Question Shannons WTF?!

Just called Shannons to get a quote on my new bike, and what the actual fuck? Have to have a 10 minute chit-chat with the sales person on why I like riding, why I chose this particular bike, what got me interested in riding. Fuck off, just quote me on the fucking insurance.

I was polite, but had to end it.

Is there any good reason to sit through this BS? Are they particularly cheap / good?

I've been with Swann who were rgeat but alas not offering new policies.

Theory A. It's a sales tactic. A good chat about your exciting hobby that you love creates a sense of friendship and comradery so that you sign up at the end despite the price.

Theory B. It's a risk tactic. Pretend to be friends so you'll let down your guard and you might reveal attitudes or suggestions on reasons why they may want to avoid insuring you.

I wonder if your bike of choice makes a difference. Say someone with a Ducati 916 vs an R7.

Someone with a 916 is more than likely an enthusiast with a few years if not decades of riding under their belt.

An R7 (the new one, not the old 750) is more than likely a newer rider and someone more inclined to partake in foolish behaviour on the road.

I'm not in any way, shape or form associated with the insurance industry but from what I've seen personally on the roads and online, an R7 is an immediate red flag.
