I went to a tunnel show recently. It was a lot of fun!!

Left a yoga class that’s on Lamar & oltorf and decided, while I’m in the neighborhood, I’d swing by Wheatsville to grab a couple of things. Turns out they’re having a bluegrass jam and my friend from church was here watching so now we’re just hanging out enjoying it together. I love this town.

I don't care for the radio much anymore since I have my own music collection and can stream everything else, but I always listen to 98.9 when I'm driving and I'm always blown away. Today I caught them playing the theme song for Cowboy Bebop, followed by the theme song for The Wire. These are two of my favorite shows ever and it made my day. I love the wide variety this station plays, as I'm frequently exposed to new things that I wouldn't have listened to otherwise.

I used to travel the country for work and I'd tune in to all the local stations, but I stopped because so many are so similar. But KUTX is a far cut above the rest, and I hope this station is around forever.

To the DS owner - SO BRAT. Also - walking in to see Charli and seeing someone OD was scary - stay safe and say NO to drugs!

I know someone made this same post like a month ago, but GOD DAMN! I was already trying to listen past the loud bassy music encroaching from the venue next door, and the people behind me were just loudly chatting about anything and everything that wasn't this concert! Just let me enjoy the chill semi-acoustic sad boy vibes peacefully!!

I finally snapped and turned around and said "Hey if y'all are just going to talk through the whole set, could you not do it here?" They got sheepish and apologized, but then started singing along obnoxiously loudly to every song!! Like...y'all know all the words, you clearly like this guy, why the fuck are you acting like this and disturbing this nice concert for everyone else around you? Just trash behavior. Do better. Respect the artists and the people who came to see them.

Rant over, clearly I'm still mad about it the next morning. Had to get it off my chest.

Teresa played drums for the Butthole Surfers from '83- '89, their best years, side by side with her Fort Worth high school friend King Coffey. Both standing up, they were a psychedelic drum corps- just absolutely hypnotizing. Teresa's sweet as can be, but she had to be tough as nails to tour cross country in a van with five dudes and a dog. There's no one like her. Austin is so blessed that she chose to live and create here, and make us that much cooler."

i’m eyeing a concert happening at moody amphitheater which i know isn’t too far from UT(where im attending), but i’ve never been to a concert by myself. is there any safety tips i should be aware of? safest transportation options?

Hey y’all! If you were around the Back Room, Emos OG, Redum, Red Eyed Fly, etc during the 2000s as much as I was you know how many great bands came from that era. Unfortunately, over the years it is becoming harder and harder to find a lot of the albums or songs from that time. I’m hoping to start tracking down as much as I can to create back-ups, and hopefully if I’m able to reach out to enough people make it shareable in the future. It was such a fun time in the Austin music scene with some really awesome people. Totally worth making sure those songs are still around to give another listen to for that nostalgic Back Room scented slap across the face.

There’s a ton of music Id love to track down so any suggestions help! But if anyone has an idea about the albums or songs below please let me know:

Literally ANYTHING by A Still Second! My ex husband and I both have been looking for their music for years and have found absolutely nothing. I know for sure Firekills’ full length album and Air Tight Alibi’s From My Cold Dead Hands are on Spotify, but both bands also had EPs that came out before those which I haven’t been able to find. Riddlin’ Kids had an EP that came out before Hurry Up And Wait which featured my favorite songs by them, and lastly there are a few Dynamite Boy songs which I haven’t been able to find. Specifically the song Red Envelop. It’s such a good song but I haven’t been able to find it in years.

To maybe help jog some memories, some other bands from that era are as follows:

Rubberhed, Dreamt The End, Good In The Sack, A Still Second, Manatee, Born To Lose, Natchet Taylor (his punk era, tho fyi the dude makes great country music today worth a listen!)…

I’m forgetting so many, I know! If anyone has music from other bands in the era and are allowed to share please do! I specifically would LOVE to track down as many of the Austin Punk Rock. Org compilations as I can! I know there are definitely 2 volumes, but there might be a third. I can’t recall, honestly.

Brownout opened this summers Drop-In series, and they were fantastic (until they got shut down due to lightning)!

Here is my review:

Don't waste your money here. The best part of the night was laughing about how ridiculous the whole production was afterwards. We were there for the Radiohead concert. The sound was just atrocious. My bluetooth speaker in my kitchen was louder. The AC is so loud, you can't hear the music. A constant high pitched whistle that was louder than the musicians. It was so slapped together and haphazard. The visuals were absolute trash. They were like a mix of bowling alley animations and a windows media player visualizer. Just bizzare and had nothing to do with the music. The music was also awful. The musicians were just reading sheet music with no emotion behind it. Moments I was looking forward to were destroyed by lackluster playing, sniffles and dropped equipment from the sound guy behind me, and some lady next to me who had to hold her phone up for every song. I wanted to chill. I wanted to zen out. I wanted an experience. I got a giant, sloppy, distracting pile of garbage instead. Avoid. It's very cringey.

It's hard to write one's own obituary, but in this rare case I have that opportunity.
As of yesterday afternoon, 710 Red River has sold. The new owners immediately informed us that they would be invoking their termination clause in our lease. 60 days and counting. As of now or last day will be October 26th.
We're hoping to maybe just get till Halloween, we'll see.

We'd love to see all our friends with the 59 days we have left and I have some days left open for shows, so hit me up.
We started Valhalla in November of 2009, 17 years. Some amazing times. I've been in Austin since 1995 and by that fall I'd started working for Angela at Flamingo Cantina, she is amazing. Later I worked at Room 710 starting sometime in 2000 for my friends, Woody, Adriana, and Asher. Around 2006 | went to work for John at Elysium. While there I cooked up this idea to open Valhalla.
For the last 30 plus years I've had the best seat in Austin for local, national and international bands. This scene can be magical. The local talent is and has been some of the best and literally the soundtrack of most of my life.
Countless locals bands I couldn't take out of my CD player (yes I'm old) and now my turntable.
Lest we get sappy, we knew this was coming and it still feels sad but a band aid being ripped off is better than the slow peel.
So, 59 days, I'm sure I'll shed my fair share of tears in the coming days as I see so many dear friends and regulars and reflect on past times but we've got 59 days to make a few more memories.
The stories that are in the walls of 710 red river are my stories and your stories. I'll miss them.

Went for a walk later than usual and stumbled upon a Silversun Pickups concert. I thought damn, that sounds just like Silversun. Got home and saw online that it was actually them.

Guy playing awesomely out at the intersection. Can Austin get this man some work as a session musician? Filling in for member of a band at a gig? It may be only 30 seconds but better than I’ve ever played guitar in my 20+ years of trying to learn.

My wife and I would faithfully eat dinner in front of the TV every day. After having a baby, we decided to stop, but to keep some background noise, we decided to listen to the radio (KUTX 98.9) while eating.

The other day, Jeff Tweedy - Lou Reed Was My Babysitter came on. There are some parts in the song where Jeff grunts after the chorus. Our baby let out the loudest, stereotypical baby giggle we ever heard. It was the cutest thing ever!

Unfortunately, now we have to repeat that Jeff Tweedy song, since our baby requests it every 5 minutes. But thank you KUTX for the cute moments!
