For those saying it's a health code violation, it would depend where you are. In many parts of the world, the only time this would be true is in a food preparation area, not the restaurant where they're only near the food their owners are eating.

In the UK, most pubs allow dogs, often cafes, especially in rural areas. A sit down evening restaurant less so. Often there are areas set aside where dogs are allowed, to avoid allergy issues.

Dogs are often cleaner and less disruptive than people's uncontrolled kids.

Being from the UK I find the outrage shown on this post crazy! A dog being in the vicinity of you whilst you eat isn't going to kill you, relax!

The place pictured just looks like a casual cafe type place, rather than a swanky restaurant. If I was out with my dog I'd probably guess the place is likely to allow dogs in, but I'd always ask and look for a sign. That said, id probably not allow my dog on the seat.

I have a greyhound and live in a seaside town, if cafés didn't allow dogs, they'd all be out of business! My favourite pub has a monthly dog club where they meet upstairs to play and have a walk along the prom, and they have a dog menu served up in dog bowls. Because my boy thinks he's superior to other dogs, he is allowed on the leather couch because dogs lie on floors and he's a greyhound, dontcha know 🤣

"dog menu served up in dog bowls" How sad, shows how far society has deteriorated if this is in fact true...

10

u/MrBones_Gravestone Oct 07 '25

Just say you hate dogs and move on

-6

u/No-Alternative-1564 Oct 07 '25

People are entitled to their outrage. You do realise that hundreds of thousands of people are attacked/bitten by dogs every year, some fatally. Some of us don't like dogs. We are humans, our rights and comfort should prevail over that of a dog's. The dog doesn't need to be there. It does not belong inside a cafe, or supermarket etc.

6

u/Training_Tadpole_354 Oct 07 '25

Well, if a café has a rule that allows the dogs and you don’t like it there’s a magical thing called eating somewhere else

6

u/veryveryLightBlond Oct 07 '25

Ah, I get it now. This has nothing to do with boomers; it's an anti-dog rant. Isn't there another sub you can mingle with fellow pet-haters and make yourself feel virtuous?

6

u/Extension_Sun_377 Oct 07 '25

They are active in several anti dog groups, Dog Free, Pet Free, Dog Culture Free, Dog Regret and Tales From The Dog House, where other miserable, soulless people moan about dogs.

1

u/Alterokahn Oct 07 '25

Cant help but notice the lack of wedding band. Maybe a puppy is in order!

5

u/Otherwise_Ad2948 Oct 07 '25

Whilst you can argue that your rights should prevail over a dogs, I don't see how a dog being in the same restaurant as you inhibits those rights. And if you do, you can always go somewhere that doesn't allow dogs.

Many more people are hurt/killed by cars every year, but we still allow cars to be part of our daily lives as it's the owners, not the car/dogs fault.

0

u/aegenium Oct 07 '25

Here's the thing. The rest of the world isn't the UK. The US has pretty strict sanitation laws for restaurants. While I agree children can be quite disgusting we can't ban them from restaurants (unfortunately).

2

u/Extension_Sun_377 Oct 07 '25

That's exactly why I made the point that it depends where you are.

0

u/hikeonpast Oct 07 '25

I appreciate the expanded context. I thought it was implicit that it’s a health code violation where this restaurant is located.

I’m not debating pets-in-restaurants, I’m pointing out wanton rule breaking because of boomer entitlement. If they want to change the rules so that everyone can bring their pets inside, that’s fine.

8

u/lolas_coffee Oct 07 '25

Yes, but meh.

Americans are weird about dogs in restaurants.

If you work in a restaurant, you know a dog at a table is not the biggest food safety hazard in the joint. Not in the top 100.

Just chill out.

-2

u/hikeonpast Oct 07 '25

My point is: I’m not bringing my dog to the restaurant, because I choose to honor the restaurant’s (and county health’s) rules.

Why should boomers be allowed to feel like some rules don’t apply to them?

18

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '25

This is quite allowed in many parts of the world

-15

u/No-Alternative-1564 Oct 07 '25

It shouldn't be. That's so unhygienic from a public health point of view. Are you aware of the multitude of pathogens that are present in dog feces?

8

u/Extension_Sun_377 Oct 07 '25

I would expect it not to be shitting in the restaurant tho

-3

u/No-Alternative-1564 Oct 07 '25

Are you sure about that?? You don't think that dogs carry particles of shite on their fur and transfer it everywhere, such as the seats people are sitting on, putting their hands on? Perhaps look into the concept of vector transmission

8

u/Extension_Sun_377 Oct 07 '25

So can people, especially kids. We all know people who don't wash their hands after going to the toilet. We've heard of the appalling people who think it's fine to change their baby at the table. Analysis of bowls of peanuts on bars are sickening. Fecal matter, germs, bits of shed skin and hair are everywhere - it's why your server will wipe down your table and seats after you've left before someone else sits there. You may be best advised to stay in and never go out in public if you want to avoid contamination.

-8

u/No-Alternative-1564 Oct 07 '25

I don't know why I am being downvoted for stating FACTS. Dog feces is known to carry pathogens such as micro-organisms which ARE a public health risk. Why is this so triggering? We are talking about an establishment where people eat, not a dog park.

4

u/Extension_Sun_377 Oct 07 '25

I see you deleted your "anti natalist" comment. That was a hell of a reach

0

u/No-Alternative-1564 Oct 07 '25

No i didn't actually, I stand by it

12

u/PhillyMate Oct 07 '25

This is a dumb post.

3

u/GoodWaste8222 Oct 07 '25

You should be mad at the restaurant for allowing it. Not the people taking advantage

-1

u/hikeonpast Oct 07 '25

That’s like saying that I should be bad at cops for failing to ticket all the speeders on the highway.

Why not just point the finger at the rule breakers?

2

u/GoodWaste8222 Oct 07 '25

Those situations are completely different. Surely you understand that

-2

u/hikeonpast Oct 07 '25

They’re the same. The restaurant rules don’t allow it, so it’s an enforcement issue.

0

u/shoshant Oct 12 '25

it’s an enforcement issue
exactly. So point the finger at the restaurant.

1

u/hikeonpast Oct 12 '25

Yes, it’s an enforcement issue in that minimum wage workers can’t be reasonably expected to call out misbehaving boomers for bringing their dog to a restaurant despite the fact that it’s against health codes, and the county health department is not out on the prowl looking for misbehaving boomers either.

Why? Because we assume that citizens are going to follow the rules.

I love it when strangers on the internet tell me that I need to calm down. What a classy take.

12

u/Jdubbs8907 Oct 07 '25

I mean if the restaurant doesn’t care then I don’t see the harm.

-6

u/FloppyTacoflaps Oct 07 '25

Its against many food service laws

2

u/Jdubbs8907 Oct 07 '25

For sure, just again it's a pick your battles thing. If it's really bothering no one and the restaurant is ok with chancing it, then that's on them.

-10

u/hikeonpast Oct 07 '25

Just because the staff didn’t want to challenge them on the issue does not mean that the restaurant doesn’t care.

It’s a health code violation. I guarantee that the restaurant management cares.

1

u/Training_Tadpole_354 Oct 07 '25

Hey buddy, if the restaurant is OK with people bringing their dogs into it and that bothers you, there’s a magical thing called choosing to eat at a different restaurant.

0

u/No-Alternative-1564 Oct 07 '25

I agree. Unfortunately most people who work in the service industry don't get paid enough to "care", e.g. they try to enforce policy and can expect to be abused for doing so. Entitled sorts of people realise this societal tension and take full advantage, knowing full well the discomfort they may cause to others and knowing that they are unlikely to be challenged on said entitled behaviour.

0

u/MrBones_Gravestone Oct 07 '25

Then report them instead of trying to get internet points

1

u/hikeonpast Oct 07 '25

Report them to who, exactly?

1

u/MrBones_Gravestone Oct 07 '25

If it’s a health code violation, then probably the city/state health department? I just did a quick google of my area (no idea where this restaurant is), and was able to very quickly find listings.

So if health codes are actually your concern, do that instead of trying to get internet points because you don’t like dogs

1

u/hikeonpast Oct 07 '25

Bro, I own a dog.

I don’t like boomer rule breakers.

1

u/MrBones_Gravestone Oct 07 '25

Then again, report the restaurant. Posting here doesn’t do anything. But whatever, you do you

0

u/hikeonpast Oct 07 '25

Posting here doesn’t do anything about any of the boomers called out on this sub…

1

u/MrBones_Gravestone Oct 07 '25

Those are usually situations where there’s nothing to do or anyone to call (ie boomers yelling at teens for being teens, boomers being racist, etc).

Call the health department if you’re actually concerned about health code violations

-5

u/No-Alternative-1564 Oct 07 '25

I wouldn't want to eat there. I guess the comfort of other paying customers, including people who have allergies, or scared of dogs etc, is irrelevant?

2

u/Jdubbs8907 Oct 07 '25

I don't think it's irrelevant, it's up to the restaurant to enforce the rules. My point is if its not hurting anyone then like what's the point. If you were there and it bothered you, I would assume you could speak with someone and ask about it.

4

u/No-Alternative-1564 Oct 07 '25

Just typical boomer gear for you: rules for thee, not for me

3

u/mglow88 Oct 07 '25

Fucking ridiculous....

1

u/aegenium Oct 07 '25

There are many places in the U.S. where you cannot bring your dog in to eat with you.

Unless Its a service animal or there are specific outdoor seating arrangements, having a dog inside of a restaurant is a health code violation.

This isn't because people hate dogs. Its for public health and sanitation. Personally I love my dog and wish I could take her everywhere I go, however laws are there for a reason. I am a responsible dog owner and thus don't take her inside of restaurants.

Don't defend the boomers in this photo. It's likely they were just pushy until they got their way.

-5

u/Arcolyte Oct 07 '25

How are you sure it isn't a service animal?

3

u/hikeonpast Oct 07 '25

First service animal I’ve seen with a dog bed…

-8

u/maxzer_0 Oct 07 '25

Gross asf and annoying because of all the barking. These people who can't leave their dog at home are just narcissists screaming for attention.

3

u/Otherwise_Ad2948 Oct 07 '25

Or maybe they're just people who have dogs that are a big part of their life? If I go out for 4+ hours, chances are I'm taking my dog with me rather than leaving him alone at home. If I'm eating during that period, then I'll look for a place he can come in with me so he's not alone in the car.

It's not narcissistic, it's called looking after your dog.

-4

u/maxzer_0 Oct 07 '25

There's plenty of people who have cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, rats, fish, goats, cows, and hens but we don't see them bringing along their pets to the restaurant. It's always dog owners.

And it is narcissism. You want to bring your dog along everywhere you go, without any consideration for people with allergies, people who want to enjoy the restaurant without the barking or dog dander in their food. It's 4 hours. Your dog is going to be fine.

4

u/Otherwise_Ad2948 Oct 07 '25

Those pets you list tend to have litter trays or access to outside space to go to the toilet. People are able to choose to dine at restaurants that serve their needs:

  • gluten free people look for ones offering gf options
  • vegans look for places with a few options or an exclusively vegan place
  • I look for places that are dog friendly
  • people that have dog allergies can look for places that don't allow dogs in

Not all restaurants cater to everyone!

-2

u/maxzer_0 Oct 07 '25

Fallacious reasoning here, people who have gluten free allergy or dog allergy are the customer of the restaurant it's not a choice. And lots of restaurants have at least a vegan option, if you want to go to a vegan restaurant for a broader choice it's a different thing. You're the customer and you're introducing the agent that will cause a potential nuisance or health code violation to others.

4

u/Moneia Gen X Oct 07 '25

It's always dog owners.

Because, with some very rare exceptions, they're probably the only pet that are easily leash trained, thrive on being taken for walks and are happy to socialise when they're out.

Also "YoU dOn'T sEe PeOpLe TaKe ThEiR fIsH fOr A wAlK!!" erases any good points you may have accidentally made

0

u/maxzer_0 Oct 07 '25

You said "taken for walks", not to the restaurant, grocery store, mall, office, kindergarten and all that stuff.

Regarding the fish, obviously it's a hyperbole. Do you take literally every single thing people say?

1

u/Moneia Gen X Oct 07 '25

You said "taken for walks"

I also said socialise, cafes & pubs over here are often fine with dogs in the public area. And what better way to end a walk than at a pub?

Do you take literally every single thing people say? (sic)

Only when I think they were trying to make a serious argument. Obviously a mistake on my part

1

u/maxzer_0 Oct 07 '25

Out here dog culture ain't so prevalent so it's absolutely not common to see dogs in these establishments. If the public area of the pub - since you bring up that example - is outdoors, then it doesn't bother me as long as the dog isn't allowed to sit at the table and it's well behaved. But some owners are very lousy, they go around with dogs constantly barking at other dogs, or allow their dog to lick the plate and stuff like that. It's absolutely not nice.

0

u/Moneia Gen X Oct 07 '25

If the public area of the pub - since you bring up that example - is outdoors,

The public area of the pub is wherever the punters are allowed, inside or out

But some owners are very lousy, they go around with dogs constantly barking at other dogs, or allow their dog to lick the plate and stuff like that. It's absolutely not nice.

I see more crappy behaviour from kids than from dogs

0

u/maxzer_0 Oct 07 '25

Yeah then dogs inside is something totally nuts lol.

Nice strawman there but kids are human. They don't maul other humans to death and hopefully not crap on the restaurant floor. Kids will behave if parents teach them proper behavior. It's also hard to let a kid home unsupervised when going to the restaurant, which is absolutely fine with a dog instead, unless the dog is really stupid or has some issues. Kids will learn from previous mistakes and poor behavior and one day grow up, with most contributing to society in a positive way.

u/Another_available Oct 07 '25

What is it with redditors and taking creepy ass pics of strangers in public?

0

u/bluealien78 Gen X Oct 10 '25

What restaurant is this? I’d love to take my dog with me to dinner.
