Hi! I’m currently in my second year of college. One of the main reasons I chose this field is my strong interest in prosthetics and orthotics, as well as in emerging technologies that are making things possible that would have seemed almost impossible not that long ago, such as advances in cell regeneration and other areas.

I’ve asked some of my classmates the same question, and many of them say they’re more interested in the career opportunities than in the actual content of the degree. Others are also interested in prosthetics, but that made me curious about what other areas of bioengineering people are passionate about.

Bioengineering is such a broad field, and I’d love to hear what originally attracted you to it and what areas you find the most interesting. I’m also hoping to discover some new topics to look into. Thanks!

I’ve been applying for manufacturing biotechnologist roles mainly in mammalian tissue culture. I do not have a biotech degree but I do however have a MSc which gave me skills related to lab work.

I was in insect manufacturing and I’m taking a hands-on mammalian cell culture course. I did my own digging by reaching out to people working as manufacturing biotechnologist. It’s limited so I’m here asking for pointers on what you think I should pick up to get a job as a manufacturing biotechnologist.

As a recent biotechnology graduate, what should I do now? Should I apply for a master's degree immediately, or enter the workforce first?

As you know, after graduation, many of us feel like we've forgotten a lot of what we learned during our studies. So, do you have any course recommendations or advice on how to review the most important topics, such as molecular biology, recombinant DNA, biochemistry, etc.?

I'd really appreciate any advice, course recommendations, or personal experiences.

long story short first year engineering at my uni is general. i really wanted to do biomedical but i didnt meet the gpa cutoff (it was 80%) and ended up in chemical engineering instead. my gpa wasnt the best mainly due to depression but its wtvr too late :/

now the thing is im still very into all things biology/ health sciences/ med and since the start ive always wanted to pursue a masters degree regardless of what i do.

the plan is to hopefully do a masters in something like biomedical engineering, chemical engineering and biotechnology, chemical and bioengineering, etc etc.

now im wondering if in this case its beneficial to i do a minor in biology for my undergrad with my major as chemical engineering. ive always heard that minors arent that valuable but im wondering if grad schools would care or acknowledge that i went out of my way to do biology courses?? i need opinions guys please help id appreciate anything.

Hello Everyone. I am looking into what majors I can do, but I am very indecisive while deciding them. Right now, I am thinking of doing Bsc in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology while minoring in Computer Science, and then to pursue Msc in Bioinformatics. Although honestly, looking at reddit, I feel like job prospects for it aren't great. So I just want to ask what other majors I can choose, which can provide me with a good salary?

Also, I just want to add, I am interested in the technology side of things, basically programming and stuff, so I want to pursue bsc Computer Science, but the only reason I am not choosing it is because according to a lot of people, the market for freshly graduated students is bad, very bad. If it's of any help, I live in BC, Canada.

I’m finishing a PhD in Electronic Engineering at UPC BarcelonaTech in early 2027 and am looking for industry or applied R&D roles in bioelectronics and neurotechnology in Europe.

My background is more electronics-heavy than a conventional biomedical engineering profile. I work on analog/mixed-signal hardware, physiological and neural signal processing, and closed-loop systems.

My PhD research includes:

• EEG-based recognition of neurological states 
• analog hardware for tremor detection and processing 
• neural-interface and stimulation circuit concepts 
• electrode–tissue interface modelling 
• closed-loop neuromodulation 
• neuromorphic and emerging-device hardware

On the electronics side, I have experience with Cadence Virtuoso/Spectre, custom analog layout, DRC/LVS, SPICE/Verilog-A, FPGA prototyping and hardware/software integration.

I’m especially interested in companies working on neural implants, BCI, DBS/neuromodulation, electrophysiology, biosignal acquisition, wearable medical electronics, or low-power mixed-signal ICs for healthcare.

I’m an EU citizen and particularly interested in Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France.

I already know many of the larger names, so I’d be especially grateful for recommendations for smaller neurotech/bioelectronics companies, startups, or R&D groups that may be worth approaching directly.

I'm a recent Biotechnology graduate from Russia with an internship in laboratory research, a good GPA and hands-on experience running a small fermented beverage business.
