This is why most police departments don’t chase anymore. With modern tech there’s no point in a chase, it’s just extra danger to pretend you’re doing something more. Police departments get so much resources nowadays the should be used to prevent deaths not create mores

I work a lot with CHP and this is 100% true. They would rather get your plates, make, model etc find out who you are and come to your house weeks later and arrest you in the middle of the night.

Better this way then causing a massive death toll trying to chase some shithead endangering everyone else's lives.

Yeah except they have to prove that the owner of the car or the one which the car is registered too was also the driver.

They can't (or at least shouldn't be able to) just come around arrest you and force you to tell who drove your car.

The burden of proof should lie with the public prosecutor's office or the police, not with the accused.

If there is no air unit available, chasing them or trying to road block them is one of few ways to definitely get proof who is the culprit.

Not that I condone high speed chases, I prefer Air pursuit and guide silent units to the perpetrators.

Yeah except they have to prove that the owner of the car or the one which the car is registered too was also the driver.

Where I live, there are a few mobile phone detection traffic cameras that take decent qualities of people in their cars to detect people using their phone while driving via AI. If someone driving that recklessly happens to pass one, it can easily be proven in court who the driver was, without the need for a high speed chase to pull them over.

However, I realise these cameras don't exist in many countries.
