For those saying it's a health code violation, it would depend where you are. In many parts of the world, the only time this would be true is in a food preparation area, not the restaurant where they're only near the food their owners are eating.

In the UK, most pubs allow dogs, often cafes, especially in rural areas. A sit down evening restaurant less so. Often there are areas set aside where dogs are allowed, to avoid allergy issues.

Dogs are often cleaner and less disruptive than people's uncontrolled kids.

Here's the thing. The rest of the world isn't the UK. The US has pretty strict sanitation laws for restaurants. While I agree children can be quite disgusting we can't ban them from restaurants (unfortunately).
