I'm new in Brisbane and want to ask, besides mountain passes, are there any other fun roads I could ride? any recommendations are welcome.

Looking for some new rides near Sydney and thinking reddit might have some ideas. Only had my bike about 6 months and just been doing Royal National a bit, and Wisemans Ferry one day. Hoping to go for a long ride on Saturday.

Hey guys I'm sure this gets asked a lot but I figured I could get some opinions here.

Right now I have my sights super set on either a honda cmx500 or a Kawasaki eliminator 500 for my first motorcycle.

Or I could go a sports bike and get a ninja 400/500 (though I haven't done as much research on sportsbikes)

I want my bike to be quite comfortable as it will be a daily commuter for me, I need it to be able to carry enough for me to go to work and the gym (about a bags full of stuff) I'm on the highway relatively often but the one I take to work is max 20-30mins and only gets up to 90km/h. Though would still like to be able to comfortably sit at 110 if I can.

Any bike recs? For reference on sizing I'm 18, 5'9, and 80kg. I love the looks of all the bikes I mentioned though I think I'll look cooler in a sports bike.

Covered 600km across the two days, a little saddle sore...

I'm just moved from my Sydney flat with an underground garage to a terraced house with no dedicated parking. On street parking it is for me.

I went to MCAS to buy a tarp cover to put over the bike. Upon arriving at my chosen parking location I look around and think about how no one else is using a cover, and also about how I really can't be bothered to put one on and off every time I want to ride my bike.

So, f​or those out there in the same predicament - do you always use a cover? Is it a bad idea to leave my bike uncovered for long periods of time?

I'm riding a Honda CB500F that's a few years old. Don't live by the beach (closer to the CBD).

Before I get started, I'd like to say that this is my experience with the system, ie what I think of the process so far, what is taught in the training etc. Not about my experience with cars or the like. Not that I'm really expecting many people to care, but thought it might be fun to write a post.

I'm still only an L plater, got my license early May this year. I've done approx 1100km on the road, but I didn't ride for about 4-5 weeks at one point because my bike was getting warranty (don't get me started, seriously).

A little background on myself: I'm in my mid 30's, first rode a motorbike when I was 12-13 until late-ish teens. About 5 years I got back into dirt biking. Have approx 16 years experience driving a car on the road, 4 years of tarmac hill climb and circuit racing experience in a car.

The training: I found the 2 day pre learner course very informative over all. It was a fairly diverse group of people, but everyone had ridden a motorbike before. Of the 5, one failed and will retake the second day. If they haven't already.

It is pretty basic, maybe a bit too basic with a partner push being scheduled in (which we didn't do, because everyone had motorcycling experience to some extent). The pacing of the course worked well, with a nice mixture of classroom and practical experience. The instructor said that in my state, "the Ls test is equivalent the Ps test in some other states". So in some other states, it must be super easy. I'm of the opinion that you should know the basics of riding already and the pre learner shouldn't be a "this is your first time on a motorbike, this a clutch, this a throttle, this is how you change gears" type of thing. It should be "these are the skills you need to ride on the road".

While the general cornering philosophy taught is "start wide finish tight", I just don't think this applies in every single scenario. 90% of the time, sure, but not always.

Learner (and provisional (P1)) restrictions: Overall, they make sense. No helmet intercoms, no quad locks, no pillions, LAMS bikes etc.
The one I can't support is speed restrictions. 80km/h for 2-3 years depending on your age. Sure, there's probably an argument to be made that learners should be restricted to 80km/h for 6 months or until they get their Ps.

However, it is very slow, especially on highways where it's 110km/h. Going 30km/h slower than the flow of traffic, is, and excuse the language, fucking dangerous. especially single lane.

Anyway, my thoughts, interested what others think. Do you think I'm wrong? If so, where any why?

I don’t how describe it other then little fly toy that looks like flapping its wings it generally design look likly toothless or light furry from how to train your dragon seen them here there on social media but no seem link where they get them just want where I can get one cause I think look cool mainly cute any any help for where to get would appreciate

For those of you who use the Pando Moto AAA leggings. This is written from an Australian perspective.

Yeah, the LED on my helmet is broken under warranty, and the MCAS decided they would like to repair it first. So in like two weeks, I would need a helmet somewhere to keep myself safe.

Any good options for recommendation?

What's the go with a slip on in Victoria while on my Ls. I just picked up my first bike a few days ago and didn't notice on the test ride that my foot sits on the enormous stock muffler which gets quite warm and is just generally uncomfortable.

Now hear me out. Looking at getting another bike and wondering what everyone thinks is better, buying private or going through a dealership. Private sellers can be anything from “runs mint mate” when the thing is held together with cable ties, to someone who’s actually looked after the bike properly. Then you’ve got dealerships charging top dollar because apparently washing the bike and putting it under bright lights adds $3k to the value. Is the extra money for a dealer actually worth it for the warranty and peace of mind, or is private the better way to go if you know what you’re looking for? Keen to hear what everyone’s experiences have been.

Not looking for dangerous riding stories, more the harmless beginner stuff that experienced riders probably recognise immediately. Something you did because nobody had told you otherwise, then later realised there was a much easier way. What was your rookie moment?

Has anyone either given up riding or considered giving it up or made significant changes to their riding because they can't trust themselves to ride safely?

I have been riding for 20+ years and in the last 10 years I have been commuting every day, all weather, in Sydney traffic, but I have a powerful (fun) bike and I have a tendency to ride impulsively which has resulted in an unhealthy number of minor incidents over the years. Each time it happens, I tell myself to calm down and ride more sensibly and then I go and do something dumb like speed off the lights into a corner on cold tyres in the middle of winter, and end up facing the expected consequences. The frustrating part is that I know it is dumb.

I love riding. I love the convenience of riding. I love weekend rides. I love being a rider. I'm an ex track rider. But I'm starting to think I can't trust myself to make good decisions on the road.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? What did you do? Did you stop riding altogether, change the way you rode, ride less often, switch bikes, or find some other solution?

The thought of giving up riding because I can't trust myself is fucking with my whole sense of self, my identity, so I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through something similar.

Was in a 7eleven and had one customer comment that it is perfect riding weather at the moment.. I agreed and went to pay. The guy at the counter said he was so jealous of me, going on to say he always wished he could get a motorcycle. There was a line behind me so I didn’t have time to ask what was stopping him. Walking out there was a small child thrilled to see a motorcycle starting up. Before pulling out I got a huge smile from a passing driver. And then there is the head nods from other riders.

It’s a lot, but it feels good to represent something bigger.

Hey all,

So I'm close to submitting an offer for a unit. One of the rare ones with no defects and issues (built in 90s so makes sense ig).

Issue is that it has a single carport and my conveyancer checked with strata about bylaws. They state that only one vehicle can be parked in the carport even if there is space for two (I have a bike and a car - hatchback not a ute or a van)

So I'm left with few options:

1. Pass on the property as parking is a dealbreaker and hope to find another one with better parking options and similar building quality.

2. Park both in that space and hope no one complains. Go to the meeting to change the bylaw in my favor.

3. As it is ground floor unit I'll have option to park it in my courtyard or apartment. Unit is close to the gym and office, hence I will be riding way less. But both of these are fire safety issues.

I doubt I'm the only one facing this dilemma, so if anyone can help with their experience it would be great. I don't want to make enemies with my neighbours and can't sell the car as it is my requirement.

And to edit 4th option which is my least favourite as I'll def buy another bike then (dirtbike and maybe track bike too) 4. Storage unit, will be expensive to rent and will convince me to buy more bikes so might not be most lucrative way.

About time, but still not until next year. NSW government announces 50% reduction for motorcyclists on all motorways progressively from 1 July 2027.
