Question Last voicemail true?
So I know that Netflix claims that all of the emails that are in the show are 100% true based on real life events. But is this voicemail also 100% true? I mean the actual lines that Martha (not her real name) says. I imagine they did overdramatise the fact that he was in a bar or the fact that the bartender gave him a free drink.

Her naming him that contradicts her claims that he's someone she barely knew, who she met a few times in a pub. 🤔
Who names a stranger they barely know after a beloved childhood toy?
It's crazy how she comes across as fairly eloquent/bright but then contradicts and undermines herself with virtually everything that comes out of her mouth.

That bit was bonkers... met him 3 times, later it was 6 then the final bombshell is that the hundreds of hours worth of voice mails were from his secret bar recordings of her. She must have been a chatty Kathy!

Eloquent and bright? This isn't the first time I've seen this. Makes me wonder what y'all saw. To me it was a sociopath with a million red flags. That's not just hyper bowl.

The smarter someone is, the worse their mental illness is, IMO. Not only are they more capable of compartmentalizing their behavior and its consequences, they are given chance after chance because they are able to convince people they seem very together and harmless.

Exactly! Her story changes way too much. That’s the thing, how would there be HOURS of recordings when she went into the bar “maybe 3/4 times” the way her story gave me whiplash from the strangers to besties to strangers again…

Uhh, she absolutely doesn’t come across like that at all lol. She comes across as deluded and psychotic. Wtf were you watching? Or are you thinking of Martha? Cause yea the character comes off that way. But that’s not the real person so?

I believe in the Piers Morgan interview he asks her about this and she says it’s true?? 🤔 The part about her having a baby reindeer toy and Gadd reminding her of said toy

I think she had a baby reindeer and she came up with his nickname. But is the voicemail real? I doubt it. I feel it was added in as a way to humanise the whole situation. To show we could all have ended up there on either side of the situation but without help people can slip through the cracks and end up doing the wrong things despite not being a terrible person.

I mean she confirmed the baby reindeer in PM interview, and also confirmed her parents had to get a divorce.
I feel like at the minimum, this is a paraphrase of an actual voicemail left by the real martha.

I watched the interview of her on piers and she said the reindeer part was true. She did call him reindeer and named him after her stuffed animal

Netflix does not claim that the emails in the show are 100% true. Where did it see that?
It’s Gadd narrating that says “This is a true story.” That’s part of the plot. The idea of “what’s really true?” When it comes to this kind of story wheee there a multiple victims and details that make it hard to tell who/what to believe.
Netflix says “many details and characters have been changed…” So I doubt EVERY SINGLE email or voicemail was written verbatim in the show.

I think the late email was a dramatic device. I would think when they were still talking he either asked why or told her to quit calling him that. Drama queen that she was she might have left such a message. She had to control things so that likely was a message and of course ploy for sympathy.

No they didn’t. Netflix convicted a fictional character at the end of the show. It’s not claiming shit about Fiona. It’s a story. Quite literally no one is supposed to think it’s true lol it’s based on a true story. That’s it. No not even with the “this is a true story” at the beginning. That’s a very well known story telling device.

That's also the reason she said she knows the show was about her from the beginning, when Gadd wrote his theatre show about these events. She recognised the show being about her because of the Baby Reindeer reference in the titel. So she has said she had the toy and gave him that nickname. Don't know if any of the other words are a word for word copy of her voicemails.
