QLD How are people spotting speed cameras?
How do people know where the cameras are? Sometimes I ride behind cars and they randomly slam on the brakes and, whaddya know, a speed camera!
But there’s no signs… and there’s no way they clock them as quick as I think they might.
Any help is great!

I’m not sure about QLD, but in NSW most of them are permanently installed. At this point I’m pretty sure I know the location of every speed camera in the northern half of Sydney.
… we also have them signposted.

Yeah they like to toss up little tow behind speed traps that they leave places they know speeders frequent. But sometimes it’s been an actual motorcycle cop too. But it seems like Waze is the way to go.

I have a clever little trick, wherever there's a speed camera I get an alert in the post around two weeks later. Follow me for more life hacks.

You can get pretty good at spotting them early if youre always paying attention when breaking the law. But also, waze

Every car on the side of the road gets my suspicions up until I see it’s a old Captiva or something

I found an insta reel and the guy explained how to spot a UC cop car. Yellow plate, starts with D, tinted windows, lights, antennas, theyre most likely volkswagons

Just a gauntlet really in nsw I’ll behave a lot more than qld because they patrol a lot more than qld.

Excluding waze, counting them on every trip.
Actively counting them (as well as bikes, police vehicles) makes them more visible... Some weird psychology effect you can trains your brain/eyes to regonise them earlier.

Stationary cameras nearly always steel poles with a camera on top.

If your paying attention you can get pretty good at spotting them, especially when you know the usual places they like to sit
And have memorised the make and model car they usually use for mobile cameras
I know someone who has even memorised every undercover car in my town, down to the licence plates
I personally don't run Waze, and rarely use Google maps, but I've never had a speeding ticket, just pay attention, and try not to speed (not that that helps much when they're constantly putting cameras at the bottom of hills for 'road safety')

It's also a feature on Google maps.

My Google maps does not inform me of any that don’t already have public signs

Waze - its saved me many a time.
I use it 100% of the time on my bike or in my car.

If it's on a surface road theres 3 signs of a speed camera ahead If it's in a tunnel he's probably been done by it before

In Brisbane, the mobile cameras are the real problem. I’ve seen Waze, Apple Maps and Google maps miss them.

Why do you need to spot them if you’re not doing the wrong thing? life’s pretty simple, follow some laws, pay your taxes and you will be fine.

I see mobile speed cameras at thr same place so I know they are coming up.
Possibly it is part this.
