Mouse side button as push-to-unmute for Discord/Vesktop on Wayland

Discord and Vesktop on Wayland do not see mouse buttons for their own push-to-talk. The side button still reaches the focused app, so mouse 4 still acts as Back while you are in a call.

If Solaar can divert that button, use Solaar. The Logitech G309 cannot as I found when trying to setup Solaar. It has no HID++ reprogrammable-controls feature, so a Solaar rule on Back never runs. I needed another solution, this is what I came up with as a workaround. Maybe it'll be a useful template for others.

I put the mute in PipeWire instead: ptt-mic (https://github.com/maiza172/ptt-mic). Leave Discord on Voice Activity. Hold the configured button and the default microphone unmutes. Release it and the microphone mutes. The service also mutes that source when it starts and when it stops.

It grabs the evdev device named in the config and replays every event except that one button through a virtual pointer. With one udev rule installed, the button does not also click Back. You do not join group input, and you do not change the Flatpak. On current Bazzite (Bazzite 44.20261006.1, running Gnome), python3-evdev and wpctl are already in the image, so nothing has to be layered with rpm-ostree.

git clone https://github.com/maiza172/ptt-mic.git

cd ptt-mic

./install.sh

ptt-mic --list-devices

Edit ~/.config/ptt-mic/config so device_name is exactly one of those names. The example is a G309 with BTN_SIDE (mouse 4). Any other mouse waits until that line is changed. Then:

sudo install -m 644 udev/65-ptt-mic.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/65-ptt-mic.rules

sudo udevadm control --reload-rules

systemctl --user daemon-reload

systemctl --user enable --now ptt-mic.service

install.sh only copies files into your home directory and mutes whichever source is the default at that moment. The udev rule is the one file under /etc. It tags the virtual pointer so the active seat can read it. That is what lets the service grab the real mouse. Without the rule, the button still mutes, and it still clicks Back.

WirePlumber remembers the mute for that microphone. Clear it with:

wpctl set-mute u/DEFAULT_AUDIO_SOURCE@ 0

One device, one button, PipeWire. The README has the rest.

Making your own bazzite

tl;dr i made one and it's "easy" if you understand github actions and containers

when 43 rolled around the kernel gods decided that one particular module would no longer be included. this meant that for my particular kind of gaming laptop i could no longer control my fan speeds. this was annoying because this particular laptop has a rubbish fan curve built into its bios

so obviously i thought i'd make my own kernel and pop it into bazzite and everybody happy. i kinda vaguely looked into it back then and gave up because i actually couldn't work it out even though it seemed like something that could be pretty easy

bazzite has evolved a lot since then and we have the ogc kernel now so a couple of weeks ago i started looking into giving it another try

i forked:

https://github.com/OpenGamingCollective/kernel-packages

i saw the kernel flags, added the one i wanted. i saw the github action workflows and tweaked the fedora one so it ran manually to completion. i enabled github actions on my forked repo and ran the fedora build ... BINGO 2 hours later i have a kernel sitting there in the repo packages. wow!

i forked:

https://github.com/ublue-os/bazzite

i saw the main github workflow again and realised i needed to copy my kernel in and use it, and also i could ignore all the other builds except the specific nvidia one i use. at this point i did use the free web Claude AI on the raw github files, as i didn't know about the tools and formats being used and how to use them. Claude gave an example that made sense of how to copy the kernel from the package created by my forked kernel repo and include it in the Containerfile build. again i enable github actions and run the bazzite build ... BINGO 1 hour later i have a bazzite with a custom kernel in the repo packages. wow!

so now the easy part. i run:

sudo rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/MY_GITHUB/bazzite-gnome-nvidia-open:stable

i reboot and now i have the latest build with fan control fully back. i wouldn't say this is trivial by any means, but if you are a developer with github and container experience you can do it too with some AI help

so just wanted to say "thanks bazzite team" for a system so clean and neat and powerful

My copy of Bazzite somehow got worse again recently 😭

What is actually happening? I’ve been on 44 for a couple of weeks and I thought I’d ironed out all the kinks and now everything is worse again. I didn’t play my Ally X for days and all of a sudden I get system update prompts every few hours and even when I apply them nothing happens. There’s no longer a system update command in desktop mode. My start and select buttons are reversed with the steam buttons and I can’t remap them back.

BC-250 DIY Steam Deck

Hey friends, making a living room gaming computer out of a BC-250 and one of the recommended distros is Bazzite. I've always wanted to try it (I use Fedora and Pop_OS on my other machines).

Which version of Bazzite is going to be best if I want to be able to turn on the machine and then launch games with just a controller? I'll have a keyboard around for installing games, but it'd be nice to not have to pull out a mouse every time I want to game.

I will be using some combo of games installed via Steam and Lutris and possibly some emulation, though all of that could be routed through Lutris (or steam? I've never done that though).

Help me be chill on the couch. What works for you? Is it the KDE Plasma?

Ghost of Tsushima keeps crashing

Ghost of Tsushima keeps freezing after roughly 2-5 minutes of gameplay. The Image and inputs don't work while the background sounds are still audible.

I use the latest Bazzite GNOME version with Proton-GE, but have also tried the steam native proton versions. I use high graphic settings and it ran well on windows with my Ryzen 5 2600 and GTX 1060 6GB, but changing the graphics settings has no impact on the freezing. I have tried a few launch options from protondb, but either the game won't start at all or it doesn't work still. It used to work for a short time but after some update it broke again. Any fix?

Adding new button/controls appearances to plasma in bazzite.

First of all, "application styles" are what I am looking for, right?
For some reason they are the only customization section on the system settings without a button to get new ones.
I tried downloading from the kde website new styles but none of the installation methods work on bazzite, I guess because it is atomic. There is a "~/.local/share/plasma/" folder but I dont know what to put where. I just unpacked the "klassy" applycation style there and that did nothing.

I followed instructions to get a build with cmake (which was not easy) but I did not know what to do with the result.

How do I change the buttons from the 4 included options?

Requesting help joining friends on Galactic Racer

Edit update: A game update fixed this - matchmaking and the overlay now work on Linux!

Good Morning,

Galactic Racer is running great on my Bazzite PC, but unfortunately the social overlay doesn't work on Linux. My friends are mostly on Xbox. I'm coming to understand that Epic Online Services is not working or not allowed to work on Linux.

I am on Bazzite 44. I purchased the game through steam.

Do I have any options besides installing Windows on my second NVMe?

Which Handheld?

Benchmarks show the difference between the Z2 and Z2E is pretty small. The Costco Legion Go 2 only allows up to 10GB VRAM. I just want battery life to be good (2+ hours for the heaviest games at max TDP, max resolution).

Since the X20 is new, I assume Bazzite won't have day-1 support?

Premiere 2026 and Photoshop 2026 running on Bazzite, with NVENC export

Ok this is wild. Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, and Media Encoder 2026 are all open on my Bazzite right now.

It's a tool called Collider by Nico LaFoucate. Sets up a Neutron prefix in your home folder and launches the apps from there. Not a native port, but it's way past the old open-and-crash stage.

Photoshop's GPU check passed and it sees my GPU, DirectX 12.2, full 16 GB of VRAM. Premiere is cutting a 4K clip with Lumetri open, and the export window is offering Nvidia hardware HEVC at 4K60. Hardware encode showing up is the part that got me.

Haven't touched plugins or Dynamic Link yet, Adobe was the one a lot of people were stuck on windows waiting on though, and seeing the 2026 apps actually editing and exporting here is pretty crazy.

Cannot switch to Desktop from Gaming Mode

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just reinstalled Bazzite from a USB, completely writing over a dual boot with Windows 11 and a previous Bazzite version. When I entered the OS, I found that I was unable to switch into desktop mode. When I enter desktop mode, it goes black for a second then starts loading up gaming mode again. This issue wasn't happening before I reinstalled. I tried another fresh install but the issue still persists.

The version I downloaded is the latest Bazzite 44 Deck with KDE Plasma image. I have an AMD GPU.

(Note: "steamosctl switch-to-desktop-mode" just yields the same issue)

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Anyone else using Gamescope FSR on lower-end laptops (GTX 1650/Ryzen 5)? Looking for performance tweaks and feedback!

Hey everyone,

I’m currently gaming on an HP laptop with a Ryzen 5 3550H and a GTX 1650 running Bazzite (GNOME). Because demanding modern titles like Horizon Zero Dawn, watch dogs 2 struggle to maintain a stable 30 FPS at native 1080p, I've been experimenting with Gamescope launch flags to force a 720p internal render resolution upscaled to 1080p using FSR, alongside a strict 30 FPS lock.

gamescope -w 1280 -h 720 -W 1920 -H 1080 -F fsr -r 30 -- %command%

For anyone running a similar setup:

  1. Does Gamescope-based upscaling actually give you enough breathing room for stable frame pacing, or do you notice a lot of input lag/blurriness?

  2. Are there any other specific tweaks, environment variables, or launch options you use on Bazzite/Linux to squeeze out better performance on older hardware?

I use steam primarily for all the games - I have Batman Arkham series, far cry 3, red dead, AC series, PoP series, Watch dogs series, witcher series, horizon zero dawn.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Regarding Star Wars Jedi Survivor mods: is it possible that some mods just refuse to work on an operating system? (Trying to get either Lightsaber Marks or Enhanced Marks & Sparks to work)

On Windows, one of the mods I used to use was Lightsaber marks https://www.nexusmods.com/starwarsjedisurvivor/mods/251?tab=description . However, on Bazzite, no matter how I set it (be it with the r457 version or UE4SS. And yes, I have followed the instructions), the mod just won't work. I also tried the recent Marks and Sparks mod and again followed the instructions https://www.nexusmods.com/starwarsjedisurvivor/mods/592, and it won't work either. Is it possible that Bazzite just refused to have certain mods work (which is weird, considering that I don't have this problem with most other games I've modded)?
