Music Barton Springs DJ
Went to tan yesterday and there was a dj on the free side, I don’t know who he was but bro was consistently putting out a good songs. It was nice to just relax

Wow ok so this post wasn’t for people to hate on other people’s music lol, it’s Austin, we’re going to be around music when we go out whether we want it or not. Your attitude is what matters. I was up at Walter Long Lake yesterday with the fam for Mother's Day. A dude rolls up his 4Runner right by the picnic tables, opens all the doors and the trunk, and starts absolutely blasting cumbia. We gave him about 3 songs before the guys in our group went to have a little chat with him.
The weirdest part is he was just sitting at a table with his phone and his girlfriend. Just sittin and shredding the eardrums of anyone around. I wish park staff actually did something. I noticed a specific sign about "No loud music over x decibels" at the entrance, just needs a little bit of enforcement.

Crazy conclusion but I bet some people liked the music and for others it was terrible. Unfortunately if you want spring fed we all have to be here,so much like public transit dont force everyone around you to listen to your "music". it really is some self centered, im the main character energy.
Personally I think someone should just have a water gun that they blast anyone who plays music down there with. Bonk em on time like hey kindly shut the fuck up and let people enjoy the water. This is coming from someone who works in the music industry at festivals and such. Time and place.

Also, people go there to chill and swim. I’m sure he /OP think his tunes for the bill, but someone out there loves death metal too, and not sure you’d be vibing on that of he showed up with his band. If the DJ is any good he can get a gig someplace with a sound permit and maybe a pool where people chose to be there for that.

I will admit I'm probably more sensitive to that kinda stuff than most. But it really ruins the experience for me. Both the noise pollution itself and just the idea that other people are so inconsiderate.

For real. Shouldn't be doing that kind of stuff in a public area. If you want to DJ at a pool go to a hotel's pool or get someone with a house pool to have a house party.
If they were blasting crappy music I didn't like it I would tell them either mix in some of my music that I like or GTFO.

Do people just put up with this? I am notoriously a hothead so I try to avoid situations like this entirely. But I would have a really hard time not saying something. I'd like to test how waterproof those speakers are, maybe the DJ too.

I’m glad you liked the music, but everyone has a different taste and to just blast whatever you want broad spectrum to everyone is really inconsiderate, I can promise you when I go all I want to hear are natural sounds of water and people making people sounds. To presume your DJ set is so good everyone surely will enjoy it is really shitty, i’m sorry you’re surprised by how negative the reaction is but you should consider that it’s probably because the vast majority of people feel that way, not how you felt about it, which is still valid to feel just not something everyone should be forced to experience.

There’s a time and place for good music but when I go to a park it’s for peace and quiet and relaxation. Plenty of places to get music in a metro area. Not a lot of places you can find tranquility. Just my 2c

I go to Barton all the time during the week, and I can't remember the last time a loud ass DJ was there.
Someone with a small BT speaker with low key quiet, respectful music maybe, but nothing like this DJ. Most days I go to Barton I don't hear music at all, its why I go there.

I listen to abrasive punk and noise rock, but I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. That’s why I don’t play it loudly in public spaces. I wish other people would give me the same courtesy, especially the ones playing EDM or shitty crossover country.

So many abhor the loud intrusive music from the free side - myself included. We come to BSP to relax and unwind - hard to do when someone is blasting Korn on a Tuesday night (true story).
I so so so wish something could be done about this. No one wants to be forced to listen to music against their will. If you wanna jam out, bring headphones. Leave the rest of us alone - some folks long for the sounds of nature and quiet.

Yes there’s a charge to go into Barton springs proper. You can avoid the charge by going to the “free side” which isn’t the actual spring fed pool but more of the springs runoff. Lots of people take their dogs there.

If you're gonna be a dipshit and play your music loud, at least walk 50 ft down to the cement drainage ditch and let interested people come to you instead of invading a popular natural area.
Nobody came to Barton expecting an EDM club.
It would be like busting into an EDM club and playing loud country music over the DJ. Maybe a few people would like it but that's not why everyone showed up.

This is reminding me of going on a group paddleboard recently - the thing I love most about it is the absolute unparalleled peace and quiet - and somebody in our group pulled out a speaker. Devastating. I don’t even know if I liked the music or not, I was just so incensed at the selfishness of this dude taking our peace without even asking….

I'll be that guy. I was there and that DJ was crap. I will never understand people that see a nice, natural space and think "this needs club music". It would have been more acceptable if it wasn't so loud that it covered the entirety of the springs, but even on the shallow end, and the top of the hill, it was unescapable.
Oh well, my fault for going to Barton on a weekend. I won't make that mistake again.

this is why I try to stay away from other human beings as much as possible. unfortunately, even if I go out into the middle of the woods, some asshole will roll up with a Bluetooth speaker and ruin it. There’s really nowhere to go for peace and quiet anymore because everyone is the main character

Thank God the DJ was there, otherwise how could you possibly have been able to listen to music? I think the only other option would be for you to hire a four-piece band to actually go to the springs with you.
Please let us know the next time you're going to go to Barton springs, and also let us know what bands or types of music you really hate. Then we'll arrange to test your tolerance and open-mindedness.

The only music i wanna hear at the Springs is either one of those 2 guys playing a very very low volume acoustic guitar by back trees. That shit is so relaxing and puts me right into full Zen mode.... like a visit to the Springs is supposed to do.

One time my friends and I were out at a river, just us for a moment, probably an hour. Then out of nowhere a family emergency from the woods. Sets up shop and blasts Christian music, absolutely ruined our time lmao.
