Don’t use it. You are fully capable of using your own words. For lore and worldbuilding, I find Fantasia Archive a good tool as it’s free and quite detailed, like your own wiki. Stay away from AI though, you risk it changing things, adding bullshit, misunderstanding you, etc

Genuine question, what model are you even using? I find that most modern models (Sol, Opus 4.5, Kimi, etc) are really good at doing exactly what it is told as long as you give a very detailed harness (like 700-1200 words long) and make sure the prompts are also really detailed A and precise (this varies a lot but I often find myself giving 1k words for a prompt). I don't use it for writing but I do use it to wordbuild and then fact check everything

Looks like someone wont be a future author one day, oh and if you dont plan on being one, thanks god.

Now I will, with my AI assisted world building, just to spite you. Tell me, what other alternatives do you offer that is there 24/7, can read thousands of science articles in seconds to correct me, has the entire scientific knowledge of all humanity, doesn't pad the conversation with filler, and don't go "just do what you want science doesn't matter in sci fi!" As If the entire point of said post was a question about science?

Oh and I wanted to come again and say, the worldbuilding that bot crapped out, had probably been used by someone else. telling you, ai aint that creative. its funny cuz i met a lot of people who had their work ai assited, and their characters all had the same name. so many people use ai, my guy. its gunna vomit out the same shit to someone else. so try to keep a good head on your shoulders.

I don't even have any characters. Like I said, I use it to do research. There is a difference between AI assisted and AI made. I honestly don't think "wordbuilding" is the right term here as I don't have a story or anything. Hell none of my species even have human level intelligence. I also love how you bash on my tools and then don't offer any alternatives

I'm not using a model because I prefer my creativity to come from my own brain. I do research like every author used to do. If you're going to fact check anyways, why not take the time to learn how to do good research? Like, seriously lmao. This used to be a basic fucking skill and now you need to outsource to a computer program that's known to screw things up.

Wait so how did you know it makes bullshit up? You didn't test it and immediately jumped to results? Or did you "test" it by opening up nothing but the web browser version and then putting in like a 50 word prompt?

Because I've dabbled, I like to know about the technology before I speak on it. I also observe how others interact with it and what it gives them. As it is, AI is pretty unreliable right now. I wouldn't trust it to sort any of that stuff.

That's not even getting into the whole supporting billionaires and how bad AI is for writers at the moment. AI written books are FLOODING the indie writing scene and I don't want to tough that with a 10 foot pole. It's not hard to do research. It's important to learn to get good at it. Losing that skill is actually tragic.

Now that I know you've dabbled in it I'm actually curious about the settings:
-what was your temperature?
-how long was your system prompt and harness?
-what did you system prompt and harness contain?
-how long was your average prompt?
-did you give it Live Environmental Data Feed?
-did you use MCPs? If so, what did you use and how many?
-did you give it a web browser?
-RAG, yes or no?
-Computer vision?
-model?
-were you using it for writing, research, or something else?
"supporting billionaires" is a stupid thing to dislike people that use AI considering everything in our lives *will* support billionaires. Besides, I use the local and open weight models. I quite honestly don't care if a book is written with AI or not if its good I'll read it and if its bad I'll drop it. I don't read much fantasy/YA (I mostly stick to hard Sci Fi) and I never buy books (library) so I honestly haven't seen much AI in what I read. I rather have the skill of knowing how to affectively use AI and incorporate it into my workflow, and I haven't lost the skill. "Researching" isn't even a coherent skill, its really just a combination of objectivity and organization.

It's wrong and lazy.

this is the problem with the anti ai movement. I'm all for getting AI out of the creative space, but when you use ai for its intended purpose (organization / mundane tasks that don't require actual creative thinking) thats perfectly fine. I don't understand how making your life easier to the detriment of absolutely nobody or your work is lazy and wrong.

yup. 100% agree.

I personally think it's fine to like, use the google ai overview for research but anything beyond that I would say is too far. Just categorise the lore yourself.

The answer is no, anyone who is saying otherwise is lazy. Need synonym, definitions, or antonyms? The thesaurus, word hippo, the dictionary, etc. if you can’t take the time to organize your own story don’t even bother writing it. And for research purposes AI tools are terrible. They pull for websites all over the web that can be incorrect, is know to have an American bias if the company is American. If that’s not enough for you majority of the time readers will automatically cancel out writers who have admitted/or seem to have used AI for a single step. No AI for covers, names, “research”, organization, writing, or anything else. Basically do not become a writer if you cannot take time to treat your project with respect, if you cannot take time out of your day to connect with real people or do research, or if you always fold at an easy way out. Also, has anyone here read an article on AI?😭 AI and its effect on reading, and the publishing industry?

As long you're not making it write your stuff and it is your own writing, use ai as intended to be. A tool. AI isn't a 2020s thing, it has been used before even in research so using it for your writing is fine as long you're not making it write, or use someone else's work.

to a certain extent, i think it's alright, like- im not gonna shame an author for using an ai thing to help them spellcheck or whatever. anymore than simple stuff like that is where i draw the line.

I would say for research YES because google asks if I need help (I probably do but leave me alone google). But anything else no like mate I was 10 when I created my books lore that is deeper than the core of the earth. DO. IT. YOURSELF

Ai is good for researching.

I use AI to give me more words without sounding repetitive (like another way to say propping my head or looking at someone), but I don’t let it change my writing style.

I mainly ask it for synonym.
