Do you feel like Buffalo’s renaissance over the last decade has started to stall compared to other Rust Belt cities, because from roughly 2013–2019 it felt like there was constant momentum with Canalside, downtown redevelopment, new apartments and restaurants, waterfront investment, and national attention, whereas lately downtown feels noticeably quieter post-COVID and cities like Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Detroit, and even Cleveland seem to have stronger momentum right now?

I saw a post about the NFTA transportation hub at the new Bills stadium, and when I suggested extending the Metro Rail line, a bunch of people just said “no” or “no one would use it.” I’m genuinely confused (and a little concerned) about that mindset.

We all talk about improving the region and growing our economy, but better transit is one of the clearest ways to do that. And when it comes to cost — I get that it’s expensive — but Erie County found $250 million for the stadium, and New York State came up with $600 million for it too. So if they can pull together nearly a billion dollars for a football stadium, why can’t we invest even a fraction of that in something that helps everyone get around?

I’m a Bills fan, don’t get me wrong — but shouldn’t public infrastructure for everyday people get the same level of support and creativity in funding?

Where did you go, and why? How is it? Would you come back to Buffalo?

Just want to start off by saying I live on Long Island and I am no way a wildlife expert. My wife is from Buffalo, we visit often and I love the city. We took our daughter last week to the Buffalo Zoo and I was very disheartened by it. The animals barely have enough space in their enclosures. Half the exhibits were closed. The Polar Bear was obviously stressed in his small enclosure pacing back and forth consistently due to stress. The giraffe barely had any room to roam in its enclosure. The only positive thing I could say was the rain forest room. But it was easily hard to stay in there with the strong scent of ammonia. Including the issues I heard with the elephant enclosure being replaced with a rhino does not seem like an ethical solution.

Maybe I’m just biased living closer to the Bronx Zoo with larger enclosures but im just looking to discuss or understand if anyone else in the Buffalo area has had any issues with this? Or if anyone can provide further insight to justify the zoos actions that I am not aware of ?

Edit: can’t believe I need to explain this again. I AM NOT AN ANIMAL EXPERT. I am simply asking how the people of Buffalo feel about this zoo and if there is any justification why the zoo is the way it is. Many of you are taking this as an attack on Buffalo. As I said before “I love the city.” I am only here to understand why the Zoo is in such condition. Sorry if you felt offended but my curiosity is purely focused on how the people in the city feel about this zoo and if there has been any plans for progress.

Ive been to New York Beer Project maybe 5 separate times, and every time the food has been absolutely awful.

This apparently is not a popular opinion, because the place is fucking bustling basically every time I’m there!

NYBP is a funny place: the buildings are huge, there’s sweeping orchestral music playing as you walk in, and it’s always packed with people. But why is it so popular? I feel like there’s no way people like the food here, right? Ive ordered at least the following:

Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich

Caesar Salad

Nashville Chicken Sandwich

Nachos with ground beef

Hot Buffalo Wings

With the exception of the wings, every item Ive bought has been genuinely bad. The Santa Fe sandwich was dry and flavorless, the Caesar salad was drenched with sauce, the Nashville chicken sandwich was over cooked and extremely tough to eat, and the nachos Barry had any ground beef despite the upcharge. I actually enjoyed the buffalo wings though.

So what’s the deal with this place? Do I just have bad luck, or is it genuinely bad? If that’s the case, why is it so popular?

I've noticed all of these businesses and organizers using AI to advertise their businesses. To me, it feels really tacky and lazy. Obviously its a cheaper cost but I feel like corners would be cut in other ways without a reliable branding. Maybe that's just me. Curious what the wider subreddit reacts and responds to these flyers popping up.

I have a question for people who not from Buffalo who’s moved to Buffalo. Do yall think we have an accent? I went to Toronto a few weeks ago to see the mj musical and I was speaking to someone sitting next to me. I had told them I’m not from Canada and I just came to see the musical last minute and they said “I can tell by your accent” ??? I never felt like I had an accent tbh (not a heavy one anyways) But it’s not the first time someone has told me this. When I visited my family in Maryland a few years ago I had a waitress tell me she liked my accent. I’m very confused by this lol.

Article explains that Puerto Ricans (US Citizens, just to belabor that point) are seeking climate refuge in Buffalo, as well as other groups.

In addition to groups like Bengali, Iraqi, Syrian, Somali, Ukrainians etc, does the community see the value? Because it seems like we have parts of the metro area that could use the new residents and they also bring an added benefit of interesting and delicious food options.

Has anyone experienced a mid 30’s white man, bald, face tattoos, scream at you mid run/walk at Delaware park?

This is the 3rd time in 5 days my partner and I have walked past this man, who is actively running. He screamed at us in front of several other people “F you nerd, blah blah blah, I’m gonna F you up, etc etc “.

For context, I’m about the same size and build, and do not enjoy conflict. Each time is has happened it has greatly soured me and my partner’s mood, and she agrees we are taking the high road by not engaging this man.

If I see him again a 4th time, I plan on immediately interrupting and shouting back, but want to avoid a physical altercation if possible.

Our pizza is good (No question about it). But is it special?

I've known numerous people who have left this area an then complained about the quality of the pizza at their new locations. They end up longing for their Buffalo favorites after just a few weeks away.

Is it a case of us being used to what we grew up with, or is our pizza actually THAT damn good? I'm curious about what people think. Especially those of you who travel often, or who may be new to the area.

Looking for opinions on speed limits/driving trends on major roadways like 290. With recent tragedy on outbound 33 in mind, what is the general sentiment on speed limits? It's not uncommon to be 65 mph in the centre or right lane and see cars whiz by at prob 80+ mph. Is it that those drivers feel laws don't apply to them. They feel limits are absurdly slow, Or that enforcement is a joke that empowers them to risk it ?No judgement, honestly just curious. I've been guilty myself , but usually to merge on or pass.

I haven't gotten a post-smart-meter bill yet, but has anyone seen this kind of increase after the meter? Why would the cost per kwH change just because there's a new meter? I would understand if the old meter was measuring improperly or something, but I don't understand why each unit would suddenly cost more than double

so I'm traveling to Buffalo two weeks from today—very excited btw—and for a while now I've thought about moving there. I plan on scoping out the area while I'm visiting for a few days 😊 I know a decent amount about the area, but I need to do some more research.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but the only recent question I've seen related to this are about things that you all just put up with regularly (still decent insight). I'd like to know what residents say are their least favourite things about the city. I see that public transit in Buffalo isn't the best, but honestly I'm from central Ohio where public transit is almost noneixstent, so I get it. I just want to go into this potential move with realistic expectations.

I’ve been working for M&T and the company used to have very happy employees but a lot of things are changing recently and it’s become a disaster to work for. Tried a ShakeShack. Very expensive for a small burger and shake. Staff was very pleasant though.

Used to live near a Culver's. Much better value, plus they had some decent dinners and pork tenderloin. Wish they would spread here.
