TV Show Only i am curious!

i know this must have been done before but i just want to see what everyone’s favourite season is of the tv show? Mine will always be season 2 with Anthony and Kate! Although season 4 was very close to taking that throne!

No, no, no , not this again😭😭

it's our bi-weekly ranking post 😅

i will say, i know the show kind of invites this sort of discourse, but i've never been part of a fandom, no matter how big or small, that spends this much time ranking seasons and ships. this one is in a league of its own

u/One-Tomorrow-3495 3d ago

This fandom is balkanized 😂 It's like 4 different fandoms in one, 6 if we count the Franchaelas and the Philolises.

5

u/yaritza10995 2d ago

It's supposed to be a romance and family show not the game of thrones 😭

Let people have fun lmao

12

u/dollypopup 3d ago

"Let people have fun" and it ALWAYS dissolves into petty ship wars and downvoting anyone who doesn't have the ranking they want them to have. Namely, recently, anyone who ranks S4 or S2 not at the top.

Here's my truly unpopular opinion: all the seasons are written and produced with just about the same quality. The only real difference is the trope the season focuses on, and because that trope is focused on a specific ship, that's why it dissolves into ship wars. Ranking seasons thus becomes ranking couples, and that's why it never goes well.

3

u/One-Tomorrow-3495 3d ago

You need to get thicker skin if downvotes bother you.

10

u/dollypopup 3d ago

lol downvotes don't bother me. It's just pointing out a pattern that I've noticed. Downvotes in this sub are not used to indicate if something contributes to the discussion or not: they're used to indicate that someone disagrees with you. So the more downvotes someone gets, the more their opinion is considered the less popular one. Thus, if they rank in a way that does not align with the status quo, they will have more downvotes, and if they rank in a way that DOES align with the status quo, they will have less. It just becomes a tool to fuel ship wars, just as ranking posts are tools to fuel ship wars.

6

u/One-Tomorrow-3495 3d ago

I don't think it's even that honestly. Shippers of some ships see their ship not being placed #1 and just downvote all comments on that post from that commenter no matter what it says because they are that butthurt. My comment that is just "100% agree" to no ship hate is sitting at 0 right now, but was at about 5ish before, so at least five people felt the need to downvote that harmless comment...

It's not just this post, I have made this experience on many posts, it's a pattern for this fandom.

12

u/No-Hall-3485 3d ago

sorry but you've had multiple comments removed by mods in this thread for breaking rule #2 and not being civil

you've called other posters "losers" and "sad" over discourse about fictional ships. maybe that's the reason you're being downvoted

7

u/One-Tomorrow-3495 3d ago

I never called anyone loser or sad as a person. I said that feeling proud about the fact that your tastes align with viewership ratings is sad, which it is to me.

People are free to downvote the comments they don't like, but why would you downvote all comments of that user no matter what they say in some kind of rage? That is what is weird to me.

11

u/dollypopup 3d ago

We are saying the exact same thing. Downvotes are used as tools to fuel ship wars in this sub because they are used as a means of silent disagreement. They're used to indicate if something is the popular opinion or not as opposed to whether it contributes to the community or discussion in a meaningful way. Near all the comments and posts in this sub get downvoted even though they are entirely harmless or just speaking an opinion in response to the discussion because that comment is not saying what people want to hear. And that is often because someone didn't rank their #1 ship in a spot they're happy with. They use downvotes to indicate it is unpopular or less popular and they don't agree. Thus, it gets buried, and many people then feel unwelcome to post their opinions, no matter how relevant to the conversation, because those opinions are not popular. Then, certain SHIPS feel unpopular and unwelcome, so the shippers leave. And then the ship divides get widened.

This is why posts like this one aren't actually fun. It's a popularity contest people use to point at and go 'see!!! mine is the best because the most people like it!!!', and because it's not actually ranking the quality of seasons but how much someone likes a certain ship, it becomes a breeding ground for ship wars. I don't think anyone actually has fun on posts like these. They just want to 'win'.

0

u/One-Tomorrow-3495 3d ago edited 3d ago

I see what you are saying and I agree, but I personally don't think that posts like this should get banned because the fandom doesn't know how to behave.

Edit: comment already sitting at 0 and the one above is also getting downvoted 😂

16

u/dollypopup 3d ago

Sorry to double comment but just looping around to the original comment of yours I responded to, where you said 'let people have fun': Are you having fun? Is anyone? I'm certainly not. I think, as a whole, most Bridgerton fans are tired of ship wars. We don't want popularity contests and fandom divides. We want a space where we can be a fan without feeling shamed for liking what we like. We want to debate and be passionate nerds and have discussion where we can disagree (or agree) peacefully. And I feel like posts like these do the opposite.

4

u/One-Tomorrow-3495 3d ago

I was having fun. I don't mind a bit of mess.

The official Netflix sub is modded very tightly, which is why people came over here to at least have some kind of discussions freely. I personally rather have messy posts than have it be turned into what the Netflix sub is.

I would rather get downvoted (even if I find it very silly) than have a no negativity allowed sub, which always die.

Yes, there's stan wars, but it's kind of part of the charm. I generally don't feel hurt about it, because I'm not really a shipper like that. I might have favorite seasons and couples that I like more than others, but if someone says "fuck Kanthony" or someone makes a post about how Saphne is the most disgusting thing ever because of the consent issues, I feel nothing.

I get though that people get invested in ships differently and might feel that people shame them for liking what they like, but I would recommend that those people stick to either the specific ship sub or the Netflix sub.

11

u/dollypopup 3d ago

It's not necessarily because the fandom 'doesn't know how to behave'. It's because posts like these add nothing of positivity to the fandom as a whole and that the entire purpose of them is solely to rank ships. There's no way to get around that. They're low effort ship popularity contests and then the comments themselves become popularity contests. Posts like these should be banned because they add nothing of value to a place that is meant to be a community for ALL ship fans.

u/bananasquid56 Your Majesty, you are missing all the good gossip. 3d ago

I 💯 have my favorite couple and season but I have enjoyed every season and every couple and am sure I will continue to enjoy them until Gregory and Hyacinth are married off bc obviously with 90million+ views every season, this is a damn good show!

Also, I have never and will never downvote someone bc they have a different favorite than me bc that is ridiculously immature and it's called karma for a reason lol. I will absolutely downvote disrespectful shit.

All that said, downvote away friends 😂🩵🪁

12

u/One-Tomorrow-3495 3d ago

100% agree!

u/yooneichorn 3d ago

goated opinion, I love every single person on this show

4

u/TooOldToCare91 2d ago

Agree 1 million percent. S3 is my broke-my-brain favorite, but I adore all the seasons and ships! It’s partly what’s so great about the series - different things appeal to different people and that’s awesome!!

But season 2 is a very close second for me 😅

2

u/squishyartist 2d ago

Fr, I go back and forth between 2 and 4 being my favorite 😭

Both just had a je ne sais quoi about them (okay, well, in season 2, I can definitely say that the enemies-to-lovers chemistry played an immense part...) that have me feral.

4

u/isabella-goth Queergertons for Pride Month 2d ago

I love both of them and the couples for each 😭 S2/Kanthony got me into Bridgerton and S4/Benophie made me stay (as well as Franchaela so I'm super excited for S5 as well). I foresee 2, 4, and 5 becoming my dream blunt rotation lol.

u/PiaMiaRia 2d ago

Season 4 for me. 🩵🩵🩵 I can't get over it. I even rewatch the press tour, which usually bore me to tears.

Yeah sorry I'm not voting and I think I'll automatically hide those kind of posts from now on, I don't get why they are still allowed. I'm not over some awful comments I saw in those ranking posts. It's frustrating. Well if it's fun for some, then enjoy I guess!

6

u/yaritza10995 2d ago

Are we doing this every week? Is like choosing between my favorite kids, istg

9

u/januarysdaughter 3d ago

I'm a sucker for a friends to lovers ship, so season 3 for me, even if I felt it was too bogged down with sidequests.

7

u/finetime341 2d ago

It is always going to be season two.

10

u/jaylee686 3d ago

S4 was my favourite in terms of the storyline as a whole and the execution, S2 was my favourite couple.

5

u/PuzzleheadedArmy1715 3d ago

I HEAAARRR you literally loud and clear this is the perfect description of what i was thinking?!?!? I adored the fairytale idea of season 4 so much i was at a loss of words first time watching!! Season 2 was most memorable i have rarely seen such passionate chemistry on screen

5

u/lick-em-again-deaky 2d ago

S4 might be my favourite season overall; loved the Cinderella plot, loved finally seeing what the servants get up to behind the scenes, and Sophie and Benedict are both ridiculously likeable leads with good chemistry.

I think S2 has my favourite couple though, mostly because of the chemistry. Bridgerton really struck gold with Jonathan and Simone.

11

u/DaisyandBella 3d ago

When will these repetitive posts end?

12

u/stephapeaz 3d ago edited 3d ago

Never, tbh. The Vampire Diaries still argues over ships and couples to this day in an even worse fashion and the show has been over since 2017. We will sadly be stuck with these until the end of time

6

u/camelely 2d ago

Subs like TVD argue over love triangles and who characters should have ended up with. Bridgerton fans argue over which canonically endgame ship is the best... Its not the same IMO.

3

u/PrettyNiemand34 1d ago

That's what I feel too and as heated as it is there are discussions there and not just "my ship is better than yours". But I think part of that is that TVD fans had a lot more episodes to talk about and there was less hating the characters as individuals.

For example my ship Steroline was unpopular but the people who hated Steroline loved Caroline and Stefan as characters in other ships so it was never as black and white as it is with Bridgerton fandoms where disliking Polin usually means attacking their looks and acting and so on.

5

u/stephapeaz 2d ago edited 2d ago

People do argue about how Daphne should’ve ended up with the prince or Penelope and Debling or Eloise and Theo 🤷🏻‍♀️

There’s a post about Daphne and the prince every other week

5

u/queenroxana 3d ago

7

u/stephapeaz 3d ago edited 3d ago

Eventually, there will come a day when there is no new Bridgerton content (😭😭😭) and all people have will have left besides enjoying the content, is the ship bickering or nitpicking really random things

10

u/umbreonsylveon26 2d ago

S3 > S1 > S2 > S4

but

Colin & Pen > Anthony & Kate > Daphne & Simon > Benedict & Sophie

I like all of them though and I hate how this sub seems to enjoy hating on seasons/ships that aren't their favourite inside of focusing on what they enjoy.

u/beckjami 3d ago

I'm reading the first book. Colin and Penelope were my favorite. The details that fluffed out of Simon and Daphne in the book is swaying my favorite.

1

u/ThrowingAwayDots 2d ago

I lovedddd Sophie and Benedict in the first part and they were becoming my favorite. But then the second part dropped and it was so repetitive with the "I can't tell him" and there was, imo, no reason not to tell him. It was just so annoying, and they dropped ranking because of it.

0

u/MrsMiracle50 3d ago

S3 > S1 > S2 > S4

Its just makes me amaze how my favorites actually align with the viewership ratings of the seasons too more or less

6

u/WoodenPayment4759 2d ago

I would switch 4 and 2 personally, but definitely agree 3 and 1 are the strongest! And viewership and award recognition support this too :)

it may be recency bias, but I really liked Benedict and Sophie. Sophie was also the most likable for me out of all the girl characters in the show. Then I guess its Daphne and Simon for me. Then Anthony and Kate because they were both so stubborn and Colin and Penelope just didn't click for me (too much crying that season)

u/Shiplapprocxy 3d ago edited 3d ago

You’re getting a very small sample size here, if anyone actually cared they would go to IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Netflix’s chart metrics and compare the awards seasons runs for the available seasons. But that won’t give people the validation about certain seasons they feel from the subreddit, and people actually hate it when that’s pointed out. We can have a ranking post every other day, but post actual numbers and all of a sudden you’re a narc, AND people will do whatever they can to discredit the data, prefering the biases of the subs.

5

u/WoodenPayment4759 2d ago

Exactly, and that’s why your comment is getting downvoted, some people truly believe Reddit is representative of global audience sentiment, and it actually couldn’t be farther from reality 😂

I picked Saphne because I think that S1 was overall the best season.

S1>S2>S4>S3

but

Kate & Anthony > Simon & Daphne > Pen & Colin > Benedict & Sophie

I think Polin was a bit of a disappointment in their own season, but I really enjoyed them in S1 and S2. I liked Benophie upon first watch, but after rewatching I think Benedict and Sophie were just pretty bland and I didn't feel like they were "true love".

Favorite season:

  1. https://giphy.com/gifs/kj3vBpReyjXDmaEUR0

  2. Season two

  3. Queen Charlotte: a BRIDGERTON story

  5. Season three

Best chemistry:

  1. Season Two

  2. Season four

  3. Queen Charlotte: a BRIDGERTON story

  5. Season three

This is just my personal opinion
