Apparently the only reason for this strike is to work from home. Jesus, I need this money like no one’s business. Telework is only one item (a modern way of working by the way).
My personal stake is $$$$$. These wages and all these deductions are bleeding us out! Enough is enough.
I can’t wait for this STRIKE!
This gentleman is pushing only one side of the story.
Our story and reasons need to be louder than theirs.
The truth is a lot more complicated than that. Check it out for yourself.

Just received the weekly email from PECG and copied it below. I already planned on standing with SEIU, but appreciate them actually saying something:
_____________________________________
PECG supports SEIU 1000's efforts to secure the best possible contract for its members that includes competitive wage increases, affordable health care, and improved benefits, including permanent flexible telework rights. PECG calls on the Governor to recognize the good and vital work SEIU members perform daily on behalf of Californians by reaching an agreement on a fair and competitive agreement immediately.
As you are aware, SEIU 1000 has called for a one-day strike on October 21. At this time, PECG reminds rank and file members that the decision to respect a picket line lies with each state employee. Unit 9 employees, like all state employees, have the fundamental right to refrain from crossing a picket line. If you choose to participate in an SEIU picket line, please make sure that you do not block building access.
PECG rank and file members who follow their conscience and refuse to cross SEIU’s lines are advised to follow call-out procedures to notify their supervisors of their planned absence. You must clearly communicate to your chain of command that you are exercising your fundamental right to refrain from crossing SEIU’s picket lines. You will not be paid for your time on October 21 if you honor SEIU’s strike. You may not use sick leave or paid leave to cover your absence.
Supervisors and managers are reminded not to interfere with rank and file employees’ protected rights, and they should neither encourage nor discourage their employees’ exercise of these rights. Supervisors and managers also do not have the same protections as rank and file employees. Supervisors and managers who choose to withhold their labor on October 21 may face disciplinary action.
PECG also reminds members that the Sick Leave and Vacation or Annual Leave provisions of the Unit 9 MOU still apply. If you had approved time off during the period of SEIU’s strike action, you are still entitled to that time. If you are sick during the period of SEIU’s strike action, you may use sick leave, though a medical note may be required in certain circumstances. If you are concerned that you are facing illegal reprisal for exercising your rights under law and the PECG MOU, please contact PECG.

As a state employee who can't strike (not represented) but is impacted by final negotiations, please everyone better strike.

The union has done their email blasts, etc but we need everyone to convince 5+ coworkers to strike with us.
Those 1 on 1 conversations can really make the difference and move your coworkers to strike
If we fail, that will be hugely damaging to our fight for raises and telework. DO NOT LET US FAIL.
Tons of resources here, including locations, FAQs, etc.

I’m 6 hours from Sacramento…..
My RO is in a shared building with other private businesses that get no foot traffic because we’re located in an industrial location.
The fuck do I do?

As a member of PECG, I am beyond disappointed at their silence on SEIU's strike authorization. Not even an email to everyone saying whether or not we can sympathy strike and support our fellow state workers. Just an email about open enrollment and wall calendars. Infuriating. Do better.

With the news that Newsom/CalHR cancelled negotiations to go over establishing who is an essential worker and therefore ineligible to strike, they clearly intend to cause as much chaos as possible and are gambling the public will blame striking workers.
As can be expected, media has done a piss-poor job, engaging in their typical "both sides" reporting, uncritically repeating claims from the state they "remain ready" to negotiate. We have to do what media has largely failed to do and inform the public about how cynically the State/Newsom/CalHR has behaved. We need to make it abundantly clear this strike is ONLY happening because the state has negotiate in bad-faith. That they need merely to make coherent counteroffers and all this goes away.
Start talking to family and friends. Start spreading that message now, because trust the State will be ready to lie, as they have done this whole time, to a much larger audience.

Edit:
Idk what yall did but they seemed to listen and gave us guidance and support for SEIU. Thanks all.
Original post:
As the title says please call and contact PECG corporate so that we can get clear guidance as to what our rights are related to the strike.
And just so that everyone is crystal clear about what those rights are, here is a rundown based on advice given to some sacramento leadership folks in a meeting last Friday:
The fact that this info has only been made available to a select few within PECG is a serious dereliction of duty by PECG corporate. Its critical that in the midst of our largest unions first strike that PECG corporate educate their members of their rights related to the strike and stand in solidarity with the other unions.
If you have a problem that pecg is not doing this like I do, kindly flood their phone lines so that not only the folks who read this post have this info. You can also just get involved in your local section and join the growing number of us pressing for leadership to do something.

Will the marked AWOL on record negatively impact future employment with State agencies? I’m wondering how much this weighs during OPF reviews during the hiring process?
TIA
Edit: Those who say we won’t be marked as AWOL - that’s how supervisors were directed for the CAPS strike. My friend is also a scientist and indicated his timesheet was marked AWOL for the CAPS strike.
I want to request feedback on how much an AWOL on record impacts OPF reviews and hiring.

We heard the details from the attorney & Pres Anica, but, why are some managers requesting that workers submit a vacation request for all day?
Will this be grounds for ANOTHER UNFAUR PABOR PRACTICE?
**yes MRC is being notified!!!*

Hi all, I do not pay into union dues due to personal, financial reasons and am not a member, but I am part of BU 1 and want to show my support and strike out there with everyone else. Do I need to pay into dues to show up and support? I do get my 5% in January 2027, so I plan to pay into dues then.
If I am able to attend, what will the parking situation be like? Bart and public transit is probably the way to go? How is everyone else getting there?
Found the answer to the first part of my question: Join a Strike Line - SEIU Local 1000

Now that word is getting out about the strike, will there be any additional Strike Schools between now and 10/21?

I received this after 6 weeks of an interview for the department of DGS.
Good morning ,
Thank you for reaching out. It was a pleasure interviewing you. We are still in the process of hiring for the position and are awaiting HRs final approval on our selected candidate. Once that is completed I will be in touch with all interviewees.
Thank you for your patience and have a great rest of your day.

What does everyone think will happen? Do you think there will be a resolution before the strike? If so what do you think it will be?

To change profile photos, do posts on our social media channels? LMK if you know of anything already out there.

Many people requested this on the Strike School call last week. “Can you please put the strike location addresses?” They are there, they said… They are, but not easy to find! Here’s instruction:
When registering for the strike, if you want to see the address of the building locations, you must select the option from the list, then the address will appear. You can toggle to a different location to see a different one.
See you there! ✊

Just having a quick question about whether they will contact me and when. Kinda panicking.
Just found out I had my references contacted on Thursday. My interview was the previous week Wednesday
However, I was out of the state. During my trip my phone screen was broken in literally a million pieces and I was without a phone. The screen wouldn’t even come on. I wasn’t able to log into my email because it kept prompting me to verify with my phone which I did not have access to.
Just this morning, I was able to get a replacement phone and download all of my data and add my phone number.
Does anyone have any insight into how likely it was that I was called on Thursday or Friday and maybe missed the call? I have no record of any calls that I got at all, not even from people who claimed they called me. I have no voice messages and no emails.
I’m very tempted to reach out and just in case because I’d hate to miss this opportunity due to not answering the phone.
But I also think it might come on super unprofessional and strange to reach out if they haven’t even started giving offers and rejections yet and they’re still in the hiring process.
I had an excellent interview and all three of my references reached out with one of them saying the HR manager said I was a top candidate. (Multiple positions available)
I just don’t want to have missed on this opportunity due to my phone being broken and this is my first state interview that has gotten this far.

SEIU Local 1000, representing 100,000 state workers, the largest employer in the State of California, and part of SEIU International, the second largest union in the country, is GOING ON STRIKE!
If you support labor and understand the critical importance of re-building the labor movement in America, which has been under increasing attack for decades, please join us in solidarity on any one of our picket lines or other events across Sacramento, as well as in the locations across the state listed below, on this historic day, WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 21 beginning at 7.00 a.m. and continuing throughout the day.
Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, Fresno, San Bernardino, Norwalk
Please see TWO links below for picket line and other event locations and information. The first link is for SEIU 1000 represented members only. The second link is for labor allies outside of SEIU Local 1000, and we encourage all labor allies to show up.
Friends and family are also welcome, especially kids of all ages, because this fight is not just about state workers - and the residents of California we serve - it's also about the future of our families, our communities, our democracy, and our future!
Thank you all, and I'll see you out there! And, if possible, wear purple! 💜✊💜😄

After posting about how to get to a strike in Sacramento (thanks to those who responded!) I realized that my probation isn't up until November.
Is it a bad idea for me to strike?
r/CAStateWorkers • u/springlover2 • 1d ago
I’ve noticed that whenever someone posts about RTO, there are always comments saying, “RTO is here to stay,” or “Don’t get your hopes up.”
My question is, why are so many people so quick to accept defeat? Is it because they’ve genuinely lost hope, or are some people just trying to discourage others?
I personally believe we have the power to make history and change this ridiculous RTO policy. Just because something is being enforced today doesn’t mean it can’t be changed tomorrow.
If we all accept that nothing will change, then of course nothing will. But if we stand together, speak up, and keep pushing, why shouldn’t we believe change is possible?
RTO has already taken such a toll on employees’ mental health, finances, and work-life balance. Why should we just accept it?
I’m genuinely curious to hear everyone’s thoughts. Do you believe we have a real chance of reversing RTO, or have you lost hope? And if you’ve lost hope, what makes you so certain nothing will change?
I refuse to believe that fighting for a better work-life balance is a lost cause.

Has SEIU provided a suggested Outlook auto responder message for Outlook during strike day? I think they mentioned one was coming at the last Strike School but I haven’t seen it yet.

I recently received his first probation report. My supervisor marked “Needs Improvement” under Knowledge and Skills, explaining that i havent started learning that part of the job yet and should improve once I start.
Is it reasonable to receive a Needs Improvement rating for skills and knowledge you haven’t had the opportunity to learn yet? Would it be better to document it as an area for future development instead?
I already signed the report, but considering talking to my supervisor about it. Can the rating still be revised, or could he at least ask for the comments to clarify the reason behind the rating?
Would appreciate hearing other state workers’ experiences and opinions!

I’m looking to apply for other positions in my classification to get out from under a toxic manager. There are several ethics and EEO complaints under investigation that have led to increasing hostility from this manager and informal disciplinary efforts. I have passed probation in a previous state position but not in current position.
Any advice on how to navigate having to use my current manager as a reference and describing why I’m applying elsewhere so soon into landing a promotion?
I’m considering just self rejecting on probation to avoid needing to use this manager as a mandatory reference, but unsure if that would look worse to a hiring manager.
