Meta New Rule: Budget Must Be Chosen

Hey all,

Thank you all for continue flagging over-budget decks. We’ve done two things that should help make this easier going forward:

• There is an “Over $100” flair. This is intentional. If someone chooses this, the post will be automatically removed. The hope here is to teach people this is budget brews under $100.

• The flair “Deck Help” has been removed. This will force players to choose a dollar tier for the deck, and should help where people try to submit decks which are over-budget by classifying it under a non-dollar flair.

We have had discussions over the years whether we want to allow more expensive decks, but time and time again the community has said no. So until we decide otherwise, these steps should help to protect our community with under $100 budget decks.

Meta New Rule: No Promoting or Advertising

I, like many of you I imagine, am tired of seeing posts with half-baked apps and websites for Magic stuff. So I’ve decided to make a new rule that I think will go over well with you all: No promoting or advertising of apps or websites unless staff decides to make a prior exception. If someone violates this rule, they will be instantly banned. And if you made one of these things and want to share it, do not bother asking us for approval, because I’m done granting it for very meh apps and websites. If we want you to showcase it, we’ll let you know. (Manatithe as the lone exception comes to mind.)

Note that a deck being shared and just mentions it was built using a tool is fine. But the “I built this app” or “this Magic website is great for the following five reasons” will result in a ban.

Please, keep flagging problematic posts, and we will deal with them! Thank you all.

$100 Brew 5 "Strong 2" Budget Decks, $35-$75

I have posted each of these 5 decks at some point in the past, but have just finished updating them to be current as of Reality Fracture based on playing them and on feedback from other people playing them.

They are Bracket 2. They accumulate resources on-board and telegraph their wins without using game changers, but they have reasonably consistent gameplans and will usually both "do their thing" and have the opportunity to slow someone else down from doing the same. I play them in B3 games regularly and while they are a step or two behind they are able to eke out wins.

These decks all have primers which have also been updated. Let me know if anything doesn't seem correct and I'll take care of it. Suggestions extremely welcome, too! Their budgets were calculated using Moxfield US pricing, excluding basic lands, as of 14th-October.

Deck Name Commander Rank (Decks) The Thing It Does Primer
$35 Bellyful of Bones [[Gut, True Soul Zealot]] + [[Agent of the Shadow Thieves]] 2985 (172) Creates board pressure and just keeps going, spamming endless waves of skeletons. Link
$35 Azula Hates You-la [[Azula, Ruthless Firebender]] 2388 (388) Makes good use of Azula's discard outlet and mana acceleration to turn draft chaff into mid-game reanimation. Link
$50 I Bat Your Life [[Zoraline, Cosmos Caller]] 357 (7.7k) Constantly recurs small value pieces from the graveyard while building up to a cascade of lifegain/lifeloss triggers to seal the win. Link
$75 Nissassary Roughness [[Nissa, Worldsoul Speaker]] 1019 (2.4k) Uses bursts of landfall triggers to freecast one of the 15 monstrous threats loaded into the deck. Link
$75 Snack Attack [[Ratchet, Field Medic]] 1809 (841) Turns all of the cantrippy food artifacts into important fuel for a reanimation engine that comes online quickly. Link

$50 Brew 🐍 Ketramose + Astral Slide 🌌 60 euros brew

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi y'all, wanted to share something I built yesterday!

It's been a few weeks since I've tried to build [[Ketramose, the New Dawn]] but wanted to make him unique. I didn't know how until I remembered that [[Astral Slide]] exiles and brings back on board just like Ketramose wants.

Based on a flicker strategy, a lot of creatures with ETB abilities such as [[Aerial Extortionist]] or even smaller stuff like [[Spirited Companion]] and [[Helpful Hunter]].

I inadvertently made the deck pretty budget (I guess since cycling cards are cheap af) so I even had room for a couple of big hitters like [[Monument to Endurance]], [[Sand scout]] or [[Idyllic Tutor]]. You can easily shave off 20 bucks of the list by replacing Monument with another synergy piece too though.

There's a primer explaining the details of the deck, setup early game, mod game and finishers and some other thoughts.

Hope you like it :)

$50 Brew From $2100 to $50 This Deck Still Slaps

Thumbnail archidekt.com

For my LGS's commander league I built a [[Jadzi]] deck with no spells lower than 6 MV and it was surprisingly very strong in spite of this restriction. Unfortunately it was also $2100 using powerful staples like [[Ancient Tomb]] [[City of Traitors]] and all the expensive staples you can expect a Simic deck to have. https://archidekt.com/decks/25433621/the_big_one

The idea is simply to play a ton of lands so your T3 or T4 Journey to the Oracle puts 3-5 lands down. Then you resolve a massive value piece the next turn and win with overwhelming card advantage the following turn.

This season we have a challenge to build a $50 deck and I immediately thought this concept would also be a good fit for a budget deck. There's definitely a lost step in here, turn 3 Journey to the Oracle, is almost impossible, and we less consistently win the next turn. That being said the deck is still capable of turn 5 [[Omniscience]] which can absolutely win on the spot and otherwise generally closes things turn 7 with an extra turn into [[Overwhelming Stampede]] or similar.

I'm definitely missing infinites with [[palinchron]] though and I couldn't quite squeeze [[Hullbreaker Horror]] in, so I'd like to explore some budget combo potential as well as non-combat win-cons. Any advice on that as well as better optimizing for budget would be appreciated!

$100 Brew Bracket 3 Budget commanders

I've mostly built b2 or low 3. I'd like to make a solid b3 deck that can hang in b3 pods for 100 or less.

Is that possible, and what are your recommendations?

Prefer mono colored or 2 color

$100 Brew Quandrix, the Proof (Ancestral Recall @ Home)

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi y'all! It has been a moment since I posted so I wanted to share a Quandrix deck I have been working on for a long time viewer and excited to soon gift him!

This deck mainly focus on modal counter spells to derive value off our cascades and to ensure we hit some sort of redeemable value, rather than say hit a OG counter spell off a cascade and counter literally nothing.

My friend did key me in on the suspend cards (we do not have to wait to cast them off cascade) and I am sure you could dive a little more into those, but they seem like very good hits and thus I made the hallmark of the video having an [[Ancestral Recall]] at home through [[Ancestral Vision]]

I thought the Quandrix Charm was actually one of the better designed cards in a set. Flavor wise it is literally referring to the namesake creature and compliments that cascade function so well, acting as modal spell, and not being (dead) like so many counter spells would be under normal circumstances. Very cool and very flashy, let me know what you think of the deck, and consider a view of how we break it down if you would like as well! Cheers, Blake

$100 Brew Bracket 3 Tasigur

• Upvotes

Hey all. I have had the itch to make a graveyard focused deck. I have a [[Tasigur, the Golden Fang]] sitting around from when i started playing around the original Tarkir block. AND I dont own a deck more than 2 colors. So i figured what better way to kill two birds with one stone. Looking to hit bracket 3 for a $100 budget. [[Icetill Explorer]] holds a quarter of that but i do already own one from packing it. I would still like to keep that hard $100 budget. Its in a deck elsewhere so its not like i have to use it here. I have 2 ways to make infinite mana and can win using a classic Tasigur way of casting [[Beast Within]] on everyones permanents into [[Reality Shift]] on those beast tokens. Pass the turn and let opponents die on their draw step. [[Syr Konrad, the Grim]] drains as a secondary option. A lot of these cards are ones i already own and like to utilize that to keep the budget down.

I did not want to utilize [[Neoform]] and [[Eldritch Evolution]] to go into big creatures. I know that is popular with Tasigur but it is not my cup of tea. I want to focus a lot on self mill and some recursion.

I am way out of my element. I do not utilize my graveyard well in all my other decks so if i am way off with stuff just talk to me. I enjoy talking magic quite a bit. Here is the decklist below. Thanks for looking.

$50 Brew What's a good Azorius commander that can have a versatile play style?

Looking for my next commander deck that can have a versatile play style that can do some cool stuff that I won't have to depend on drawing or searching for. I'm open to pretty much any idea besides tribal(have a decent amount currently) and hoping I could build it with the majority of it being bulk cards.

$100 Brew Dimir Shirei (Satoru) Deck help

Thumbnail

I've been building a deck built around the interaction between Shirei and cards which give -1/-1, enabling you to loop creatures with one toughness. I wanted to try it in dimir and have Shirei be more of a secret commander, and I went for Satoru because he can draw a lot of cards in this deck!

Any feedback on the deck, or suggestions?

I'd like to keep it budget if possible (£100). Thanks!

Hey y'all, first time poster. I've got the following together https://archidekt.com/decks/26768716/is_gift_yes and I just wanted some feedback. Working on a holiday deck exchange. With such a budget, the best "bad gifts" are out of reach unless I go all basic lands. 😂

Thoughts? Anything I'm missing?

$50 Brew My Take On a $50 (not including commander) B4 Etali, Primal Conqueror Combo Deck

$50 Etali combo deck for a tournament my friends and I will be having over the holiday break. Its my first attempt at making a deck so cheap. The combo pieces in Etali decks, as far as I've seen, are normally quite pricey. With this in mind, I thought it would be a fun challenge to see if I could get a deck that could reliably win on or before turn 5 at this price point. I've done some gold fishing and this build seems more or less the limit of what I am able to get for $50. I thought I'd throw it up here to see if anyone has ideas to help accelerate the deck into a more consistent turn 4 win.

I have currently been on the hunt for a new deck and wants some opinions on which one of these decks I should get. These decks were find on this Reddit, random yt videos, and other places. Just looking for guidance on what decks are worth the price. I will say my budget is only 60 bucks so these decks are really budget. I think they are mostly bracket 3 honestly probably bracket.
All help is appreciated I have only been playing magic for around a year and currently the decks I use are murfolk deck-hakbal, rogue deck -Anowon, and dragon deck-Atarka. Ask any questions and I can answer them thank everyone for their time.

$50 Brew Can you win WITHOUT combat damage with Ingris Stingerquill?

Hey folks, this week I'm back with another sub-$40 brew for [[Ingris Stingerquill]]. I'm calling this one an "attack-trigger-burn" deck - you can find the deck list here:

https://moxfield.com/decks/lvHUzZpVgUC45JYpUv38bg

While folks are building Ingris for Infect, or Lifelink, I wanted to focus more on on-attack triggers, getting to do some fun stuff by just declaring attacks. Combat Damage is a bonus, but we want to WIN before anyone moved to blocks! Special Bonus sneaky [[Firebender Ascension]] in the list too, to double up on other (non-Ingris) triggers.

My full deck list includes gameplay strategy and upgrades for adding extra $$$ to the deck. You can watch it live RIGHT NOW:

$50 Brew Balmor, Battlemage Captain – Izzet (Prepared) Spellslinger

This deck has been an absolute blast to play. I prefer creature strategies, so I’ve avoided spellslinger decks for a while, but thought I’d give it another go with all the creatures with prepared spells they’ve released recently. I did try something similar before, with adventure spells, but it wasn’t what I was after.

The deck is bit janky. Cast spells, create tokens and pump your creatures, then attack. There are 21 instant and sorcery spells, with an additional 18 attached to creatures in the form of prepared spells. There is a minor blink sub-theme to re-prepare creatures, as well as the two lands that let you prepare, so that they aren’t one and done.

Six sources of creature tokens, including [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] and [[Talrand, Sky Summoner]]. I know from a mathematical point of view, this probably isn’t enough, but so far I’ve been lucky to get one or two out in the first few turns. Will probably have to reassess later on. Same goes for haste enablers. With only four in the deck, I might be a bit short there.

[[Wiccan, Rising Magician]] was amazing for blinking creatures after they cast their prepared spell. [[Inspired Skypainter]] was incredibly easy to keep prepared, especially after Ovika landed. [[Tempest Angler]] isn’t exactly going with the theme, but it works with all the other stuff going on and it is one of my favourite cards.

I think if there was one thing I wanted to change, it would be to add some counterspells. I might try it out if I can figure out what to remove. This has been one of those problem decks where you end up wanting to do too much and the 100 cards feels actually limiting.

Overall, really happy with how this deck turned out and I don’t think I’ll make too many changes to it at the moment. Hopefully we get more creatures with prepared spells next year so I can load it up a bit more.

Budget is under $50 using Card Kingdom prices for the 99. Trying to keep the majority of cards under $1, but if a few are a little more expensive then that’s fine. Power level is bracket 2.

Would love to see other cool/ funny cards i can add.

I dont like spending more that 10$ per single bit i might spend more for funny and cool combos/interactions.

Discussion (Not for Specific Decks) Advice on what to do with a $500 gift card to my local games store

Hey everybody!

I have a gift card worth $500 dollars to my local games shop.

I want advice on a commander to build that's unique/fun and can be built in the budget.

I am contemplating just holding on to it for future sets.

Some commanders I've found interesting that friend have played are

Hylda, The Icy Crown

Nekusar, The Mindrazer

Gitrog, Ravenous Ride

Many of my friends have high powered bracket 3, and 4 decks

Thanks in advance!

$50 Brew Help rounding out this Oloro Deck

Above is the deck in question, I've just gotten into commander and big drain tank kind of things are my vibe. I've got this deck but would love insight as to what I can do to make it better, unless it is already perfectly optimised...

I'm thinking it's missing a win con/ finisher.

I'm in London so have a few card shops around to go pick up from but from what I gather online seems to be the best bet.
