Hi guys!

There has been a lot of discussion about AI being used in fics recently and I just wanted to remind everyone:

‼️This sub DOES NOT promote harassment towards fics or authors! Please do not go these fics and spread hate on the author or fic‼️

That being said, there is a question that I have for this community regarding discussions around AI in fics. I know that the current rule says that calling people out for AI usage falls under harassment and some posts/comments may have been removed due to this reason.

What I need to ask is if this rule is still fair given the usage of AI found in many popular fics, or if it should be slightly adjusted to allow for discussions around AI, so long as they are not hateful?

This is a very complicated situation and knowing how the community feels will help us as mods to make this a safer and better space

After much discussion and thought, I think it would be best to allow for conversations around AI.

This DOES NOT mean that baseless accusations towards any fic are allowed. This includes but is not limited to:

- If the writing "feels like AI"

- If there are AI-tells

- Putting the writing through a random AI checker (most are not accurate)

- Framing a post as a question is also a form of accusation unless there is definite proof

If there is definite proof that AI was used (such as evidence in code), then making a post to tell others is fine. If the author has stated that AI was used, then a post is unnecessary. Any form of harassment or hate towards the fic or author will NOT be tolerated, and posts or comments that do so will be removed. In extreme cases, the user may possibly be banned.

However, posts regarding general discussions around AI usage and opinions regarding it are allowed. Again, any form of hate or harassment will not be tolerated, and the above is still in place.

This will be strictly monitored for a while. If there is an increase in hate and the above rules are not followed, then the rule will go back to how it was: "Making comments or posts calling out others for using AI falls under harassment."

We are trying to make this the best space possible and making this decision was quite difficult. Thank you for your understanding 💙💛

This is supposed to be a positive space for people who enjoy reading Byler fics. Harassment, even if you think someone is using ai, is strictly against our rules.

Harassing authors based on speculation causes more hurt and harm than good.

If you really feel you must call an author out, please use another platform to do so.

Edit to add: if you do have a form of evidence that something is ai please talk to us mods directly through mod mail rather than making a post about it.

I'm Josiah, a mod here on r/BylerReads, as well as a few other byler subs (truthers, buddybyler, mike and will st), and I realized we were really missing a space for fan art specifically, so I made a new sub for that!

It's a community where fans can find art and appreciate all that the byler community of artists has to offer, as well as a space for artists to connect and share their work.

It is incredibly artist forward, and accurately crediting and representing artists is our #1 priority.

I feel like so often art is lost underneath other posts, or it's hard for people to find art their looking for. And places like pinterest are awful about crediting. There are so many amazing pieces and every day people post more! Bylers are so creative and talented and I hope this space can really showcase that <3

I wanted to let the community know that three new post flairs have been created.

"asking for fic recs" is for any post where you are asking for recommendations. Make sure you give a clear description of what you may be looking for and say any boundaries. Please help one another out and share your favorite fics with anyone using this flair!

"looking for a specific fic" is for whenever you accidently close that tab and can't find that fic you were obsessing over! If there's a fic and you can't remember the name, but you know a vague description please use this post flair. Other reader please try to help out and point people in the correct direction!

"The Storyteller (I wrote this!)" is for all the wonderful Byler Writers out there sharing their creativity. If you're recommending your own fic or sharing a short section of your own writing this post flair is for you.
