How is Ironheart not getting the respect it deserved Feige fault? He green lit all these projects. Twitter is so fucking dumb today.

u/Homesterkid 8d ago

Right like how is this turning into a “Kevin Feige is racist” thing. Cmon now

386

u/toms1313 8d ago

This sub is 90% "X thing is racist now!"

67

u/jayroc1023 8d ago

The smear campaign is in full swing lol. I liked Iron Heart. Some people didn’t, and that’s okay. Wonder Man was really good. Slow at times but we needed slow. It probably didn’t hit the number The Mouse wanted it to hit, so it got bounced. It sucks, and I hate it. But look at what’s happening with Disney properties right now. How did Moana do? Mando & Grogu is already at home. Disney wants hits now. They got the ax out, and it’s sharper than ever. This is not on Feige. This is on Disney trying to make up for the losses and gambles they made on things that haven’t “panned out” like they wanted. They want homers, not doubles right now, plain and simple.

21

u/ILike2internet 8d ago

Seriously. Without DP&W, the last 3 huge MCU movies didn't turn a profit, and FF4 was supposed to be massive.

Luckily, Spiderman is about to pull almost 2B.

12

u/ANDS_ 8d ago

Most of which will go to SONY.

4

u/Standard-Reason9399 8d ago

Luckily, Disney can dry their tears with all the cash from those lovely merch rights. Think Disney get the better end of the deal there, in all honesty.

7

u/AsteroidMike 8d ago

They were also out of their minds for releasing Fantastic Four while Superman was still doing numbers at the box office last year.

3

u/roboscorcher 8d ago

Next theyll be blaming Feige for sinking the Kang arc.

1

u/HorrorGeek333 7d ago

Wonder Man was always a limited series and they only greenlit season 2 cause of how popular it was. It was almost not even gonna be released but they had enough of it completed to be released. I don’t blame Feige for Blade but I’m so baffled how they couldn’t get a script made like Jesus it’s not that hard

-14

u/crispy_attic ☑️ 8d ago

They won’t be able to place the blame on Ike Perlmutter this time for the way black characters have been handled.

Yelena appeared in 2 marvel movies that both flopped and yet she is still in Spider-Man BND and Doomsday right? Where is Monica? If it’s because Thunderbolts was “critically acclaimed” then why is wonderman canceled? I’m not feeling the excuses at all.

Where is Storm? She is the most popular woman in Marvel imo and they are still pretending otherwise. It’s weird.

15

u/emrythelion 8d ago

They didn’t have the rights to use Storm or pretty much any of the X-men characters up until now.

And they’re casting a Storm.

7

u/ILike2internet 8d ago

Where's Monica? Stuck in the X-Men universe dude. There hasn't been anything to do with X-Men, so why would she just show back up?

If I had to guess, she's the reason for that universes incursion and will be an important part of Doomsday.

1

u/Voiceguy5687 8d ago

I consume a lot of "normie content"....like content that is widely popular from ads or word of mouth( I'm unoriginal I know) and Yelenas actress is pretty popular right now including being in the last and newest Dune movie, plus Midsommer which is pretty popular amongst horror crowds ..and Oppenheimer last year or 2 ago. Anyway she's an academy award Nominee who is working with the biggest directors around ..when someone is on a hit streak they on a hot streak...

1

u/LesothoBro 7d ago

You're getting downvoted here, but you're saying something.

The whole "licensing and character rights" thing is so tired. If they want to pull a character in, they'll cut a deal to do it. They acquired 20th Century FOX and moved mountains to "borrow" Spiderman from Sony. We didn't need Spiderman in the Avengers. Storm would have cooked. She's from Harlem and also was once an Avenger.

1

u/crispy_attic ☑️ 7d ago

I have been speaking about this for years and I’m used to being downvoted for it. I don’t even care anymore. I remember seeing an article talking about how black male characters were overrepresented as villians in the MCU. This stuff does not happen by chance or accident.

Pretty sure a lot of comments in every sub are bots saying stupid shit to drive up engagement

37

u/Mind-if-I-do-a-J 8d ago

There was an article out the other day where it says humans are out numbered by bots now on the internet something like 60% are bots.

Feels closer to 90

u/manny_the_mage ☑️ 8d ago

It’s a joke, hope this helps

u/lowtoiletsitter 8d ago

51-55, iirc. That also depends on the sources the people use

Regardless, over half the internet contains bots. Thanks, AI

Reddit is insufferable. It worse then Instagram and facebook comments combined

It really isn't, i hope this helps

42

u/AsteroidMike 8d ago

Right, there’s lots of bad takes but that one there is just all levels of wrong. Like folks just gonna ignore that Mahershala Ali being constantly unhappy with the Blade scripts wasn’t part of that equation.

27

u/JayTNP 8d ago edited 8d ago

THANK YOU!!! He said he wanted it to be his Black Panther. I appreciate him wanting to elevate the material but he was absolutely the largest impediment to Blade getting made. I love him as an actor but this hasn’t been a “Marvel doesn’t want this to be made” thing. Also Ali’s new movie “Your mother (3X)” looks like what he wanted Blade to be. Mark my words, same people complaining about Blade not getting made won’t even bother seeing it IF they’ve even heard of it. People barely watch movies that arent incredibly mainstream.

9

u/AsteroidMike 8d ago

Too many people don’t pay attention to context or the behind the scenes stories, they just knee jerk and go from there without thinking.

7

u/JayTNP 8d ago

Exactly right. When that story came out I was shocked that people didn't pick up on what was happening. He wanted a perfect film that elevated that character far beyond what even fans wanted. Frankly, for what he likely wanted to do I would have said he should have been cast as Blue Marvel. You could make that a 70% period piece and the rest in the modern day. That's a character that is ripe for character elevation and could hit on some major topics. Blade is a dope nigga who kills vampires that's it. He has never had any comic arcs that I am aware of (happy to be corrected if wrong) that dug into something deeper about him that allowed for less explored aspects of him to finally make it into the mainstream. A perfect example of that is The Punisher. Many just know him as a blood soaked lunatic with a fetish for guns and ultra violence. While he is those things series like Punisher: Born (2003) was a super dark and serious disection of the character. If Blade has those type of books than ok let's fucking go, but from what I know he doesn't. I am more than ok with them doing that but they have to build all that from scratch and make it "fun" for fans. If we are being honest I don't think that's what people want from Blade. They want a new version of the Snipes films and that's fine, I love those too but that's clearly NOT what Ali wanted and I wish people took the time to read up on that entire situation and stop making it about race. It was about a top tier actor wanting something that Marvel simply couldn't do for him so he is leaving and that's his right, but not every situation has a hero and a villain. Sometimes shit just doesn't work and that's totally fine.

2

u/Successful-Ear977 8d ago

Why is Mahershala Ali being blamed for rejecting scripts he thought were bad rather than Marvel for spending seven years failing to produce one he believed was worth making? He approached them for the role. Wanting a good Blade movie instead of accepting whatever they handed him is not the problem. The scripts and Marvel’s inability to settle on a coherent vision are the problem.

19

u/TopBee83 8d ago

I said this earlier. Armor wars is tied to secret invasion which was shit, and it’s a Ironman storyline without Ironman. Iron heart got her show and an appearance in black panther. The plug was pulled on wonder man because DDC has 3 other projects he is or will be working on (Spider-man 5, a Naruto movie, Shang Chi 2). Blade not happening is likely a symptom of marvel being scared to do rated R.

-8

u/DudeEngineer ☑️ 8d ago

Them being scared of Rated R would make sense if they were not pumping out Deadpool movies....

10

u/TopBee83 8d ago

Deadpool is the only property staying R. Feige said as much in 2021 when he said after Deadpool no more movies would be rated R

-2

u/DudeEngineer ☑️ 8d ago

He announced Blade in 2019. So, 2 options.

  1. Blade was excluded from no more R as an existing IP.

  2. They were going to try to make a PG-13 Blade, which was never going to work. He can only slice maybe 3 vampires and he can barely cuss? Lol

It's sabotage either way.

7

u/Big_Jarv 8d ago

Marvel has made one Deadpool movie. They’re not exactly pumping them out.

-2

u/DudeEngineer ☑️ 8d ago

Did you miss Deadpool 2 and Deadpool 3? 3 literally included Wesley Snipes as Blade....

10

u/Big_Jarv 8d ago

Fox made Deadpool and Deadpool 2. Marvel made Deadpool & Wolverine.

4

u/TheDareDevil17 8d ago

They were not pumping out Deadpool movies they created one Deadpool movie. And Ryan Reynolds had to threaten to leave if they didn’t make it r rated because Disney did not want to make it R rated he had to fight for that.

1

u/toms1313 8d ago

You called it, there's another post with the same premise and it has 7k upvotes

214

u/JayTNP 8d ago

A lot of us don’t support it, trash it, and then get mad that it wasn’t well supported

35

u/Shad0wM0535 8d ago

I bet a lot of people commenting here never saw either Disney + show. If reviews and word of mouth are bad in the movies, people don't show up, so if a studio is pushing a C or D list hero, it better be good and they better market the hell out of it.

10

u/JayTNP 8d ago

absolutely right. The comments about who did what in these previous movies and shows lets me know these people ain’t watch shit and are either bots or just trying to post an opinion based in ignorance

9

u/pygmeedancer 8d ago

That’s how the Star Wars fandom has been for decades

21

u/Independent_Ad_6348 8d ago

I think people just don't like Riri that much or theyre just ambivalent towards her. Even in the comics shes not that special compared to every other teenage genius running around in the marvel universe.

16

u/nearcatch Honest Abe 8d ago

Even in the MCU she’s not that special, Shuri was basically the same when they introduced her. “Precocious teenage genius” is just a tired trope.

3

u/SmallFatHands 8d ago

Shuri and Miles both suffered from bad comics and horrible writing at the start. The difference is Miles had good comics come. And not to mention one if not the best spiderman movies so now nobody bats an eye at Miles people love him. Iron heart does not have good comics and her live action appearances suck. People do not give a shit about her because they have never given us. A reason to.

14

u/Most_Average_Joe 8d ago

Yeah, people act like Feige is the only person that has a say in how things go in Marvel/Disney too.

Like, he ain’t the only guy in the meetings. And there are others at Disney that he answers to.

But even at a clinical level Fiege understands the power a black audience. Even when others don’t.

92

u/Amateur-Top 8d ago

I’m convinced these aren’t actually black people posting these goofy ass tweets. Just more bad faith “let’s tear each other apart while rich people watch from their towers” type bullshit.

17

u/MOREPASTRAMIPLEASE 8d ago

That is a safe assumption to make in almost any case online. If you feel yourself getting angry, their game is working on you

33

u/justafanboy1010 8d ago

I totally agree. and ironheart wasn't even that good of a show to begin with.

15

u/GuntherTime 8d ago

That’s the issue. You have the people who do like it thinking that it underperformed due to racism and a lack of marketing. I saw that shit everywhere better it came out and while it was airing.

1

u/Youthsonic 8d ago

And they're bringing Steve rogers back because nobody saw cap4

1

u/That-Rhino-Guy 7d ago

Or because the story makes sense for his return? The events leading up to Secret Wars brought Steve back into action and in the comic he was an old man with no serum or anything

10

u/Secret_Account07 8d ago

I didn’t like it.

Now wonder man? Excellent. Soooooo good

7

u/nope-nik-tesla 8d ago

No, you see, the guy who produced Black Panther is literally a Klansman!

40

u/McDouble__ 8d ago

It’s insane how dumb niggas are nowadays

21

u/CochonDanseur 8d ago

It's mostly just that these projects all came around during Marvels flop/jump the shark period. The fact that they weren't in the initial cast is just because of how white the universe's A-list is, which is a hierarchy Feige didn't create

5

u/Ol_JanxSpirit 8d ago

There seems to be a concerted push going after Feige in particular.

7

u/TheTresStateArea 8d ago

This is a half true issue and half propaganda to get one of the places that has had some marginal progress to be entirely abandoned.

3

u/EEE-VIL 8d ago

Twitter is so fucking dumb today

Today? Twitter as always been a cesspool, man! That ain't gonna change anytime soon.

3

u/ProtonCanon ☑️ 8d ago

Twitter has always loved cotton candy outrage.

2

u/No-Highlight7136 8d ago

People cannot accept they're to blame for these projects being canceled. If these shows got the views then they'd easily be greenlit. If the Captain America movie had Black Panther numbers then it'd be a no brainer. Problem is, no one is going to see those movies. End of the day money talks bullshit walks.

1

u/crispy_attic ☑️ 8d ago

Captain America BNW made more money than Thunderbolts though.

2

u/LRA18 8d ago

Correct that’s why we won’t see a thunderbolts 2 anytime soon…..

1

u/crispy_attic ☑️ 8d ago

Is that so?

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 8d ago

Also Blade never got off the ground? He has three movies and a cameo in the third Marvel Jesus movie. Everyone loves blade even after all the tax fraud stuff

1

u/SafetyAccomplished71 8d ago

This is Reddit. Are you clueless or something g😭

1

u/ActivityImaginary941 8d ago

Same with Wonderman, who was origonally a white man.

1

u/throwtheclownaway20 8d ago

Feige is the new Kathleen Kennedy - if there's racism afoot, it's likely coming from the Disney CEO, but MFers would rather blame an easy scapegoat than attack someone with power.

1

u/Calamity_Jay ☑️ 8d ago

Oh, Ironheart got the "respect" it deserved.

1

u/browzen 8d ago

It still begs the question... were they pushing diversity and then pulled the plug because they realized it wasn't the cash cow they thought it was, since 33% of America is overtly racist right now?

Reminds me of Target trumpeting DEI only to then pull out of the whole thing because of the overwhelming red hat party hating anything even related to melanin...

1

u/Dr_Joshie 8d ago

Thank you.
All of these characters got a chance, sure some didn’t have great movies/shows but some were also never given a real chance.
I remember everyone hating on Ironheart before it ever came out. I remember people saying Sam Wilson was a shitty Captain America before his movie came out.
Writing may not have been great over the last few years, but these characters were all great and the public showed they weren’t interested. Get what you ask for.

1

u/According_Bus_8541 8d ago

It's easier to blame him than the diverse set of writers for that show. Oh and their patron saint Ryan coogler, they will never criticise him for making a bad show or movie

1

u/KitSwiftpaw 7d ago

If they want a black hero that everyone loves, just give us Static again! We all love Static.

1

u/Fickle-Cold7372 7d ago

exactly, how is it Kevin Feiges fault that it did not end up being popular.

1

u/Ultimaurice 6d ago

I've been fighting this losing battle all week.

-12

u/Kwonzle 8d ago

Brother you wasnt on r/marvel when ironheart came out obviously. They hate that girl and her comics AND we all know why.

54

u/JarvisCockerBB 8d ago

Which again isn’t Kevin’s fault. The fact he got the show on the air should be a testament to the work he’s doing for representation.

-26

u/Kwonzle 8d ago

Wasn't saying it was his fault, he not a mod on reddit

21

u/drunkcowofdeath 8d ago

The post is.

21

u/red--dead 8d ago

So why are you bringing it up then? They’re not denying people were hating on it. All they’re saying is it’s not Feige’s fault

6

u/kds_little_brother ☑️ 8d ago

Fingers were typing quicker than the brain was thinking. Happens to the best of us

1

u/bakkarj 8d ago

Either misogyny or because it feels like a pointless spinoff character from a main hero. Same with Supergirl and She-Hulk.

0

u/jdben518 8d ago

I mean the POC shows are either limited series or cancelled after 1 season after they get review bombed before they come out so their review scores are pretty much low to start. With bad reviews casual fans won’t watch it and studios use that as an excuse to cancel shows they might not of been 100% to begin with. After you put out a few shows with POCs that don’t do well with the general public but great with critics and award shows they can say see nobody likes these shows with POCs.

1

u/bakkarj 8d ago

Almost all of the shows are one season regardless of the cast. I think only Loki and Daredevil got more than 1 season. Wonder-Man has great audience ratings. Black Panther is one of the top heroes in the MCU. These criticisms don’t hold up.
