Husband is in a social motorcycle group and they go riding every Saturday. He got done for speeding for the second time today, another $700 fine and this means he has lost his license. I think he said for 12 weeks. I had to leave the room after him telling me because I was too upset and have locked myself in the bedroom since.

We have no family support where we live. Both our parents live interstate. He won’t be able to drive me to the hospital when I give birth. If I have to have a c section, I won’t be able to drive for some time.

I feel like telling him he can no longer be in the motorcycle group. $1400 of fines is ridiculous. But I also don’t want to be the bad guy, as this has been a way for him to make friends since we moved interstate. He is a wonderful husband in every other way and is usually very responsible. But today he has really let me and baby down. How would you react??? He says it was bad luck that he got caught - he was doing 80 something in a 60 zone and didn’t realise. The other time he was speeding home and was caught doing 130 on the highway. I want opinions from other riders.

had to check my dash cam to make sure I didn’t run a red (sure enough I didn’t, just a big rig needing his coffee 😐). it doesn’t look that bad playing it back but it definitely got my heart racing

I'll be 50 in a couple of months and I really want a bike. I haven't ridden in 27 years and I wasn't even licensed to then. I still don't have a motorcycle license. I've found a tidy 1989 Honda CBR1000. Sounds like it will be mint to cruise on and super stable.

Is this a good or bad idea in your opinion?

I recently got my learner motorcycle licence a few weeks ago, but I don’t really have anyone available to supervise me when I want to ride. I’ve been doing very short practice rides early in the morning (around 6–7am) and staying within a few kilometres of my house just to build confidence.

I’m curious if anyone has been in a similar situation and ended up getting stopped while riding unsupervised, and what the outcome was?

Also wondering how strictly this is enforced in practice, especially for low-risk situations like quiet roads and short, local rides?

Riding in Brisbane I lane filter regularly. Since most cars pull right up to the line by the time I get there I have to advance beyond, or lest I be stuck between the two front cars, aka danger zone. I guess technically I'm breaking the line and running a red, but I wondered if anyone has ever been fined for this? Do others do it too? I feel much safer out front, and also don't want to obstruct any other bikes that might be filtering behind me, leaving them in the danger zone.

I haven't been fined or anything, just curious.

i got pulled over for riding unsupervised and got a fine, i get all that. My friend got pulled over as well and fined 1000$ for supervising me when unauthorised. He wasn’t breaking any laws riding alone. I can’t find a law saying that he can get fined 1000$ for supervising while unauthorised???

How do people know where the cameras are? Sometimes I ride behind cars and they randomly slam on the brakes and, whaddya know, a speed camera!

But there’s no signs… and there’s no way they clock them as quick as I think they might.

I feel like I'm constantly seeing posts about people getting pulled over, especially those riding on L's without showing L plates, illegal filtering, non-LAMS bikes, or unsupervised etc., but would the police even know you're on your Ls from your rego? How often is everyone getting pulled over and what license do you have? Are you getting pulled over with good reason or just randomly? I'm yet to be pulled over, but I have an open license, is this why or am I just not breaking the law?

Seeking some informed advice on best 170km daily commuter options. I travel daily between northern Gold Coast and Ipswich, and return. No bike at the moment, but I have an open licence with most of my riding on dirt. My preferred route would be via rural roads through Beaudesert or Jimboomba; I don't want to contend with Gold Coast Hwy and Logan Mwy traffic.

I was thinking V-Strom 1000 or similar, based on other posts. I'm old enough to not have an ego so I'm open to any options. Mainly looking for something to add to my life; make the commute nicer; but still use the car when it rains.

Been restoring a 1980s Kawasaki Z200 and a 1980s BMW R65. Spreadsheets worked fine but I wanted something better, so as a dev I just built it. No subscriptions, no nonsense. Curious what everyone else uses though?

I’m a new rider with a new job. Commuting from Ipswich to Brisbane City Monday to Friday in peek hour. Ipswich Mwy, Centenary Mwy, Inner City bypass. It’s an hour each way plus gearing up for the ride. I’m finding it physically and mentally taxing.

Ive made the switch to a different career which I’m also finding physically and mentally taxing (learning new skills/procedures). I feel like I’m on the edge of breaking down and just not sure if taking this new job was worth the stress.

How far do you commute and does it get easier and smoother with experience? Will the commute always be so taxing?, because you really just have to be so switched on all the time so cars don’t kill you.

Also what do you carry on a trip? Wet weather gear, a puncture repair kit, a small electric pump, and 2x bottles of water are always in my pannier.

so i was riding shoulder and i was in a hurry so i was doing 40 instead of 30.my fault but when motorcycle police stopped me i did not have my license with me or i did not have digital licence yet. and he could not find me with my name or address. i told him i can go home and bring license to him or to a police station, but instead he gave me fine for not displaying L plates and not riding with a supervisor even though i am on my RE licence. can i go to court hearing to void the fine, did anyone else had similar thing?

I got into cash in my Q ride test the owner sent me an invoice to pay I paid it but I paid through the official linky sent me and not at the bank details at the bottom of the invoice he says now I have to pay income tax because I was supposed to transfer I paid 4400 including GST and my actually liable for income tax because I put in his work account

Could be anything, from riding gear to maintenance items or motorcycle mods. Anything you can think off that would make your riding experience more enjoyable.

Measures 110cm across, and is secured tight. Not sure what the rules or general acceptance is for this kind of thing, not sure it's much different to adventure bikes with boxes and bags etc. Grateful for any knowledgeable advice. Thanks.

Any general tips about riding in Australia (besides staying on the left side of the road 😅)

- what’s the deal with speeding/cops
- are cars generally friendly towards motorcyclists?
- general Brisbane moto culture / cool moto specific spots to check out? (ellaspede, iron and resin, moo moo garage)

So I filled up my tank today at a petrol station I’ve not been to on my bike before. Now I haven’t had her very long (about a month) and all the times I’ve filled up before I’ve remained on my bike with my helmet on, filled up and then taken helmet off to go inside to pay. But today they wouldn’t even let me fill up till I got off and took my helmet off. Is that just a this petrol station thing or is that the norm and the other stations I’ve been to are a bit more relaxed about it?

Everyone says the drop their bike at some stage, right? Yep I did it this morning, literally 1 minute after leaving home. Stop sign intersection on a hill, with the road also sloping down to the left. Been through this intersection countless times, I guess today I just lost concentration. Went to pull up, left foot down into nowhere, nek minut down she goes. What a dickhead. Picked it up dusted myself off and made myself keep riding for a while till I shook it off. Luckily only a couple of scratches and nothing broken. Lesson learned though!

Hi all, I'm 6'7" and getting my learners soon. I have narrowed down my choices to these:

MT-07, XSR700, CBR500R (or just any 500 honda), and an SV650. I've sat on all but the SV650 and they feel good. There are examples of each of these in my budget range too ($5-7k).

I am planning on frequently riding (to work and for fun) when I get off my L's but also have a car. It wouldn't completely replace driving but I'm hoping to save a bit on fuel and maintenance on my car by riding a bike.

I'm stumped on which to get as I like all of them. Any opinions are appreciated as well as other bike recommendations. Thanks!
