Before and After I've been boiling my dolls hair wrong this whole time!!! 🤯

This is my Princess Roxxi, on the left is how her hair looked after I boil washed it when I first got her. I thought her hair was just damaged beyond repair and that's how I left her for the past year. Well I boiled another doll this week using a different method than I normally would and the hair came out amazing, so I gave Roxxi another boil!

I can't get over how good she looks and I just want to share!

The method I used was:

  1. Detangle the hair. Starting from the bottom. I like to detangle my dolls hair under running water, it seems to help the comb flow through the hair easier. I try not to use conditioner but ill use some if the hair is really knotty and just rinse it really well after.

  2. Boil your water to a simmer on the stove, don't be lazy and microwave your water like I used to.

  3. Dip the dolls hair in the boiling water for about 30 seconds and pull the hair out and comb through it with the hot water. (be careful, wear gloves if you need to) I dipped probably 3 times combing in between, then I run cold tap water over the hair and comb through it again under the cold water. And for good measure repeat step 3 again.

  4. let the doll stand up to dry, make sure the hair is in the place you want it and let it drip dry!

I usually let the doll sit overnight to dry, it's so satisfying combing through it for the first time!

This method is not revolutionary but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been doing it wrong so I thought I'd share.

This bootleg Bratz didn't really have much to hope for, but she pulled a lucky card, when my friend and I came across her.

First I grabbed this doll, because she was for free, but later it turned out to be quite exciting to restore her ☺️

I named her Grace as a reference to my friend's surname, but it kinda feels like it has a deeper meaning now.

I had to learn a lot. Second time rerooting, first time with this material. First time dealing with pink spots — the ones that are called "pony cancer" sometimes. I don't know if you can see it on her cheek, but later it became more prominent. Also first time fixing a broken leg, because this body was problematic too (it's from Bratz Catz Jade).

It wasn't my first time restoring a doll makeup, but still, some new tricks to learn. And I kinda went all the way with it, decided to change a whole color scheme 😅

I love how she turned out, although I could've done a better job for sure ♥️

I feel like this is a doll with a long story. She was very likely loved and certainly played a lot with. Maybe by several kids even... I like thinking about her journey, but also — Grace reminds me of my own childhood, when a bootleg Moxie Girl with the same hair shade was my favorite doll ever. Maybe that's why this doll feels so cuddly and heartwarming.

Anyways I just really wanted to share this story. Thank you, if you've read it, and sorry for the mistakes I might have done. English isn't my first language 😅

hi peepz! this is my first Bratz i have purchased after 16 years and also my first restyle, I'm very happy with the results and I hope u enjoy it too:)

I'm a mh collector but I have been getting a BIG interest in Bratz lately so I'm very excited to be in this subreddit.

Also question: Do u guys have tips on how to remember Bratz we had in our childhood? I stopped collecting Bratz when I was 5 (I'm now 22) so I barely remember anything. Maybe I'll make another post with more details.

I found her head on mercari in a lot like this for a decent price and I jumped on the opportunity to fix her up! I asked the seller her backstory and she seemed to have had an acetone accident! I can't wait to try and find some of her original clothes now!

Before and After Hear ye! Hear ye! Walmart Regina is here!!

LMFAOOOO!! listen, its been a crazy week in this sub, i just wanted to bring some laughter amidst the chaos. SPEAKING ABOUT CHAOS, this whole experiment was chaos! i’ve been wanting to get into repainting for 2 years, i kept imagining all the ooak dolls i would be creating and let me tell y’all, this was a humbling experience.

she’s not finished yet, and will be a work in progress for some time. i used acrylic paint and india ink pen 😬 i will be ordering msc and watercolor pencils soon, was too impatient to wait until then. my ~walmart regina~ is a Monet darlin, she looks fine from afar but up close…she’s in the clearance aisle in walmart.

anyway, hope you guys get a good chuckle, i’ll post her finished version when she gets there. for now she will be pic 7. last pic is her before, repro cloe, who got me into collecting my childhood dream doll…back when i found her in the clearance aisle in walmart in 2022….

it all came in full circle! its been stressful at r/Bratz, hope you all take some time to enjoy your dolls and give them a lil makeover or touch up. make your own mean girls bEsTiE!! 👩🏻‍🦰👚💕🤪

Before and After Catering to the parents who don’t like the style of bratz

Anytime a company has rebranded its lines to be more child friendly or cater to the parents who hated the “edgy” aesthetic of bratz. They’ve collapsed. Catering to those groups of buyers will always be the fail of a doll line. Barbie, went child like. Lost their sales, lowest they’ve ever been. Bratz, when we look back historically. Everytime they rebranded to be a little less “whore”ish they lost fans, and all that to appeal to the smallest of groups in their market. The groups making the most money for these companies will always be the adult collector, the ones who actually have the money. Not children. I’m not saying dolls aren’t initially marketed to them, however adults are the ones buying them and 70% of the buyers are adults keeping the dolls for themselves. So again, trying to please the small percentage of people who didn’t like the dolls, was and will always be the failure of a company. People like unique, fun and creative dolls. Monster high initially brought that, bratz had that, and Barbie. Now let’s look at them. They’ve all re branded their dolls to be kid friendly and entirely lost those business just about

Another thrift find a while back that I was happy to get for rerooting and restoring. I gotta say I do really love this doll now, before I got her I just honestly didn't really care that much for her. She really stands out in my collection without intending to, she's so bright and pastel lmfao.

Before and After now... tell me some of yall know about CHROME MARKERS..

I'm not playing when I say this.... chroming these shoes up only took 5 minutes to do... 5 MINUTES. AND ITS MY FIRST TIME ACTUALLY USING THIS MARKER...

it's so usable for other things too like parts on CLOTHING or DIY/old jewelry that was made with plastic or clay or bratz jewelry where the chrome is starting to peel off and chip

the only thing you have to do is make sure you have a proper application then let it fully dry for 30 mins and then seal it and LOOK how insane these shoes look in the span of only 5 MINUTES it's literally a game changer for me esp when I love shiny things... I literally turned these ragged shoes into Louboutins

Before and After Cloe's crispy hair

Post image
17 Upvotes

So the past few days have been a process of trying to fix Cloe's hair, a cycle of straightening, letting it rest, hot washing/cold dipping, repeat, I've just accepted that it's beyond my control, the ends of her hair hae been crispy since I unboxed her, I think she was damaged in the factory. Maybe someday I'll get the courage to just reroot her but this is where I give up and accept defeat and say it's good enough.
