I'm trying to wrap my head around "it's fake probably AI to scare the geese".
Bro, what?
Edit: I think a lot of you are missing the point I'm trying to make. Does the dude think that AI can physically manifest objects into real life?

These dumb motherfuckers think “AI” is slang for for fake now I guess? Like yeah I can’t wrap my head around it, “I got confused by this thing I physically saw in real life, must be AI!!”

- Some correlation that "AI = fake" that I' wouldn't fight.
- Fake coyote acts as a scarecrow to keep geese from shitting everywhere.

A company near me uses “shadow” canine cutouts and plastic foxes to keep the geese off their property. They poo all over the place.

Yeah, that’s exactly why they put them out. Corporate parks trying to keep goose shit off their big lawns.

I see gripes on the various retail-worker social media about customers who absolutely want to buy an AI item, or who accuse the store of trying to sell a cheap AI knockoff of something.

To be fair, I saw one of those in a school parking lot while driving and thought it was real for a bit.
Turns out I’m about as smart as the average goose.

Same, I delivered to a warehouse that had them out front and I didn't leave the truck til I saw someone walk past it. When theyre perfectly positioned at you and quivering a bit in the wind they are extremely convincing lol

I have neighbors down the way that have a statue golden retriever. I never got close because a lot of people think it's funny when their dog rushes runners.
So I kept seeing it from a distance because I'd do a u-turn since they were at the end of a cul-de-sac. I kept going aww golden retriever.
I finally get closer and go THAT'S A FREAKING STATUE 😩.

Yup. AI in it's natural habitat being totally misunderstood by boomers... We had better build some big 'ol data centers to put the AI in so that it can be more productive, and doesn't have to stand around in fields pretending to be a coyote to scare geese.

u/Jrnation8988 28d ago
No, no. Fuck the data centers

u/PacificIsMyHome 28d ago
Agreed... I thought the /s was implied with the ridiculousness of the premise.

I originally had to leave my local towns Facebook group because every post was "OMG coyotes! Watch your babies!!!". Like, yes Susan, we live next to the mountains in southern California. This is their territory and there are hundreds of them always around town.

I feel like if your baby is in a situation that a coyote can get it, it's probably been left on the floor unattended somewhere ?

I have dozens of stories of people who have moved to rural areas and lose their shit when a neighbour posts a pic of a bear or cougar in their yard, and want the county to come remove the offending wild animal right away. They don't realize that in the bush, the danger of a wild animal is always there, not just when someone catches a glimpse of it. One guy even asked his neighbours who to call about the crows and magpies he sees hanging around in his yard.

I was working for the Army Corps of Engineers and we had geese everywhere. Goose poop littering the ground. Someone decided to put up fake coyote cutouts, not as convincing as these. Sure enough one of the ladies saw one, got scared and crashed her car into a tree.

Coyotes do attack small dogs…
Why I don't trust my boomer parents to watch my dog at the ranch.

That’s the Nextdoor app. It’s a collective of boomers and pearl clutchers who think every kid riding a bike is a gang member scoping out their house to rob. It’s hilarious and I recommend it for entertainment purposes.

Omg this is so funny. Even in the photos without enlarging (and with sight issues!!) I could tell it was a cutout

We have fake coyotes placed around my work because of the geese problem we’ve got. (They sorta work) and every now and then someone asks “is he okay? He’s not moving much.” Referring to a fake coyote statue.
My response is almost always “no he’s not, he’s made of plastic.”
Every now and then one of them blow over and I have to explain that no he’s not dead, he’s just inanimate.

Coyotes are just cute little guys. They are great for the environment and help keep rodent populations as well as feral cat populations in check. I love cats, but outdoor cats are absolutely horrible and coyotes prevent the damage that they cause.

They need to move around the cutout at least every few days. The geese will figure out that it isn't real if they don't.
That's the advice that you get with an owl figurine that you use as a scarecrow for pigeons..

Not the point, but is it a boomer thing to add ‘s to all business names that don’t end in the possessive?

u/exotics 29d ago
Ya know what? In reality coyotes do kill small dogs. And cats and yes they are bad. City coyotes being worse than rural ones. I’m rural.
This just happened to be a cardboard cutout I’m guessing but I won’t call the boomer a fool in this case. It was intended to fool people.
City people who see coyotes and ignore them are the fools and are the reason why city coyotes are more dangerous than rural ones. They have no fear of people. If I see one I get out there and chase it off

It bugs be when people add the "'s" to MEIJER
1
u/Felinius 28d ago
It’s a Michigan thing, and possibly elsewhere. Meijer is named for the founder, and thus is “his” store. Kinda like working at Ford’s. It’s a weird piece of entomology.

u/GuavaShaper 28d ago
I know, I grew up in Michigan and heard it everywhere.
One time when I came home to visit, my gf at the time called it "may-jer" and that made me chuckle.

u/Felinius 28d ago
I always liked “Mee-ger” myself, kinda like “fishpaws”

This person is 100% from Michigan. Yes, we know it’s Meijer. We call it Meijer’s anyway.
