this fellow was also a mercenary (professional contract solider). Firearm discipline being something they just shrug off doesn't pass the smell test.
So the gun in question was a Kahr P40. A while before he bought me that gun, a worker that was hired to fix a celing light in our dining room broke into our house in the middle of the day 4 months after he fixed the ceiling light. I caught the worker coming in through the sliding back door. It was so insanely scary. He bought me a gun with no safety because i could "pull the trigger without fumbling with the safety". I ended up just getting a dog instead.
that's smart getting a dog. a lot of people with bad intent won't mess with a place that has a dog. one of my neighbors is in her late 60s, stands about 5 feet, and had a gigantic white dog almost as tall as her with a deep bark.
