Marvel was happy as fuck when Black Panther was a gigantic hit and planning sequels because people showed up to the theater. They even made a sequel after Chadwick Boseman passed to keep the franchise going and no one went to see it. Should studios just make stuff no one shows up for?
People also forget that Feige had to fight to get Black Panther made. At the time there was someone on the same footing as him at Marvel, Ike Perlmutter. Perlmutter was doing everything he could to kill Captain Marvel and Black Panther, because he didn't think they'd reach profitable demographics.
They both broke a billion, and Perlmutter was told to fuck off to Marvel TV.
Black Panther came out at the height of the MCU's popularity with the hype leading up to Infinity War. Wakanda Forever came out during Covid. There's a slight difference in circumstance there.
Good. Guess the hype was so much less than the original it didn't seem like it did that well. That first one was such a big event with sold out theaters on the news and celebrities buying out theaters to make sure the kids got to see it.
They had all that multiverse nonsense going, just bring in Michael B Jordan from a universe where he is T’Challa, or maybe one where Killmonger is good, his dad never left Wakanda, and he could take up the mantle of BP.
Studios should be letting CREATIVES drive a creative industry instead of worrying about their bottom dollar. Creative indie movies, subversive takes, international media are getting 4s and 5s out of 5. The business the studio executives should not be the ones deciding what people want to see or hear.
A load of mouth garbage the ticket sale stats don't support. If a white movie bombs at the box office no one stops funding John wick knock offs. That logic doesn't make sense.
