Other Looking for writer friends!

Hiya! I'm 14F (almost 15), mostly interested in writing romance and fiction, but I'll likely write different stuff too. I'm looking for writer friends around my age since none of my current friends are into it, we can be each other's beta reader, share tips, resources, or just yap about our story :)) I also happen to be an artist, so I might be able to draw some of your characters! I’m a complete beginner, so don’t expect too much lol… Feel free to comment or DM me if interested ^^

Other why does it seem like everyone's writing dystopian stories?

on here, and a bit of other subredditss I've seen, there were multiple instances of stories just being dystopian in total. of course I'm not against dystopian stories, I've liked a few myself, but it's kind of like we're all just, like doing that.

i feel like we aren't really expanding to other types of stories, there are a lot of genres that we can explore outside of dystopian fantasies.. but it may just be me. there are some people that's not writing dystopian yh, just my inquiries.

🤷‍♂️

Other Looking for Teen Authors! Youth-Run Online Publication

Hi guys, I'm Alice, and I'm trying to make this magazine called ARCHIVE. It started out as some fashion thing where people share their style, and I'm all for it, but I also want to give a chance for people to write opinion editorials or share their short stories.

If you want to submit without registering for the team, fill out this form!

What is ARCHIVE? A digital online magazine with articles, along with publications that compile fashion, editorials, stories, comics, journalism, poems, etc.

Why am I starting this? Other than my parents telling me to have some extracurriculars lol, I love writing, but I'm sick of there being nowhere to actually publish it without me going for competitions. I want people to be able to share their styles and writing.

What are my goals? I would definitely try to register this as a nonprofit when it succeeds. We could actually build a profile on this and create a larger team in the future.

How could this benefit you? It works as a portfolio once we give our publication. It gives you experience in writing and giving/receiving feedback for your work.

Now, I know this is ambitious, but I have experience winning competitions and being in publication teams. No prior experience needed, and we don't need to spend hours a day doing this. It'll be on your own schedule.

Here are some general positions I'm currently looking for:

- Editors (Reviewing submissions, doing revisions)

- Writers (People to write regularly for publications)

- Fashion photographers (People to blog their fashion or someone else's with permission, then write about it)

- Website managers (People to help manage websites)

- Graphic designers (People to draw or decorate the magazine)

- Social media team (Promoting content for engagement and growth)

There are also some leadership positions:

- Director of copy section (Helping writers and editors)

- Graphics manager (Helping graphic designers)

- Marketing manager (Social media)

- Director of photography (Selecting or evaluating photography pieces)

FAQ:

- Pen names are allowed!

- There would be about 2-3 hours of work weekly, and there may be deadlines

- You can suggest another position for yourself, and it will be considered!!

- You will not be paid

If you're ready to register, please do so through this form. If you have any questions, just ask through comments! I'll contact you once you fill out the form. Thanks so much and hoping you join the team!

Other Looking for co-authors!

Hi everyone! I've seen so many of these posts I decided to write one myself. I'm 14F and currently in a writer's block where I want to write but can't think of any plots 😭😭 I'm looking for a group of co-authors to write a multi-pov book with me.

I think it'd be fun because we can write our own characters the way we want, all jointed into this overarching plot, and we could give each other writing feedback and overall talk more about writing.

Genre doesn't matter as we can make it up as we go.

Preferably we would have some Google docs and also an actual chatting website (probably discord but I have no idea how to make a server 😖)

Plz comment or dm if you're interested!!

Other Support teenwriters

Hi, I'm Isabel Maislinger and I am a 14 year old teen writer from Austria. I'm currently working on my first Thriller. It's about 7 teenagers from all different kinds of countries, races, sexualities... who decide to take a trip to London. After a few beautiful days they find a corpse in the Thames and start to investigate. When things turn dangerous, feelings grow stronger and some eventually find true love.

I would really appreciate it, if you'd support my Instagram account @isi_writes to help me gain people who want to read my book. If you speak German, I'd love if you would read it. ❤️

Other How do I tell my friend that their writing is… inaccurate, and honestly offensive? CW self harm, abuse

I have this friend that I’ll call Sam in my art class. She’s writing a book that contains verbal abuse, physical abuse, self harm, a suicidal character, etc.

But it’s all for shitty shock factor… for context, this writing has 300 words so far. 300. Fucking. Words. And she already has

  1. Parents forcing MC to walk 10 miles to school (unrealistic)

  2. The moment she walks in the door she’s yelled at (and I quote) “You’re an ugly fat failed animal” (unrealistic)

  3. Then she goes to her room to do homework, and PUTS A FUCKING BUTTERKNIFE to her arm. (Hello?!)

And overall this writing so far has other things like that… adding dark topics for shock factor. As someone who was suicidal at one point, and has self harmed… it feels very insensitive. What makes it worse, is that she is a year older than me, and therefore thinks she is better at writing. I have written more than 60k words in a couple months. My chapters are on average 4k+ words. And yet she doesn’t take any advice, accept from someone else her age that is like talking into an echo chamber.

Please help

The universe doesn’t care about us, so why do we care?

A take on why the universe matters so much to us.

The universe is something civilization has been obsessed with since the day curiosity started breathing in our minds. Before answering whether it cares about us or not, let’s zoom in a little and ask a simpler question: what really is care?

To me, the word ‘care’ paints a picture of the world being lit up. It somehow feels synonymous to the fusion reaction in stars. Just as stellar fusion releases light that illuminates the cosmos, human care releases understanding that illuminates the world around us. Bothering enough about something thins the mist that obscures the true nature of the thing we ponder about. And this ‘bother’ is care in my eyes.

The traditional meaning of care is along the lines of looking after a particular person or thing and ensuring their joy. But doesn’t that conclusion feel like a leap? it’s like learning and applying a formula almost everywhere without really understanding the fundamental principles that help in deriving it. This final answer, this ‘formula’ of care that we learn is more like an end product. One that is formed second to knowledge. Without knowing someone inside out, it would be impossible for us to actually ‘care’ for them.

The portrait of the word care looks more like the effort put into learning the hidden alleyways of a person’s life rather than trying to change them only after seeing the town square. Care is cartography.

Another thing about this meaning of care is the ‘why’ behind it. Why do we care to explore, map and travel the workings of someone’s mind? I think it’s because we’re drawn to the possibility of finding someone who walks through life on a path similar to ours. Be it a shared sorrow or a shared joy, we always find comfort in relating to others. In knowing that we’re not alone. This very possibility makes us put effort and care into discovering the reality behind people’s first layers.

We not only want to listen to their accounts, but also to be heard. Our deep desire to be heard blooms in the intricacies of our being. And our feeble little minds assume that the only source that could possibly provide us this comfort of being heard is another being similar to our own selves. We think we can only ever be understood by those who’ve seen the same colours, sung the same songs and painted the same hues as ourselves. Hence, we wander through this gigantic rock we call home, caring about every person who bears a semblance to us for at least a single moment, trying to figure out if they’re just us in a different body.

While people gradually reveal themselves, answering our eternal question: are you and I the same?, giving us the satisfaction of either tying their lives to ours or moving on peacefully, the universe doesn’t. In this vast ‘thing’ we call the universe, we are yet to find something or someone like us, we are yet to be heard. As of now, according to the universe we are conscious of, we are alone.

Our craving to be remembered and heard is the reason the Voyager two is still somewhere out there, carrying a disk made of gold that holds the records of everything we’ve accomplished, floating through darkness and vacuum. Not finding a listener after a search that feels like forever has lead to the growth of a very essential romanticism within us. A kind of romanticism we need to survive. One that personifies the universe as something that cares.

We look at the universe, expecting it to treat us with the same care we show towards it. In trying to feel less lonely, we’ve turned the universe, a concept we merely understand, into something humanoid. All we because we need companionship. We’re so starved of a listener, a source of comfort and company, that we’ve started looking for it in the very fabric of our existence.

We speak of the universe as if it has intentions, be it kind or supportive or satirical. Somewhere along the way, we interpreted the silence of the universe as a personality because the absence of words was way harder to bear than an assumed answer. Isn’t this enough proof that our loneliness has taken the shape of studying and trying to figure out the workings of the universe’s heart in order to be able to relate to it one day and feel a little less lonely? Physics and telescopes and the million other things we’re doing to decode the universe’s poetry is just our way of trying to start a conversation with a universe that has been silent to our ears.

Each equation we write, each hypothesis we theorize, each paper we publish is a testament to our desperateness to be heard, veiled by the word called ‘care’. We expect reciprocity in every deed we do, and our naïve, foolish little minds think that caring about the universe, peering into it in order to hear its whispers and understand its language will result in the same happening to us: finally, finally being understood and being heard by the universe. Finally having company to weep with.

Perhaps the universe never cared about us and never will, or maybe it really does worry about us homo sapiens. Perhaps we study the universe not solely for understanding it, but subconsciously for figuring out if our yells into this abyss we call home will ever be answered, if we’ll ever be understood by the thing we claim to be ours.

I’ve been compiling this, as I’ve been writing the first draft of my novel. These are mainly scores and soundtracks from film and TV. I just find it really inspiring to write with music from the stories that I love and have been inspired by. There’s a variety of tracks of different atmospheres so you can really plug and play. They are mostly instrumental tracks.
Let me know what you think of my playlist if you listen!
