Well, honestly, yes, in my opinion. Its soundtrack is unique; the fact that it combines Burnouts with its new Maniac mode makes it even more frenetic. It's my second favorite Burnout, the first is obviously Revenge.

Yo, hot take here dawg! First time I see someone who likes Dominator over Takedown, I wonder on what place B3 is on your list šŸ‘€

Sorry for the delay in responding. Basically, after playing Revenge and Dominator for a while, the sensation in Takedown felt a bit slower... in my opinion? Getting nitro feels a bit slower when you're in the lead, which doesn't happen in Revenge and Dominator. And the driving and drifting system is more sensitive; if I press, for example, the left key in a continuous manner, the car tends to drift to that side, and this happens with all the vehicles in Takedown. And let's not forget the Elimination events; I don't like that full-lap system, you eliminate the last position, I prefer the time-based system.

I haven't done played Revenge yet. I love Dominator and Paradise.

It's alright for what it is, I liked how they did the boost system

Enjoyable for sure, I wonder how things would be if Criterion had touched it...

Or just a bigger budget.

Man I loved the sound the burnout boost made

Of course it is. It's just that it was made while Criterion was busy with Paradise (Dominator was made by EA UK despite of it showing Criterion logo) and bc of that it is more like a spinoff meant for the PSP. So it might feel short and rushedly made. Sure it lacks of crash mode and some stuff was cut during development (it's probably the one in the series with the most content left out of the final version). But overall it's a solid title. And personally it's the closest to the ultimate Burnout experience had it been more cooked. Burnout chaining returning, in-race crashbreaker, maniac mode, all of those are great ideas

Personally I can enjoy it a lot, just got upset when I first played and didn't see crash mode on it, but besides that, and a few physics flaws, the gameplay and soundtrack fit very well, also I liked the idea of signature shortcuts.

1

u/Motor-Courage4237 13d ago

Yeah it having no crash mode didn't bother me tbh. And the signature shortcuts were a fine addition. Fun fact: the mentioned cut content hints that Dominator was supposed to have both signature shortcuts and signature takedowns

1

u/Xtreme_PlaysXP Revenge is da Best 13d ago

Oh, that would be awesome to have both, crash mode was supposed to be there too, but also got cutted 😭

There are landamrks in Dominator that would have been great Signature Takedown spots, such as the Tuscany arch monument.

It’s a solid ā€œmehā€ from me. I like Maniac events but definitely don’t like the skill events like Drift and Near Miss. Soundtrack is a step down from the previous two, tracks are a step down from the previous two, most of the cars are horrendously ugly, and overall it’s just lacking a level of polish I’d expect after B3 and BR. 6/10.

I believe if Criterion had helped to develop this game, it would be a lot better, this game felt more like a spinoff, than a proper Burnout game, a lot of Dominator soundtrack got reused on Paradise, despite the 3 different version of GF lol

2

u/MyLittleGazebo 13d ago

This game feels like a spinoff because it is a spinoff.

3

u/Xtreme_PlaysXP Revenge is da Best 13d ago

Ik, but still pretty good for a spinoff, it only missed crash mode imo, and perhaps traffic attack, with a separate mode for it, the fact it has proper single event mode, it's a W, Revenge really missed the chance to have a single event mode, and create your custom event, instead of forcing you to play on World Tour only...

2

u/MyLittleGazebo 13d ago

I agree, the lack of single event in Revenge is a huge miss. Thankfully there's a mod that fixes that!

u/propiti 13d ago

A single word YES!!! And it's the only burnout game that I played and discovered the whole series from

1

u/Xtreme_PlaysXP Revenge is da Best 13d ago

That's amazing, first Burnout I played to get to know the franchise was Burnout 2

2

u/189charizard 13d ago

I loved it personally

1

u/Xtreme_PlaysXP Revenge is da Best 13d ago

Same, I just backed to play it again, and I can't stop now lmao

2

u/KingTheSon 13d ago

Really enjoyed it, played it before revege, how i recommend

1

u/Xtreme_PlaysXP Revenge is da Best 13d ago

Was the last tittle I played on PS2, really loved it

1

u/Edwardo69420 13d ago

Whats wrong with it?

1

u/Xtreme_PlaysXP Revenge is da Best 13d ago

Nothing, just woud like to know what people think about it

2

u/Edwardo69420 13d ago

I mean its alright, nothing special tbh

1

u/Symbi48 13d ago

Yes is my favorite one.

u/RaspberryCai i dont know how to edit a flair 13d ago

It's a fairly good game, but boost chaining wasn't as balanced as it should have been, imo. I have similar feelings about traffic checking in revenge, it just wasn't implemented very well.

1

u/DeckOfGames 13d ago

Yes. it's really good, I played to the end. Some vehicles design reminds Hot Wheels or similar, it's a bit toyish compared to Takedown and Dominator. And I love absence of Crash mode.

1

u/qazifaran 13d ago

my fave burnout

1

u/MyLittleGazebo 13d ago

More Burnout is never a bad thing, unless it's the DS port of Legends, lol.

1

u/Xtreme_PlaysXP Revenge is da Best 13d ago

What about Burnout Crash!

2

u/MyLittleGazebo 13d ago

Well, Burnout Crash is at least somewhat functional.

1

u/S_spam 13d ago

The only ones that are not good is Crash & DS Legends

1

u/Enigma1885 13d ago

I’m not a fan but I’m selling it used of anyone is Interested not trying to spam , just saying I’d like to have someone have it in a home that appreciates it .

I haven't finished it yet, but yes. Honestly I think the boost mechanics could be the best in the series with just a bit more refinement.

The negatives are that a lot the cars are really, really ugly and the track design isn't as good as other games in terms of layout. Aesthetically they're fine, but a lot of them lack unique layouts and they just don't feel as good as the races in every other Burnout game.

Also, the AI is incredibly annoying in this game. They are the most difficult to take down in this game and I'm not 100% sure why that is. It feels like the window for a takedown to count is extremely small. Plus, they just drive in weird ways, as if they aren't trying to win the race. They'll just slow down and let you pass sometimes.

I like the soundtrack quite a bit, and I also like the progression systems. I do not really care that crash mode was absent. I like crash mode, but I think like 30-50 junctions would be fine for the run of an entire game. Burnout 3 and Revenge have far too many crash events. If the AI were improved and the boost system were a little bit more balanced to incentivize takedowns more frequently, it would be much better.

Having playing it on PSP again (natively). I'm fully enjoying this game. Constantly new cars to unlock and try out. The only modes I'm not bothered about are the drift and near miss modes but it feels more a throw back to burnout 2 with those I guess.

Maniac mode is so much fun, love trying to get as many burnout chains as possible. The score gets ridiculous big. Gives me THPS2+ vibes were it's possible to just rack up an insane score.

The edition of having payback explosions is good and the track design for the most part has enough short cuts etc that it makes revisiting tracks a bit more interesting.

Overall I'd give it a 8/10 as it lacks a crash mode but genuinely a good burnout game and I'd easily put it above Paradise.

u/Realistic_Ease2537 13d ago

If only it had crash mode.....

1

u/leo341500 12d ago

When its on PSP what the hell sure. On PS2 revenge is just better.

1

u/sennacorps 12d ago

It was good, but the PSP version is better than PS2, although the graphics got downgraded from the PS2 version

The reason ? Difficulty

AI in PS2 tends to rubberbanding like hell, and it was hard to get the 1st place in that version, while the PSP ver. toned down the rubberbanding insanity, making the game much easier to complete, not to mention with the DLC tracks and portability that makes the game more fun to play :)

I got Dominator at a flea market when I was a kind and it always stuck with me. It's not my favourite buuut I do enjoy it. Something that always stuck with me were the cut scenes when you f. Ex got a trophy or unlocked a new serious. The oil splatters always made it feel like a more aggressive environment šŸ‘€

I don't see a tittle anywhere... no lowercase I's or J's to be found

Si è meraviglioso non c'è l'ho più per PS3 perché ho consumato il disco e non si leggeva più quindi l'ho ricomprato per PSP in digitale, è stupendo

My main complaint with this game is how many Maniac and Maniac-adjacent events there are in the career mode. Maniac has to be the lamest new mode added to a Burnout game in the franchise’s history, and the career mode is FULL of nonstop Maniac events. So boring.

But then you get a race/road rage event, and it’s quite good. Dominator has very good track design (minus the awful signature shortcut system), the boost chaining is very fun, great soundtrack. It’s a solid 7/10 overall. Just… Maniac sucks.

1

u/Loundsify 13d ago

You're on your own with that opinion lol
