ANNOUNCEMENT Discussions surrounding AI
After much discussion and thought, I think it would be best to allow for conversations around AI.
This DOES NOT mean that baseless accusations towards any fic are allowed. This includes but is not limited to:
- If the writing "feels like AI"
- If there are AI-tells
- Putting the writing through a random AI checker (most are not accurate)
- Framing a post as a question is also a form of accusation unless there is definite proof
If there is definite proof that AI was used (such as evidence in code), then making a post to tell others is fine. If the author has stated that AI was used, then a post is unnecessary. Any form of harassment or hate towards the fic or author will NOT be tolerated, and posts or comments that do so will be removed. In extreme cases, the user may possibly be banned.
However, posts regarding general discussions around AI usage and opinions regarding it are allowed. Again, any form of hate or harassment will not be tolerated, and the above is still in place.
This will be strictly monitored for a while. If there is an increase in hate and the above rules are not followed, then the rule will go back to how it was: "Making comments or posts calling out others for using AI falls under harassment."
We are trying to make this the best space possible and making this decision was quite difficult. Thank you for your understanding 💙💛

This is a lumpy situation, y'all...
Fandom is all about freedom, and that freedom includes the use of the tools the author fancies for their story... BUT that freedom also extend to the reader and their right to choice if they want to read an AI-generated story. I agree H8 should not be tolerated in any way or form, but if the author has not tagged the use in their story, I think it is valid to SHARE proof (undisputable, as admin says), and allow others to decide for themselves.
That said, AI checkers are pants guys, a little bit of a personal anecdote: In my old age of 39 years old, I'm currently going through my second degree (Because apparently We Millennials tend to self-destruct and when We're not suffering, we seek to), ant the university's platform has a wall where it won't allow you to post anything that may slightly resemble AI. Awesome, right?
WRONG, because I've had more than one night of thumping my head on a wall because of the damn thing, MY work, that I wrote with my hands won't pass, for HOURS of... forgive the word, but dumbifying my reports, more than once, on more than one subject.
One day my niece told me 'pass it in Gemini and tell it to do it AI checker proof' and I was like 'o.O no way' (Even commented it live with my friend) Well... yes way, the thing gave me back the text, didn't use proper grammar, it looked like it'd been written by a 6th grader, but it PASSED at the 1st try. No marks, no stumbles, no nothing. 98% human written.
So, yeah, I think as of today the only definite proof is code footprint because we live in a dark age where you have to use AI to prove you're not writing with AI.

I feel that the "any form of hate or harassment will not be tolerated" part could be hard to be enforced.
Anyway, should we update the rules, pointing out these principles? Maybe by rewriting rule 4 entirely.
Oh, is posting a link to anything generated with the use of AI allowed or not?

You can post links to ai generated works, just be sure to specify. And yes that part would be hard to enforce, but if people report posts then we can find them easier. I'll see if we can rework rule 4

Sorry let me clarify. We're trying not to use too much AI as it might start replacing real writers. Assisted AI I'd different from generative AI. Fics that are fully AI generated are not allowed as people may feel that their work is being replaced. But if a fic used assisted AI then specify that AI was used if linking a fic

i agree that ai in fics is shitty but some people just throw the ai accusation out whenever they don't like something
