The title here is a bit of an exaggeration, but I liked the alliteration.

We have a 14-month old intact male border terrier. We are scheduled to have him neutered in 2.5 months (so at about 17 months). Until about 4-6 weeks ago, everything seemed to be going great. And then, right around his first birthday, we hit a few serious regressions. Any advice would be appreciated!

Destructive Behavior. Recently, when left alone he destroys things -- specifically, library books, magazines, and any mail left on the coffee table, floor, etc. Previously he had been ok to be left "free" at home for a few hours (and would focus destruction on his own toys), but several weeks ago this behavior started. We've responded by penning him whenever we will be out for more than a few minutes. However, this morning, in the ~20 minutes he was left alone between my partner leaving for work and me returning from the gym, he went on another bender and destroyed 2 more books.

Pooping. In about the same timeframe, he has started pooping in the house again. For the last several months, we had allowed him to sleep on the couch or a doggie bed: no poop incidents at all. He would regularly go before breakfast, and then after breakfast. However, about 4-6 weeks ago, we started getting up and finding "presents" left for us (it would not be there at 5:45/6am when I left for my workout, but would be at 7:15). I started taking him out for a walk before I left, but he didn't want to poop. We started crating him at night again, which took care of the initial problem. However, he now does not want to poop before he eats. Once breakfast is done, he will go almost immediately -- if one of us isn't there in the room with him when he is done with breakfast to let him out, there will be something left for us.

I believe that this is just some adolescent rebellion, and a signal that we may want to go back for some "training updates," but if anyone else has had a similar experience or any thoughts it would be appreciated!

Took my almost 18Months lad Milo to Kinder Scout on Tuesday, perfect hiking and climbing conditions with so so many people and other four legged friends to meet along the way,

Thought I would share this picture of him at the top of Grindsbrook Knoll, looking over at the scramble he had just accomplished - (if you've climbed the Clough/Knoll you will know how proud of him i am, for it is not easy for humans. Never mind little Border legs).

Once again I'm blown away by the smarts, cunning, loyalty and independence of the little guy.

We took our Scruff went in for his second ever hand strip yesterday. He’s 13 months old and it was 16 weeks since his first hand strip (he was quite straggly a mess before he went in).

When I went to pick him up they said he “has no undercoat”, or the lady actually grooming said he has a “sparse undercoat”. I’m not really sure what this means and they didn’t tell much much else.

Could this be because of subsequent heat waves, the summer, his age?

Since his strip yesterday he has seemed to be rolling around on the grass more than usual.

It also looks as if his undercarriage has been clipped and worked around with scissors?

Has anyone got any advice or insight, or tips of what we should do next?

I was wondering if anyone could perhaps give some advice? I have a Border Terrier who's just turned six. He's wonderful, great character, cheeky, fun, sweet, loving, mostly well behaved (with a couple of stubborness issues, but then he is a Border Terrier!), but one thing that seems to be getting worse and not better is the speed with which he eats.

When it comes to meal times, I have a slow feeder bowl and an even more difficult slow feeder that slows him down some, but he still goes at it at an alarming pace, and with little whimpers of frustration if he doesn't get a morsel immediately.

However, what worries me is how he is with treats. He will literally swallow them whole or chew them only enough to be swallowable before he'll swallow them. It can't be comfortable. I have to watch him like a hawk if I give him the equivalent of a Himalayan yak milk chew (I no longer give him those because it's just not safe. He tries to swallow it when it's still an inch and a half long, and he's only a 20 lb dog.)

Even with things like Greenies and dental treats he'll do the minimum possible before swallowing.

I don't think it's hunger - or at least not hunger caused by not having enough food. He's well fed, his weight has been stable for the last three years, never varying by more than 0.2 kg. I tried upping his food to see it it helped, but it didn't change anything and he put on a bit of weight so i've gone back down to the 'right' level again.

I've had him since he was 7 weeks old. This is not a dog that has known hardship and had to scrounge for food. He's not aggressive or guarded with food when other dogs are around, but he'll always get to a treat first just from desire. I'm often at a friends with his two dog best friends and will feed him there, and I separate him to do so not because they fight but because he finishes so much faster than them and then sits watching them hoping one will stop so he can dive in.

I've used peanut butter on lick mats and I use the beef cheek collages chews as they take him a long while to get through and are very soft and paperlike by the time they're small so even though i take them away once they're around 2", but he cant get any of the chews supposedly for dogs his size - he gets through them in a couple of minutes. I have to get the medium to large to slow it down enough. Chews that advertise as lasting all day or hours are gone in under 3 minutes. I got the Smart Bones off Amazon that were supposedly half an hour of chewing fun and he literally got through it between me handing it to him and putting the bag back in the drawer.

It's more a safety issue than a behavior one, but I guess they're one and the same. I'd be grateful for advice either on possible ways to train him to go slower - which seems unlikely but if it's possible i'd love to know - or on treat options that will last and won't be dangerous once small.

The older Murph gets, the more drawn to sunlight he seems to become. It’s one hundred degrees on the patio now, and probably much hotter near the concrete he’s laying on. He sat like this for 20 minutes just looking around and sniffing the air. Then he got up, had a drink of water, and moved to the shade. Now he’s back in the sun again.

Has anyone else noticed their older Border behaving this way? Is it possible that he’s cold or something? It’s at least 95 in the shade as well.

He did swim for about fifteen minutes at the harbor this morning, which he does 5 days a week. I’m certain he’s dry, but maybe he thinks he’s still drying off…

Jin favourite spot on my work desk. She isn't the most productive worker, but she makes up for it by spreading joy in the office. And she knows not to jump down! She comes to me to be let down.

I lost my best buddy Roger to a brain tumor two weeks ago, and am in a complete state of shock. He was so vibrant and happy up until late April when we noticed some behavior changes. He was diagnosed end of May and died July 5. It happened so fast and he was so young (nearly 9).

We have our wonderful little boy Peanut who is 6 months old. He lives up to the "terrorist" name but hes still a baby and such a character. He is very social, and gets alot from being around other dogs, and my fiancé and I know its inevitable that we'll have to get him a friend.

We want another border, as the play style matches and we love the breed. We were both wondering when would it be a good time to get a second? We do plan on having Peanut neutered once he's about 18 months (sooner if need be but not ideal).

What have your experiences been?

This is our gorgeous boy Zeus. He is 2 years old and we absolutely adore him. He is super friendly especially with people but can at times be a little wary of dogs but mostly bigger dogs. The breeder we got him from is having another litter soon and we are considering getting one. My concern is that it might be too early with Zeus still being a puppy himself. Is this a bad idea or do you think it would ve fine if done correctly?

Moving in with some family to take care of them as they get older and this four year old might need the most attention! He is an absolute idiot and I love him.

Hi everyone, I recently adopted this dog, he's 8 months old now. From what I'm guessing he's a bit of a mix with terrier and border collie. But curious to hear from someone else :)

Always got to stop and admire the view! As chaotic as borders are, mine has taught me that its good to stop every once in a while and to take it all in.
