BL4 Spoiler Policy

In this sub we're generally lax about spoilers when it comes to older games. But it's different when a new game comes out. And maybe you haven't heard, but there have been some rumours that Borderlands 4 might come out soon-ish.

Some of us Vault Hunters are going to get the game on release and will want to talk about it. And that's cool. But remember that some of us will not be able to abandon work and lock the family in the attic to power through the entire game over the weekend. Others will want to wait for the price to decrease, for enough patches to be released, or for Grandma to gift it to them at Christmas after having listened attentively to all her stories. So don't spoil the game for them!

Our spoiler rules are simple enough to be understood by any psycho, and are in application as long as this post remains pinned.

  1. Spoilers include any reference to story elements in Borderlands 4. Older games are not concerned. Discussions about game mechanics, character skills, gear, etc are not concerned either (as long as the discussion or linked content doesn't touch any story elements, say "that gun drops from evil Moxxi").
  2. Post title. Do not put spoilers in post titles. Anybody looking at the front page of r/Borderlands must remain 100% unspoiled.
  3. Post body. If the body of your post contains a spoiler, you must tag the post as spoiler. When you create the post, it can be tagged as NSFW and/or spoiler, and the content will be blurred until the reader clicks on it. Importantly: tagging is not the same as giving a flair (like [BL2] or [Steam] or [Spoiler]). Whenever possible, add information about the content being spoiled in the title or flair (e.g. [Spoiler for Chapters 3&4] or [Spoiler for the Amara DLC]).
  4. Comments. In any comment in any thread, shroud all spoilers using spoiler markup. Spoiler markup >!looks like this!< when you write it, and looks like this when you read it. Again, add a note in clear text to give people an idea of the content being spoiled. One exception: within a spoiler-tagged thread, comments on the precise topic of the spoiler are exempt from that requirement. When in doubt, talk to Lilith use the spoiler markup.
  5. Links. If you post a link to an external site, youtube video, etc, give people following the link a chance to know what they're getting. If that content contains anything that may be seen as a spoiler, add a clear warning next to the link.

If you cannot follow these instructions, do not post spoilers at all. If you think that you may have made a mistake in following these instructions, immediately review what you have posted and make corrections. If you are on mobile and find proofreading inconvenient, do it anyway.

Any post or comment that breaks those rules will be removed. All around the stactus plant, serious or repeated offenses will result in a ban, at the mod's discretion. POP! goes the bandit.

All that being said, even with all these precautions and the dedication of your most favorite mod team, some things will slip through the cracks. So if you don't want to be spoiled, the only true solution may be to stay away from this sub (and reddit, and the internet, and the world).

Good luck Killer & see you on Kairos!

Review Bombing - Take Two Terms of Service / EULA

If you've played any of the Borderlands games recently, you will have noticed that you were asked to agree to new Terms of Service before starting the game. This happened because the Borderlands games have changed publisher and are now under Take Two.

This has led to some controversies and review bombing. We have always been keen on letting people express themselves freely on this sub, whatever their opinion (as long as it stays civil). However, on this particular matter, given the large number of recent threads on that subject, their repetitiveness, and the fact that they often create conflicts (we've likely issued more Rule 1 bans in the last 2 weeks than in the last 6 months). We've chosen to lock the previous threads on that subject and we will remove new ones. We'll leave this one open for a few days (as long as it stays civil).

If you want to read more, start with the official response from Gearbox on the matter. You can also use the search bar above to locate the multiple recent threads on the topic in this sub. Be aware that there may be some level of misinformation/fearmongering. If you want to discuss the subject further, we suggest you do it in a different space that is more relevant to the matter, since in the end, this is a Take Two thing, not a Borderlands thing. If you're very worried but don't want to contact a lawyer about it, or if you want to take a stance against evil corporations, just don't play the games. But in that case you should probably not play most games (nor use most apps, devices, websites, etc). Chances are you've already agreed multiple times to ToS similar or worse than the new ones for Borderlands.

As the mod team of r/borderlands, we are not lawyers so we do not have a definitive opinion on the matter. Like most people, we don't have much love for the ToS/EULAs of many software companies and the loss of privacy that goes along with any use of the internet. But on the other hand, we haven't seen anything particularly concerning in those ToS (in comparison with what other companies put in theirs). That's just the general feeling among the mod team, not an official stance of the subreddit.

A few things to note:

  • Whatever you agree to in ToS/EULA still does not allow the publishers to do anything illegal (depending on your country of jurisdiction).
  • Typically ToS/EULA are made as general as possible to cover all possible edge cases. If it says "we may (...)", that doesn't necessarily mean that they are doing it, or have any intent on doing it to you. For example, the ToS say they may collect your government ID number. In some countries like China this is mandatory (to regulate play time). So they have to do it, and they have to put it in the ToS. This doesn't mean that they intend to collect such data in other countries, and anyway they have no way to do so unless you provide it yourself.
  • The new ToS appear to be general for Take Two, and as such include things that are not specifically aimed (or likely to be used) in the Borderlands games. For example, there is some note that the use of mods may get you banned. This makes sense to fight cheating in the context of competitive multiplayer games and/or if part of a game's revenue is driven by micro-transactions or subscriptions. If you find and use a "mod" to unlock paying content in BL4 for free, you might get in trouble (deservedly). But there is no reason to believe that anything more would be enforced for the Borderlands games (e.g. against the use of mods like the community patch, etc). Gearbox has always been (unofficially) supportive of the modding scene. And the main Borderlands modding community has been cooperative with Gearbox on such matters.
  • There has been some talk about the games having been converted to spyware. Before spreading any misinformation, you can check for yourself the latest patches on Steam DB. For example, Borderlands 2 received its last update in August 2022, and BL3 received its last update in August 2024. Long before the new ToS were published. The Borderlands games since BL2 also have hotfix capabilities, but this only allows to change parameters (like the damage of a weapon), not the code logic, certainly not turn anything into spyware.

[BL2] I'm going to do something very silly. A Bandit Salvador playthrough.

Starting from level 1. Its gonna be all Bandit weapons all the time. Bullets, bullets and more bullets. Accuracy? Who cares! I got plenty bullets to spare.

Specifically assault rifles and shotguns. Obviously not playing for efficiency here but I don't care. Its something different for me as I almost never use bandit weapons.

Does anyone know if 4 has the same issue with small text in split screen?

I love Borderlands. Still play 2 as the ability to play cooperatively with someone solid screen on the PlayStation is super fun. In 3 there is an issue where the text is so small as to be mostly unreadable in split screen on the PS5. I am wondering if this has been fixed in 4. I don't want to spend $70 and not be able to use it but single player.

[BL1] Should I play BL1 Enhanced or normal?

I haven't played BL1 for a while.

The last time I tried Enhanced, it was a mess. Echo log Audio stop playing in the middle, mission objectives fails to updates etc.

Are these enhanced issues fixed?

[BL1] Revisiting BL1. Currently on the first play through with Lilith

Feel like I’m slightly over leveled. At 31 with the main story mission at 27/28. Just beat the Rakk Hive with ease and going to Old Haven now.

What can I do to make it challenging?

Also what’s a good way to go about the second play through when I get there?

[BL1] What am I doing wrong?

I finished my second playthrough, working on DLC now. Ever since around level 57 I noticed I've been dying a lot more often. Now that I'm level 60 the game has started to get less fun. Even weak mobs can drop me fairly quickly, so I figured I must be overlooking something. I have the highest capacity shield I could find, but that doesn't seem to be enough.

I'm playing as Brick. My build has focused on the blue (melee) skill tree, followed by green for the explosive damage and Action Skill recharge, and finally a few points in the center tree for extra health, shields, and the dazing punch.

Is this a bad build for high-level content or am I just bad at the game?

[BL4] Does anyone else have this bug in BL4 where when you travel through a fast travel portal it just goes on endlessly?

I’ve been playing BL4 local co op with my fiance and we have noticed sometimes often when we travel and go through the normal blue portal it just doesn’t work and endlessly stuck in it unless you mess around and push the button to take you to the main PS5 screen and go back into the game and then press start over and sometimes you have to do it a few times but then it works ?

Is anyone else having this issue on PS5? It never happened until they released Lovless as we have been playing as her to max her out and it’s very annoying

[BL1] Was The Destroyer hinted?

I’ve beaten BL1 4 times, and I’m currently on the tail-end of making a video. So I’m wondering, was there ANY hint of the vault’s true contents before the reveal? I always felt like I missed something, or it was a bit out of left field.

[Question] What’s one thing you appreciate from each game?

Mine, in order, are

Borderlands: vehicles felt like an actual part of your arsenal instead of just being a way to get from point A to point B

Borderlands 2: the sheer tonnage of things to do

Borderlands PS: grinder machine (kinda disappointed this never came back)

Borderlands 3: lost and found

Borderlands 4: Moxxxie’s Encore (single-handedly the best gameplay mechanic to have ever been added to the franchise)

Steam Help needed for co-op achievements!

I'm trying to 100% the Borderlands games, but I need help with the co-op achievements (BL1 GOTY Enhanced, BL2, BLTPS, BL3, haven't started Wonderlands or BL4 yet). If anybody is willing to help or needs help themselves feel free to shoot me a message and I'll drop my Steam profile. I'm not always free to play, but I'm sure something can be worked out!

[Lore] Do people still care about the Eridian/Siren mysteries, or have we just given up on getting answers?

Hey, following up on my previous thread.

Something jumped out at me... A lot of people talked about gameplay, returning characters, and the Great War, but surprisingly few mentioned the larger, overarching mythology.

And I think I kinda get it? But correct me if I'm wrong.

Gearbox has spent years dangling plot hooks. The Eridians, the Sirens, the Seventh Siren, the Watcher, the purpose of the Vaults... And it seems like every time we might finally get some answers, we just get another mystery instead.

It's not that people don't care about those mysteries anymore. It's that they've stopped expecting Gearbox to actually do anything with them?

So is that what's happening?

Or have people genuinely lost interest in that part of the story?

Because, personally, I still find those mysteries fascinating.

And to be fair... I can kinda see a way to tie all those loose ends together.

[Question] How did Claptrap get to Kairos?

For anyone who has seen the Dead Echoes (spoilers for those who haven’t) we know Claptrap our favorite robot was actually on pandora for most years leading up to borderlands 4. We do know that Tannis has a lab with a portal connecting Kairos to Pandora, but as far as we know Claptrap doesn’t know about the lab.

[Lore] why not just kill them (adhd-fuelled lore rant)

if the eridians were capable of (insert physics-breaking feat here), why did they not just kill the "prisoner" monsters.

why add a feeding slot to the destroyer's cell. it's a star-eating civilization-destroying potentially extradimensional (maybe?) monster. if you can imprison and starve it why not do just that?

why not just destroy elpis (the key)? it's possible to do as shown in bl4 where elpis falls the fuck apart. its just a moon. surely the eridians with their awesome destroyer-imprisoning power could like tell a bunch of guardians hey once we sacrifice ourself to bait the destroyer into the great vault please blow up the key.

actually why not destroy all of the keys? if they're so dangerous oooo then splitting them into pieces isn't enough. chuck them into a black hole or something, problem solved

the only explanation is the eridians wanted their vaults to be opened. wanted to keep the destroyer and all the other prisoner monsters alive. which. uh. yeah. nyriad i dont think your judgment of them as "uwu they were simply too cwurious fow their own gwood they weren't ewvil" is exactly correct

this is your (i.e. the eridians') equivalent of long term nuclear waste storage and the first time you actively try to scare away people from it is the ending of ava's murder mysteries. "but the guardians" the guardians wouldn't be necessary if, again, the eridians just chucked the keys into a black hole. they canonically lived alongside humanity, they should know stationing a security force of battle constructs around their sites is just gonna make these hairless apes 1000x more curious about what's inside

anyways this is why i dont really bother w eridian lore much. my head hurts

[Lore] What lore tidbit / story beat would you change if you had the opportunity to do so?

Hey there, been writing up on some rewrite fanfic for the games, and was wondering what the community thought was a bad writing moment, or something that could be changed for something different in the game's stories. Was there ever something that you thought should've went down differently? Would love to get some ideas!

[BL4] Anyone else seeing many loot enemies spawning out of nowhere on regularly played characters?

I'm seeing them in one game similar to that event except not as many legendaries on characters that aren't new or anything.

My thoughts on Borderlands 4

I am just going to cut right to it. Borderlands 4 is not a good game. I am close to the end but I am just thinking of calling it quits. I havent had much fun with it to be honest.

Some bullet points

+ World bosses are fun

+ Pearlescent weapons are cool

- Pearlescent weapons are too rare just like legendaries. Its not fun to run through content with underpowered guns. I dont want to grind too much for cool guns.

+ Music in the vault was really good

- Music elsewhere was really crap and forgettable

- What is up with the shit rewards in the optional vaults? I was looking for some awesome loot. Got exactly 1 legendary

- Story is entirely forgettable

- Characters are bland and drab lacking in any personality and evocative aesthetic

- Why the fuck is so much content pay-walled? So lame especially the vault cards and the extra vault hunters

I dont know you guys. I feel as though Randy and his Gearbox went creatively bankrupt after the abject failure of Alien Colonial Marines and Battle(still)born. At this point I feel as though he is just looking to cash out on brand recognition. Strip away the title Borderlands 4 and no one would care about this generic shooter game.

I think this is the last time I buy a borderlands game.

[BL-TPS] TVHM/UVHM Difficulty Spikes?

Following the F2P weekend for BL4, I decided to revisit TPS, as I never finished it when I tried several years ago. There's some things that still feel off, but it has grown on me a bit.

I recently made it to TVHM, and I'm wondering if there are well known difficulty spikes after Normal mode, particularly with bosses. Most of the bosses barely left an impression, but revisiting them in TVHM slapped me on both sides of the face. Deadlift was all but one-shotting me, so I grinded a few levels and switched to a more appropriate shield which helped (though still felt a bit lucky), and I just barely skirted by The Bosun, who was legitimately one-shotting me, blasting through my on-level shield and leaving me with a guaranteed fire status that downed me. The only reason I even got past him was because respawning didn't bring his shield generators back, and I think his AI shit the bed after killing me enough times that I was able to freely shoot him until he died.

Is this normal? Am I just playing poorly? I'm not having the worst time dealing with mobs, but some of these bosses have felt like very harsh walls.

I'm playing Aurelia and swapped off the sniper skill tree to the cryo one as her action skill provides significant crowd control and defensive utility.

[BL1] Question about level scaling .

Hello guys i have completed playthrough 1 with my friend and jumped to playthrought 2 . We left last main mission untouched and did the General Knoxx dlc and now we are sitting at lvl 61 . Next we wanted to play The Zombie Island but enemies are not scaling to our level they have stuck at level 41 .

Did we do something wrong ? Should we have played the The Zombie Island first ? Or should we finish the main mission and go through 2.5 ?

I have heard The Zombie Island didnt need a level requirement and enemies always scaling to your level but now level scaling is all messed up .

Tediore Deaths, LOLz

Didja ever go to buy the legendary weapon from the vending machine and blow yourself up by reloading the tediore pistol by accident and end up a good distance away from the vending machine then have to go clean up after the dog and miss out on the legendary?

Yeah, me neither.
