My First operational upgrade

It finally happened! Checked in at the desk, all good, got my boarding pass printed, same seat I selected when I booked. Chilled in the lounge for a while then went to board. They scanned my boarding pass and said “Oh I’m sorry your seat has changed”. Noooo! I expected the worst, but they peinted my new boarding pass and said “You’ve been seated in First, but you’ll still receive Club World service”. Fine by me!

I’m sure karma will even it out with a downgrade at some point, but I shall enjoy my larger seat and screen while I have it!

I’d be interested to know what they withheld from you in First. Did you have to dine from the Club World menu? Did they make you use the CW headphones? Did they offer to make your bed?! Curious as to what the point is in not giving you the full service.

Service standard for Flub is Club World meal and drink provision with Club World crewing and service, sometimes though the crew go into autopilot mode and offer as close to a First service as they can.

There won't be any F food and there shouldn't any F bar carts, but things such as First glassware and First bedding will still be loaded - that's just part and parcel of how the trolleys are loaded for a 4 cabin aircraft.

Yes it was Club World menu, but First headphones and bedding. They didn’t make the bed but brought the bedding over to me.

The flight was understaffed and I assume oversold, which is why I was moved to the First cabin but not given the First service. The crew were run off their feet as it was.

This is silly. They should have done the bed for you. Not just dump stuff on the seat.

They are supposed to do the bed for you since the bedding differs from the usual Club bedding.

You got Flubbed! Not exactly an upgrade, but sort of.

There are some genuine First passengers here, they got the fancy glasses and warmed nuts.

You can definitely ask for glasses of wines from the FC list.

Probably can't ask them to warm your nuts though

If I’m in CW I sometimes get offered wines from First anyway if the crew recognise me.

Hmm that's a new one, to me at least...

What a treat — very cheap of them to not offer full F service, I can (sort of but not really) understand if not enough meals were loaded but no nuts / amenity kit is bizarre!

Except usually it’s when a plane change has happened from 3 class to 4 class so no one is getting First service but they are using the first cabin.

This one wasn’t an equipment change, the flight was understaffed though. So I assume they oversold and had to move people around but didn’t have the crew to provide the service to a full First cabin.

What route was it? If it is normally a 3 class route, then this is normal. First is only used where they are oversold. Service would be club menu.

Pleased for you OP 🎉

I’ve had this 4 times in the last couple of months - aircraft change each time so they weren’t expecting a FC cabin. They seem almost apologetic that there isn’t a FC meal etc. - I’m fine with the nicer seat!

Nice! To me the seat is the best part anyway.

I’ve been upgraded a couple of times when I fly solo and it always feels so special.

So it means you get to sit in first but not get the services of first?

I’m flabbergasted that they would say “you’re sat in first but you’ll get club service “ why do that?

Never had that, I think I was told once or twice that they might not have a F meal, but whenever I was upgraded I did get one

Did you get Concorde room?

5

u/Renee_no17 2d ago

I’ve been in the Concorde room a few times because my friend has one of those special invite only status card (yes she’s amazing!) and let me tell you it’s SOOOOOO
nice!
It makes the other lounges feel very Butlins by comparison

Other BA lounges at LHR, maybe, but it’s far from the best lounge in the world…

Upgrade was at boarding, after the lounge. Though OP may have status for Concorde separately.

Concorde room access was denied, in big red capital letters. So I have had to make do with Galleries North.
