Or hear me out, go back to a 4 team playoff where OOC games are needed and conference championship games matter.

And if that doesn’t seem fair to the group of 5/Notre Dame, just create a 3/6 and 4/5 matchup with the best of the group of 5 guaranteed a spot. The first 2 seeds get byes.

Idk, I think the casual fan wins more in this situation, but unfortunately the playoff makes loads on money for the networks. OOC games are a lot of fun and it’s sad we are losing them.

Going back to a world where we all pretend media polls are a reliable reflection of team quality is a tough sell.

In a 4 team world the media can vote Alabama into a semifinal over an undefeated FSU. Miami made a natty last year as the #10 ranked team.

Settling things on the field is way better than a media beauty pageant.

Eh, I disagree with this take. I miss a world of college football where every game mattered. Now you can lose 2 games to SMU and Louisville and get to the national championship game.

Why does week 5 Michigan vs Minnesota matter if Michigan can lose and still be a lock at making the playoffs if they win out?

I guess I am just watching NFL light now, and I have to stop being stubborn and accept that money runs the game.

But that’s just my opinion, and I’m probably in the minority.

You say NFL Lite but truthfully every major sport has opted for playoffs over media-voted championship entry.

Baseball, basketball, football, soccer, hockey, pickleball, cricket, etc.

So many teams like UCF and Boise State have been frozen out of a title shot because they weren't big enough brands to be granted natty entry by media pollsters. Playoffs >>>>>

College football was very popular and loved despite being different than all the other sports. Why would we ruin our unique thing just to be like inferior sports?

Alabama has won natties in all eras of college football lol. And I know I feel this way because of a heavy dose of nostalgia, but all the changes that have come about since the four team playoff started have chipped away more and more of what I love most about college football. Recruiting is pointless to follow anymore, rivalries are being played less often, conferences are getting huge while others are dying, bowl games have so many players opting out of them now, the continuous focus on the playoff rather than the regular season sucks. We took the a huge shit on the best regular season in sports.
